A humourous look at fantasy for children.
Sam is a little boy who finds school hard and is also bullied - until Scales, an unlikely fried who just happens to be a DRAGON comes to the rescue! The book is a series of adventures about Sam, Scales and Class 4, in which Scales helps Sam and the rest of the class with their school work. The funniest character is Miss Green who can't see Scales and spends a long time in the bay outside with a headache, tidying her cupboard or marking books. It just so happens that when she does these things, Scales appears! Nevertheless, my class of 8 and 9 year olds have been spellbound, especially by the fearsome Aunt Spiny and all of the other characters (who we've all met somewhere)who make this an entertaining, enjoyable look at fantasy for children.
