The City Book is a beautiful book written and illustrated by Lucille Corcos. Published as a Golden Book in 1972 by Western Publishing Company this beautiful book details a day in the life of a major city. Though the city is never given a name it could easily be New York, Boston, Chicago or any number of other major citys. Ms Corcos details the day of a city starting in the morning with the trucks bringing goods to market, children getting ready for school, parents getting ready for work. She details the commute to the city and the cars that pour thru the city streets. She details the various jobs people work within the city, the bankers, the men and women who build buildings, the dock workers and the news paper producers...among others. She details the funky shops and the markets, the events like parades and ice skating rinks and carnivals, that you may find in a city. This book is amazing and beautiful, and the artwork that accompanys the story is just wonderful. Ms Corcos uses kind of a dreamy, pastel style that is like a combination of Surrat and Monet. Just Delicious and fantastic! When I was a kid, my mom would read me this book and I would picture New York city. A big wonderful, Magic place where anything could happen. This book hits the mark!
