Great Reference for CTP gamers
This is a great reference book to accompany the manual. Not much in strategy, but great information about the details of the game. Every CTP gamer should get one!

It's good, but no cheats
The Civ: Call to Power Strategy Guide is very informative. My favorite section of the book is where it tells you the pro's and con's of all of the government types.

Realistic work of Fiction
It took me a while to actually finish reading this book. I don't regret having to wait. This is one of the best TM books I have ever read! The characters in this book are so realistic that you can relate to them in your own life. This family had so much drama going on in their life.

The heroine and mother, Viola Price has an ongoing struggle with her asthma attacks. Through all of her ups and downs she has to be the backbone of the family, even if they don't all appreciate her.

Cecil, their father, has had it up to here with Viola's complaining and non-affection attitude with him. He discovers love on the other side of the track with a woman half his age, on welfare living in the projects, and raising three kids.

The oldest daughter Paris reminded me of Vanessa William's character in "Soul Food", just not as nagging and as stuck-up. The family sees Paris as the person to run to when ever they are in a financial bind. Paris was one of the better children of the Paris family because she did what she could to help all of her younger siblings, even if they didn't appreciate it. Paris went out of her way and pocket to help her mother receive everything that she deserved. However, Paris was lacking in her own personal life, but was unwilling to let anyone know that she was fighting her own demons.

The second child, Charlotte, thought the world was against her. She was spoiled and selfish and choice to run away from her problems rather than face them like a woman. She hung up one to many times for me on people. Her favorite word for a female is to assume that everyone in the world is related to or is a female dog. She felt she was treated unfairly because she choice not to go with her family to the West Coast but remained in the east. She needed to take a look at her own life before judging others.

The third child, Janelle had much drama in her life. She choose to look toward a man for comfort and life's answers to her tough question. She consulted with psychics rather than within herself and believing that she had the answers all along. It took a tragedy with her daughter to finally realize that she had put too much trust in a man for guidance in her life.

The last child, but certainly not with the least problems and the only boy of the family, is Lewis. He has a son that he doesn't take care of, an ex-wife that's been saved and remarried, and a drinking problem along with mass medical problems. His choice of comfort is beer, whisky, or just about any kind of alcoholic drink that he can find. He's at least 30 something doing various odd end jobs, license revoked due to DUI's, and not paying any amount of money for child support.

It takes a fatal tragedy to pull this family together. They must realize that family is the only one that will be with you when the times are good and when the times are tough. If you can't relate to someone in this book you are lying. This is a great book! Well done TM!

A REMINDER OF THE POWER OF LOVE AND RESILIENCY
Beginning with "Mama" ( 1987) and on through "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" (1996), few have plumbed the richness of contemporary African-American experience as ably as Terry McMillan. She has done it with grace, humor, style, truth, and an exacting ear for dialogue.

Those with ears to hear will listen and re-listen to this superb rendering of her latest tale, which unflinchingly deals with many of the ills that beset us - sorrow, unfaithfulness, addiction, self-deception, untruthfulness, anger. Yet, over and above all of these tribulations, Ms. McMillan shows us the astounding power of resiliency and love.

Viola, a seemingly-impossible-to-capture family matriarch and the mainspring of this story, is indelibly captured by the performances of TV actress Desiree Coleman and film and TV actor M E. Willis. Ranging from razor sharp to coy to vitriolic to forgiving, their voices bring this family drama to life.

Author McMillan joins actors Alfre Woodard and Richard Allen to read the abridged version. As vibrant as her prose, Ms. McMillan's voice adds impact to these adaptations.

