One word describes this book - wow! This book is a great source of information for everybody that is seriously interested in environmental microbiology. The wealth of information given in this book is divided into 98 "short stories", most of them on average 10 pages long, each written by a different scientist. Even though the book is presented in a very scientific manner, it reads surprisingly easy, although the reader should have some knowledge of microbiology and biochemistry. This is not a textbook! Those of you who are looking for a pretty picture book should look elsewhere. There are no fancy appendices or glossaries, no CD-ROM, just an index. Pictures and graphs are held to a minimum and are used for the more complex concepts only. At the end of each chapter, a bibliography invites to further exploration of the particular topic. Here are the main sections of the book: 1. Introduction to environmental microbiology, 2. General methodology, 3. Water microbiology in public health, 4. Aquatic environments, 5. Soil, Rhizosphere, and Phyllosphere, 6. Subsurface and landfills, 7. Aerobiology, 8. Biotransformation and biodegradation. In conclusion, this book has quality and substance, just as you would expect from a book published by the ASM.

As written in the early eighties, this book is one of the pioneer works seriously about video game. It talks about such topics as what is a game, why people play games, and how to design a game. The author's rich and plentiful experience in game design is undeniable, but the arguments in the book are somewhat restricted only to his own personal opinions. To a certain extent, there is no ground, as backed up from careful research, to justify these claims. Either, the author has not been able to connect his viewpoints to the works of other people. Whether other designers have similar beliefs, thus supporting his arguments? Even though similar works on game design may hardly be found at the time, relating to the experiences transferable from other disciplines is possible. Despite this, as a whole, the author does throw some light on the area, which is enough to make this book well worth reading.

Ever since I played Chris Crawford's "Balance of the Planet" I have been a fan of his. In this book he describes in detail what goes into the game design including many examples from his own experience. The biggest problems with this book are that it is some what dated, and I wish it was thicker. Richard W. Smith

The authors shows how to recognize the problem and then how to break the self-destructive pattern of shyness. If you think that you always being a shyness person, it's could be because facts done in the past like: parents' patterns, parents' shyness, humiliation and trauma, bad treatments of colleagues or represses. The authors give a lot of examples and situations that give us a chance to recognize and overcome shyness. It explains shyness-related feelings and illnesses and provides self-help techniques. It takes work to overcome shyness but the rewards are a new life for the shyness. It's a excelent book to help shy people managing shyness.

The authors know their stuff, but have no idea how to present it in a creative way.

Sadly, this text, in its 22nd edition, is the standard real estate "salesperson" study manual in the state of Florida.

It is far too long and boring. Much more could be conveyed in fewer pages if the authors either undertook an overhaul or let a creative writer edit the copy.

But hasn't this text already been through 22 editions? Yes, but changes only seem to be made to reflect changes in law and not in updating or freshening the overall presentation.

This oversized book is nearly 500 pages long! In my estimation, more could be said in half the space.

As far as the end of chapter and end of book test questions go, they are too simple. The authors review manual, sold under seperate cover, includes many more questions that more closely reflect the standard of difficulty the state uses in its actual exam.

The authors of this text know they have the monopoly on the "salesperson" text book in the state of Florida. Because of this, do they really have an incentive to make it better? No, not unless they want to challenge themselves to improve it.

If the text were better it would most certainly make the practice of real estate in Florida...better.

I am currently taking the FREC Salesperson I course and this is the book, as you know, we must use. If you are not taking the State Exam, there is no real reason to buy this book unless you just want to educate yourself. Reason being -- the book's goal, like most of it's kind, is for the student/reader to pass the state exam in the end. Hence, there are probably other books out there that convey similar information that aren't booged down with useless details that only exam takers need to know.

I was reading a few reviews about this book. The answer keys to the end of chapter and practice question at the end of the book are available through your instructor. Please note that this book alone will not allow you to take the state exam without a 63 hour Pre-lic. Course. For those who don't understand the material and want the answers to the questions in the book should ask their instructors when they take the required pre-lic. Salesperson FREC I course. As far as the text book, the text book material is excellent!

This is the only edition I could find here, but my copy has a different cover. The image in the lower right corner on mine has a light blue pattern with a few circles and bubbles. (That's what it looks like to me.) Mine is definitely the second edition.

I do agree with many of the other reviews here. In some ways, this book is very basic, and they reference other Sybex books throughout. Each chapter states what book the information came from. This is almost like a Best Of collection.

For me, the book was very helpful. I'm very expirienced with Windows. Over the years I've also used Apple DOS, ProDOS, MS-DOS, DR DOS, OS/2, and Mac OS. This book had enough information for me to understand Linux better. The writers mainly compare Linux and Windows. Most of the focus is on Red Hat and GNOME. I'm actually using SuSE with the KDE desktop. There's a chapter on installing Red Hat.

I do like the information presented on using the command line. It's basic but enough to be useful. Later chapters discuss more advanced topics like server configurations, using Samba, and setting up Apache. It also covers how things work. ...under the hood. Since I'm not a Linux veteran, I can't really comment on the advanced topics, but I did find the book easy to follow.

I basically bought this book because I was tired of scrolling through the pages of HOWTO documents, which I think have tons of useful and time-proven techniques to solve problems related to Linux. A better index could have done this book an excellent one. There is an extensive command reference at the end but finding a command is not that easy. If you basically want a desktop reference I would recommend the O'Reilly's Linux in a Nutshell which is thumbindexed thus letting you access the information you want in no time.

~ "LINUX COMPLETE" a.k.a. "The Linux Documentation Project" is simply the BEST Linux book out there -- bar NONE! Get it -- or spend megabucks on a myriad of complicated less-than-satisfactory hieroglyphic-like compilations... but don't say you weren't told. ~8-)

A much sought after text. Not designed for the mainstream audience. A Novice might be better served with a more fundamental book.

This is a very short read. Not including the preface, introduction and appendices in the back (most of which is a list of museums in various states with collections or information you can look at), the content of the book barely takes up 59 pages. And the information is very, very general. She describes the major periods of North American Indian occupation from Paleo to Archaic, Mississipian, Woodland, etc. Each description takes up about 5-8 pages and includes hand-drawn images of a few projectile points, pottery styles, drills, or axe heads associated with that time frame. Frankly, I found the information to be at the level of a freshman 100 level Archaeology research paper. It's good information for a beginner level but hardly worth paying full book price for. It could benefit from maps showing locations of known archaeological sites representative of the times discussed, sketches of dig sites that might show how burial sites were arranged, housing styles and locations and discuss one or two major archaelogical digs for each time period. As it is, I found the information too general and would suggest that someone interested check out your local library for a book that provides more information (and is free). Or continue your search on Amazon!
