Messy Bessey's Holidays
Short stories with good color illustrations. Pictures are fair - easy to read, with good informantion in the 5 to 8 year old age group. Short 1 character settings around Christmas, Kwanzaa, Chanukah, and New Years. I would recommend this one to K through the 2nd grade levels

A ride to remember
This book ' Riding the Flume' tells and exciting and suspenseful tale of a young girl finding herself. The books descriptive writing of the social, and economic struggles of this difficult time made the era come alive for me. Even if I hadn't ever seen the giant sequoias, the pictures painted in this book, would let me know how huge they are, how much they are a part of our history, and how - believing in something strongly enough, can give one the strength to accomplish it. I throughly enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone wanting to take an exciting ride.

Kitty doesn't need to roam
I read this book before adopting our pet from the humane society. It helped me understand that an indoor cat can have a wonderful, happy life, without running around the neighborhood, getting into danger and hunting songbirds.

In fact, they don't need as much space as I thought. our indoor cat is wonderful and well-adjusted.

Good reference, I enjoyed it.

Highly enjoyable as well as instructive
To call this is a guide makes it sound rather stodgy, don't you think? And this book definitely isn't stodgy. Ms. Curtis speaks with affection and humor. Sure, there is lots of advice here, and much is based on personal experiences detailed by the author.

A word here, and that is that you will find books that give contradicting advice. Veterinarians themselves aren't in total agreement. And Ms. Curtis speaks as an experienced cat owner influenced by veterinarians.

The whole spectrum of cat ownership is covered, from how to choose a cat to each aspect of indoor life for the cat. But most importantly, you get a sense of the author's personality and of her very genuine love and concern for animals.

I quite highly recommend this book.

This is an excellent book for the first-time cat owner
I read an old copy of Ms. Curtis' original edition of The indoor cat before I adopted my own cats. I had never even thought about whether they should go outside or not...I eventually adopted from a rescue group that stipulated in their contract that I not let my cats out without supervision, and preferably not at all. I was so glad I had read this book, because Ms. Curtis makes it so clear that indoor is best that my philosophies matched the rescue group's, and everyone was happy.

Most of all me, though, because I have two happy healthy, indoor kitties. Thank you, Patricia Curtis.

grinch
I mainly bought this anthology for Sharon and Tom Curtis' story but I was really disappointed. The characters were fine and the story was interesting but I just couldn't for the life of me figure out why Henry Lamb would fall head over heels for this girl. One minute they meet, the next he's enchanted. What? Why? She's full of joy? When? I tried to read the other stories but none of them caught my attention --- couldn't get all the way through a single one.

Sorry to be so harsh --- starting to feel like the guy in green. Guess when it comes to this book, my heart was just two sizes too small.

Very Enjoyable
Skip the first story by Jane Feather which is awful. If you don't you may never read the rest of the wonderful stories.

Oh so good...
I agree that Feather's story was one of the weakest. However, Sharon and Tom Curtis' THe Natural Child more than makes up for it. It's funny, chronologically accurate in ambience and setting, but so sweet and romantic! The other stories are solid as well. Good reading.

Only for The Most Desperate of "Horror" Fans
Unfortunately, the folks who put this "documentary" together seem to think horror is confined to cheezy Grade Z movies full of excessive "knife across the eyeball" style gore. A somewhat comatose Christopher Lee seems ashamed to be hosting this mess.

Great documentary (saw the DVD version)!
I saw the DVD version of this video and, being a horror film buff, found it very entertaining. The problem with documentaries like these, however, is that they do tend to get sort of dated in just a few years (e.g. although fairly recent films such as Bram Stoker's Dracula, Jurrasic Park and Wolf were discussed, more recent films such as the Mummy remake were not) especially in this genre wherein advances in make-up and special effects play an important role. Still, I would recommend this series to any serious horror film afficionado. Unlike many documentaries which seem to be made up of 90% interviews and 10% (movie) scenes, this is composed primarily of scenes with Christopher Lee's voice-over, interspersed with a few interviews. Notable highlights include hilarious outtakes from the film Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein as well as footage from obscure movies such as the 1960 version of Lost World. There are also interviews with John Carpenter, Peter Cushing and Claude Rains. I found this very enjoyable, although I'm giving just 4 stars for the DVD version since the sound quality was not very good for this medium (for VHS I'd probably let it off with 5 stars).

Bad Beginning but the middle and the end are really good.
Don't turn it off! But first you need to watch at least five of these movies to enjoy it. With Christopher Lee being your host this makes the movie very fun. It talks about little trivia and cool things to know.

2.Frankenstein, 1931
3.Dracula, 1931
4.The Mummy, 1959
5.Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein
