Pollyanna touches every heart.
Grab your pillow, your favorite stuffed animal and head into the family wagon! Wait! Come Back! Okay, the days of the Drive-in movie are all but gone. But, the folks from Disney have created a terrific alternate experience with their "Vault Disney" DVD series. Each film fully restored, commentaries and documentaries galore and a cartoon short (Mickey Mouse in THE NIFTY NINETIES) preceding it making the evening a family event just like the Drive-in... without the fumes or the fighting with your brother.

After losing her parents, Pollyanna is sent to stay with her wealthy controlling Aunt Polly. But Pollyanna is innocently immune from her Aunt's control. Gradually, the browbeaten town starts to brighten up in conjunction with Pollyanna's optimistic viewpoint. Eventually, it all comes to a head when Pollyanna is given tragic cause to sour her own attitude. Try as you will to avoid it, tears will fall.

Pollyanna elevated Hayley Mills to Super Stardom and an optimistic reputation that she still can't shake. And her effervescence makes the hoopla worth it. Pollyanna's optimism comes out of Mills mouth as if it were her own. Several wonderful performers including Jane Wyman, Agnes Moorhead, Karl Malden and Disney favorite Kevin Corcoran surround her. Director/Screenwriter David Swift does a great job bringing the favorite novel to the screen. So much so that he was asked to helm Hayley next film THE PARENT TRAP.

The Disney Organization continues to provide its fan base with many smiles with its DVD output. The vault collection also includes other family favorites THE PARENT TRAP, SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON and OLD YELLER. They have also started their archive collection, which includes THE SILLY SYMPHONIES, the entire DAVY CROCKETT series, important episodes of DISNEYLAND, and color MICKEY MOUSE cartoons. Let's keep 'em coming!

What a darling movie!
This movie is so good! I thought no movie could be better than those of Shirley Temple, and I was always hoping a film similar to Heidi would be released. Luckily I found "Pollyanna" on DVD. Wow! I sort of pushed my Shirley Temple gift set near the back and brought forth my new Vault Disney DVD collection. Pollyanna is very similar to Heidi and I recommend it to fans of that movie. This movie is about a little orphan girl-Pollyanna-who is sent to live with her strict aunt. Everyone in the town is always grumpy, but Pollyanna teaches them her "glad game" and makes everyone lovable and cheerful. Only at the end of the movie when a terrible tragedy takes place, does everyone realise how much they appreciate Pollyanna. A wonderful family film that isn't only for children, but for adults too. The DVD comes with lots of documentaries, interviews, pictures, and some music too! Even a commentary! Trust me, fans of Shirley Temple may also appreciate Hayley Mills too!

A charming, wonderfully performed, BELIVEABLE film
A vast improvement on the cutesy, blatantly unrealistic and cliched book on which it's based, the Disney film version of Pollyanna has a very charming feel to it. The talented cast are all great, and really make you believe in them and forget they're all stereotypes, unlike in the book, which was the total opposite. Jane Wyman is quite good as Aunt Polly, and so are Agnes Moorhead, Adolphe Menjou, and espicially Karl Malden. Hayley Mills more than holds her own, delivering a very calm, subtle, BELIEVABLE performance. It's really obvious that she's made such a difference in the town because she interacts so well and effectively with everyone and does it throughout the movie, instead of chatting her mouth off about nothing and thinking that every cold act of her aunt's is an expression of love, like in the book. She stays with each person just long enough to subtly get her point across, but her presence lingers. She deserved her special Academy Award; her performance is excellent, astonishing for a 14-year-old who had only done one other film. She continued to enchant audiences throughout the '60's in other Disney films, all of which (that I've seen) are good and deserving of her talent. There, I've said enough. Get the movie; it's wonderful.

This Book Almost Defines 'Poor Quality'
First I'd like to say this book has an unbelievable number of mistakes and inconsistencies throughout it, in fact, I believe this book was based on a previous version of slackware Linux and quickly (and poorly) renamed and rewritten for the current version.

I am quite new to Linux, and was recommended slackware Linux, not for its ease of installation/use but for its security and the learning curve it creates while trying to learn the Linux system. I decided to purchase this book the same time I bought the slackware boxed set. Quite honestly, I've turned to the man pages and README files more than I've turned to this book, and when necessary to refer to the book, I've found it to be with error (eg. bad code) and rarely reliable.

If you wish to properly learn Linux, this book is the wrong way about it. I would almost recommend ANY other Linux book.. or the man pages ;)

A terrible book
This book was obviously thrown together to make a buck. It is disorganized and badly written, and contains gems like the entire listing from a 'make install'. No one edited this thing; I don't think anyone even proofread it. The publisher should be ashamed.

Slackware 7.0 is old
The new version of slack is 7.1....

The contrib cd sucks though, so dont download it....
