A superb read, (12/6/02)
Up to this point, I hadn't even heard of Marianne Curley, or any of her books. But recently my History teacher bought in 'The Named' for reading groups, and I immediately found myself hooked. Time travel into the past to save the future, secret societies and magic powers, who wouldn't be? This is an excellent read, with plenty of good suspense, humor, and reality inside the human mind. The characters came to life, and now I can't wait to find the next book in the trilogy!

Great!
I really enjoied reading this book. Ms. Curley did an excellant job on describing the characters, you really start to like them and understand them. I loved that the book was written in two different characters' point of view. This book made me think, like, "What is our purpose?" and "Gosh, I wanna be there!" I heard that this book is in a trilogy that will be coming out soon, so of course I'm excited. I hope you read this book!

Great story, great book, great author, basically just great!
I had read Old Magic first (which, in my opinion, is a must read), and I waited impatiently for Marianne Curley's next book. When I saw it at a book store, I bought it, despite its outrageous price. It was absolutely wonderful! I think that the only downside to this book is that it is part of a trilogy. Now, I have nothing against trilogies, as long as all three books are already written, published, and out in paperback. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Once again, I am in the same position as I was originally. However, I am happy to suffer for a while to have the pleasure of reading another one of Marianne Curley's books. Now, to those who have read Old Magic and are about to read this book, I have one piece of advice, "Keep an open mind about the story. Don't make up your mind about how the story is going to end. You might be disapointed." Now, I have seen some publicity for a book called The Dark. Is this the sequel? If it is, I'm not sure that I can wait until Semptember. Oh well, I guess that I'll just have to.

a good book
I have read this book about 3 times in the past 2 years. It is one of my favorites because every time it gets better and better.
This sci-fi novel has all the basic elements to keep its reader entertained.
The story begins in a modern-day Austrailian small town called Ashpeak. When Kate Warren, a witch in training, meets Jarrod Thorton, the new geek in town, she is automatically drawn to him a mysterious aura he carries about himself. Kate is convinced that Jarrod has some powerful curse bestowed on him, and Jarrod only goes along with her fanatics because he is fascinated by her beauty.
When things start going downhill in Jarrod's life; he rethinks Kate's theory and travels back to midieval times to defeat the sorcerer who granted the havoc-reeking curse on his family; and along the road somewhere they fall in love. And I would most definately recommend this book to anyone who knows how to enjoy a good book.

A REAL FIND!
Marianne Curley does a perfect portrayal of teen life with a twist. I love the story because the adventure is extremely creative and the on and off friendship/romance is entertaining yet not love struck. The characters Jarrod and Kate are great because their actions and emotions are just like real life (minus the magic). The book seems to get surprisingly more entertaining near the end because the constant arguing and disbelief stops coming from the character Jarrod. Though I will say this book is not the best book ever, it is a great reader for people who like fantasy, minor romantics, and a story that will take turns and twists you never see coming. While being an entertaining novel it also deals with the ever appearing problem of peer pressure and "fitting in" without getting over obsessive and annoying. Overall, this book is an adventure, a partial romance, and a great way to spend your extra time during the summer.
THIS BOOK IS A GREAT BOOK TO READ OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND
NEVER GET TIRED OF, IT REALLY IS THAT GOOD OF A BOOK!

I love it!
Although I'm not into the witch craft thing, I have to admit, I could not put this book down. The characters are very descriptive and vivid and you can fall in love with them so easy. The book does have some erros in it (misplaced periods and words, ect...) but overall, it's beuatifully written. Most books today aren't written in this style either, at least not that I have read lately. You are in their head, almost like a journal or something. But overall, if you enjoy the time-romance novels, you have to read this one!!
The story begins when Kate first sees Jarrod, she senses something about him; something supernatural. Her theory is later proven but the hard part is getting Jarrod to believe it. Kate goes through a lot to make him believe in himself but it isn't until they travel back in time to the 1200's to change Jarrod's future that he beileves it himself.
How does it end? Like I'm going to tell you! All I have left to say, is that this book is amazingly written and will keep you wrapt all 317 pages!
