Warning - Not for reading with kids!
I mistakenly picked up this book and began reading it to my 7 year old son, thinking it would be a fun read together, which might inspire him to explore other books of this topic matter. In the first page I coughed my way through the word "G--D---" and found myself coughing my way through reading the entire first chapter. I found it too much effort to "bleep" my way through the tricky French-Canadian-Cowboy dialect of the trash-mouthed main character and eventually put the book down. I can't say I enjoy reading those words, myself, even.

So, if you are a parent and think that these older fiction books are more "safe" than the onese being produced today... think again.

YOU WON'T REGRET BUYING THIS BOOK! IT'S A MUST!
This book is just wonderful. . . I couldn't put it down. Cushman is truely an artist. He shows the funny side to a very real issue. His characters are deeply developed and so loveable. The reading is light enough to enjoy as a book for pleasure but would be very useful to a student of Native American culture and the Native American's assimilation into "civilized" society. You'll feel like you're there with the Champlains. You'll want to reach out to them. . .too bad you can't literally climb into a book.

Hilarious satire of economic boosterism on the plains.
My favorite book by Dan Cushman, author of such great stuff as Stay Away, Joe (an all-time Montana classic transformed into a forgettable Elvis film), Plenty of Room and Air, The Long Riders. Almost Swiftian in its depiction of small-town boosterism, economic development schemes, the role of the press and Big Business, and other themes which ring as true today as they do in the era (the ag Depession of the 1920s) as they do today. If you've read and loved Cushman before, you'll be pleased. Although not as widely known as Stay Away, Joe, this is Cushman as his best. And it doesn't get much better than that.

Good Laugh
I must admit, Cheryl is certainly funny. There is plenty to learn and think about while reading her book. I am almost for sure it will be a huge hit once the word gets out and am frankly surprised by it not going huge sooner. Her wit is quick and slightly off at times but makes me feel good and hopeful for the future. There are so many work at home books on the market today that it is hard to find one moms - or even females - can connect to. This one is a winner. It does not have all of the answers but it sure has impacted my way of thinking. The one thing that is often overlooked in these types of books is exactly what is one supposed to do with children - really practical doable suggestions that work for more than an hour at a time. I find myself feeling gulity and drained when trying to juggle home duties and "home work" with kids underfoot. The Pros and Cons in the book are even light hearted but as she says, a con is "Your children may see the bad side of business too - the stress and the headaches. When you work at home, you can't use your commute time to decompress." This is so true and then I find the questions overwhelming as whether or not I am trying to do the best thing for my family - and my own sanity. Every summer I try to work at home and end up giving up. Maybe there is a better time than others to try? It's worth the money just for the humor. My other recommendation for a little more serious book and specific information for success - but certainly not dull - is: Why Aren't You Your Own Boss," by Paul and Sarah Edwards.

Wahmmy!
Cheryl Demas has written a great book for work at home parents. As a work at home mom myself and the webmaster of a site for work at home parents, I found the book an interesting and light-hearted take on the ups and downs of working at home. If you're a WAH parent or you're thinking of becoming one, this is a must-read. Veteran WAHPs will see the truth on nearly every page, and potential WAHPs will have realistic expectations of the WAH lifestyle.

A Must Get!!
This book, "It's a Jungle Out There and a Zoo in Here" by Cheryl Demas is a must have for anyone making the decision to work at home. There are quite a few books out there that tell you how to work at home but I found most of them dry and quite dull. Cheryl finds a way to give tons of information, humor, and ispiration all rolled into one.
Cheryl takes the questions and worries we all have and gives advice and suggestions on how to conquer them in an intelligent manner. Her stories are great and really help to put things in perspective. I would highly reccommend this book to anyone who is working at home or thinking about doing so.

a bit out of date
when I bought this book (some years back) I would have given it 5 stars, but all deco info is now very out of date, check dive computers reviewed on index page! otherwise a very god book that is an easy read. For more up to date info check Technical Diving in Depth (Bruce R Weinke) this has every thing you might want to know but is very technical and not (I find) an easy read.

A good Intro to deeper sport diving
This book was a useful introduction, actually a great deal more detail than in an introduction, to deeper rec. diving. Very useful technical information.

Excellent transition from recreation to technical diving
The book is perfect for those who are beginning to consider how to extend the limits of 'recreational' diving'. Basic Open Water, Advanced, Master Diver, etc, courses progressively introduce you to some of the more technical aspects of diving, but not in great detail. This book covers much of the theory behind accepted recreational practices, how to extend the recreational limits, and the risks associated with pushing the limits. I found it to be a perfect follow-up to what I was taught in my certification courses, without watering down the material as much as is found in those courses.
