Nice, Useful Read
A nice addition to anyone's geology library. Alt and Hyndman cover every corner of Oregon, and explain the major players in the shape of the landscape clearly and succinctly, as well as local aspects of geology. There's the added bonus of being able to jump in the car and find what they've written about as they provide regional maps, indicating formations, special interest items and more.

I Will Never Look at Plants the Same Way Again!
Although not as sharp as his first outing in the immensely popular "Goosebumps" series, "Stay Out of the Basement" is still quite the page-turner. R.L. Stine has the ability to grab his readers' attentions almost immediately, and that is one reason why his books are so adored by millions of kids everywhere.

This was one of the many "Goosebumps" books I got for Christmas in sixth or seventh grade. I had changed from "I'll never read those stupid books" to "I want them all!" I hadn't had most books for more than a couple of hours before they were already read. That's how hooked I was.

"Stay Out of the Basement" starts off with Margaret and Casey playing Frisbee. Their father, Dr. Brewer, is a scientist who always has to wear a baseball cap on his head; he does this because, as we later find out, one of his experiments go awry and the side-effects include having leaves growing out of his head instead of hair.

Things are going fine for Margaret and Casey until they start noticing things. Things like their father's insistent warnings to never go down into the basement; things like millions of bugs squirming around in his bed; things like their father scarfing down plant food and trying to make them eat it, too! As if having leaves sprouting up from under his cap wasn't weird enough!!

The climax works well in this book. It all comes down to the classic "Who do you trust?" saga. Towards the end, we discover that there are two Dr. Brewers; one is a real person, and one is a human-sized plant-like clone. Margaret has to decide who is lying and who is telling the truth when each Dr. Brewer claims to be her and Casey's father. I remember back when I first read it and not knowing who it was going to be. R.L. Stine had done such a wonderful job in writing the book that I didn't know who to trust, either.

In case you're a viewer who's never read the book, I won't spoil the ending for you. It's classic R.L. Stine, as everyone who has read his series will identify with. This is one "Goosebumps" book that will give you what it says.

good
'Stay Out of the Basement' was a good book to read. The kids are curious when their dad starts eating plant food and staying down in the basement all the time. The daughter is especially nervous when she sees her dad with green blood coming out of his hand! Read the book to find out the details.

ooooooohhhhhhh
In Stay Out Of The Basement, a girl's scientific father has been acting very strangely lately. She thinks that he might be half man and half plant. He has been working on an experiment for a very long time. His daughter wants to know what he is up to,so she goes into the basement to the lab and discovers that her Father's clone, who is made of plants, trapped her real dad in the closet. She couldn't tell which was which. Will she destroy her own father? Read the book and find out.

Nobody's Bike Book
This book is not so hot. The cartoonish illustrations do not help one bit. If you really want to fix your bike get How To Rock And Roll by Sam Tracy.

Thanks Tom!
This book helped a kid for whom things mechanical were mysterious and a bit scary. That kid took a department store bike that always rode "kind of funny" and made it a faithful steed. 27 years and many thousands of cycling miles later I just want to say THANKS!

My Favorite Bike Book!
I bought my first copy of this book back in 1974 at the age of 14, and proceeded to tear every part of my bike apart, and more importantly, successfully put it back together! I recently began riding again, and the first thing I did was to buy the newest edition, and proceeded to tear apart my bike again! This book makes it fun to work on bikes! In fact, once I had finished completely overhauling it, I was a little bummed because all that is left to do now is to ride it...

The bood is well written, funny, informative, and covers almost everything. I highly recommend it to anyone who owns a bike and is interested in learning to maintain it!

Permanent Londoners: An Illustrated Guide to the Cemeteries of London
Published in Paperback by Robson Books Ltd (1991)
Authors: Judi Cuthbertson and Tom Randall
Amazon base price: $
Used price: $14.00

Terrific guide to London cemeteries
Sixteen cemetery sites are listed and many graves discussed in this fine addition to the series by Culbertson and Randall: Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, Bunhill Fields, St. Paul's, Brompton, Kensal Green, Highgate and St. Michael's, St. John-at-Hampstead, Hampstead, Golders Green and St. Marylebone, Putney Vale and St. Mary Magdalene, St. Nicholas in Chiswick, and Windsor Castle and Frogmore.

I've used this book as well as Permanent Italians and Permanent Parisians, and have not had the bad experience others have mentioned; in my experience the directions are fine, and I've visited maybe half of all the places they've written about in these three books.

Names are highlighted so they're easy to find, and there are plenty of maps and photographs.

This is a great book if you are interested in adding these sites to your travels in London.

Nice work-
I prefered this to Permanent Italians, perhaps because I knew who more of the people were? Nice biographical sketchs of many of the people mentioned and very nice directions on taking the underground to each cemetery.... well I have never been to London, I assume they are good directions :o) It has a small map of each cemetery with marks designating where the more notworthy monuments are located. It's a great boo if you love cemetries and possible valued beyond money if you are visiting London and love cemeteries. I believe it is part of a set with Permanent Italians and Californians.

Excellent companion for a visit to London cemeteries
I used the book on visits to some of the most interesting London cemeteries. It has good maps and many details on the various famous residents. I found the historical data quite accurate and some of the stories very amusing. Highly recommended!