A Day and A Dollar
Now THIS was a good book! I stayed up until 3:30 in the moring to finish this book. I think this is the absolute BEST book Ms. McMillan has EVER written. Mama and Disappearing were good, but by far, this is the best. It is written with such honesty, realism and humor, you can't help but to be drawn into the story. However, the angry and sad parts are just as powerful. By the end of this book, I had to keep stopping to wipe my eyes (it's a little hard to read when you're crying). Anyone with family issues, and with at least ONE sibling needs to read this book. You know these people. Either in your own immediate family, extended family or your friend's family. Whatever the case may be, you know them and they really touch you. You may even recognize shades of yourself in a character or two! I don't want to give any of the story away, but I do want to urge any- and everyone to please read it! Viola, the mother, was a card. I liked how the story began in the voice of one parent and ended in the voice of the other. Also, reading the story in the voices of all the characters, chapter by alternating chapter, was a great way to get an insight into this family's dynamics. After reading this book, I am sure it will make a lot of people look at the dynamics that exist in their own families. What the four kids went through after an event involving Viola, I could totally understand, having gone through the same thing myself. That feeling of unfinished business and not being ready, no matter how old you are, to stand on your own two feet without your mother's guidance and being forced to reevalute life in general and your life in particular. The learning that in a blink of an eye, everything that is safe and comforting can change, whether you're ready for it or not. Oh yeah! This book truly touched me. Had me nodding, smiling, laughing out loud, sniffling and sometimes downright crying. In closing, I want to say to Terry: Thank you for this extraordinary piece of work! Girl, you got it right this time. THIS is the Terry we had come to love and respect. Waiting to Exhale and Stella, while being pretty good, can't begin to compare to this. Thank you for a job, and a story, very well done!

loads of priest spells
This is a rolemaster sourcebook filled with lists and lists of priestly spells. It is one third of the _spell law_ sourcebook (3rd ed.) which is now out of print. The other two are _of essence_ covering straight mage magic and _of mentalism_ covering psionics. It also includes the various priest based rolemaster professions. It is useful for spell ideas for any system. In particular GURPS or D&D and of course Rolemaster or MERP. For D&D it works well for expanding the list of domains as the spells are categorized by theme with one spell for each level

The spells are clear in what they do and easy to translate into other systems.

Dissapointing
Hi, I am new to gaming and i have to say that this book is poor quality and was rushed. It has added nothing to my understanding of the game. It has no index to find anything. It misses so many bugs, Bradygames should get an update for it, it is so bad.

When the Manual Fails
With the skill of adequate manual writing falling, strategy guides are icreasingly important. CTP 2 owners are fortunate that two veteran and literate gamers have had a chance to dissect the game to give us insights.

Basic city building concepts are not only explained clearly but the math behind them is provided. Units and wonders are described in depth while being put in historical context. Strategies are laid out in a way that explains but not condescends. Hints and tips are useful if the player is really in a bind.

The multi-player section explains more about logging in and using cheats rather than giving strategies. Given the nature of human opponents, this weakness is unavoidable.

Some readers might say the contents can be picked up for free on the 'Net. Perhaps but it would take some time and much printing and gathering of print-outs to get this information in one place, not to mention organized. Spend the money and save time.

Best game book, great for first time R.P.G'ers
I hated it. it was a bunch of BULL$H1T

Not bad if you've never seen a good game guide.
This was the third game strategy book I got (after Master of Magic and Master of Orion II). I was seriously disappointed. In other Prima books there is a wealth of material about how the game resolves conflicts/battles, conducts it's turn, etc. Tables of data and statistics, which while sometimes dry, were often useful and insightful. In this one there was a "walk-through" (and a few tables) with little material about what was happening behind the scenes and what strategies there were to deal with it. It was almost like an Adventure or RPG guide rather than a strategy guide. Very disappointing especially given some of the other (very good) work Terry Coleman has done.

Excellent guide for the best of the General Series
Containing an excellent tutorial of the early missions, this guide takes the novice gently through to the truly tough later missions. Although maps and step-by-step walkthroughs are not provided for the later continents the book tells you what to expect. Treasure tables are *REALLY* nice and the places to find heroes are very useful as well. Excellent guide, a must-have if you love FG.
