Shinglebolt - A Delightful Reading Pleasure
An Intriguing Tale
This book is a wonderful glimpse of the life of a boy growing up in a small community in Michigan.
One would think that life would not be that exciting for the average boy - this could not be farther from the truth. From the sharp sting of the ignorance of white man towards the Native Americans, to the appearance of a faithful companion; this book weaves a thick web of interesting history, heritage, and even mystery.
The dangers of Snowtown piers kept me on the edge of my seat, while the yarns of humorous adventure kept me laughing, even as the heart-wrenching look back on life kept me in awe.
This is an excellent tale for just about anyone - few stories manage to grasp my attention as well as this. While it has a special meaning to the Michigander, Shinglebolt is an excellent read for anyone.

If you like straight Aesop's fables, this is ok
This is a CD of straight Aesop's fables followed by the narrator trying to turn the moral into common language. Aesop's read better than they listen - at least for me. My kids really didn't like it because the stories are short (only about 1 minute) and the "real life applications" didn't make sense to them or me. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it unless you just want somebody to read the stories to you.

It should be part of assigned reading in publich schools because of the reading pleasure it provides combined with its educational values it teaches. Being a teacher myself, I would like other teachers to take part in this experience and disseminate it to their students. All I can say is "Enjoy..."
