Best Value at the LA Small Business Expo!!
I went to the Expo to check out business opportunities, and found this book. It seems like a good bargain considering that the author gives 2 hours of free consultation with every purchase. I really bought it just for that, but once I got it home and looked it over, I saw the book itself is worth its weight in gold. It's easy to read and really simplifies so many things...especially all those accounting things!

Thanks, Mr. Calkins!

An informative and intrinsically interesting collection
Compiled and edited by art historian and expert James Timothy Voorhies, My Dear Stieglitz: Letters Of Marsden Hartley And Alfred Stieglitz 1912-1915 is an informative and intrinsically interesting collection of previously unpublished correspondence between America artist Marsden Hartley and avant-garde impresario, editor, and photographer Alfred Stieglitz chronicling Hartley's three year European sojourn before and just at the inception of World War I. The letters begin with Hartley's 1912 arrival in Paris and provides invaluable commentary on Gertrude Stein's salons, the paintings of Picasso, Cezanne, and Matisse, and his encounters with many of the leading lights of the European world of artists, art dealers, and gallery owners. Hartley continues in 1913 to write an informative correspondence about the Expressionist artists and art trends that he encountered in Germany. This amazing body of correspondence concludes with Hartley's late 1915 return to an America seasoned by the influx of pre-war modern art. My Dear Stieglitz is a welcome and invaluable contribution to 20th Century Art History reference collections and supplemental reading lists.

Super collection of letters!
I loved this collection of letters because the correspondence is so succint, complete, and filled with emotion and drama. The letters really gave me a sense of what the artist was going through at this time in his life.

Also, the editor did a great job with the appendices and the footnotes - they are as entertaining and informative as the letters themselves.

A definitive analysis of changes in North Carolina
This is the most comprehensive and informative state atlas I have ever reviewed. Excellent maps, great charts and clearly written text makes "The North Carolina Atlas" a book that needs to be on the shelf of every public library and in the hands of all North Carolina devotes. Over the last century North Carolina has transformed itself from a struggling southern state to one of the fastest growing economies in the U.S. "The North Carolina Atlas" provides a definitive analysis of the changes that have created this wonderful state.

History, population, urbanization, and economy are transforming forces that molded North Carolina into what it is today. Each of these sections are clearly laid out so that the reader can make a critical analysis of the change and form an assessment of the coming changes that the future may bring.

Especially interesting are the sections that deal with quality of life in North Carolina. Crime, education, health care, water and air quality, cultural arts and outdoor recreation are profiled and supported by scores of maps, charts and diagrams. This is a book I would especially want in my possession if I was considering moving my family and business to this State. Highly Recommended.

More Than Just Maps
As Governor Jim Hunt says in the forward, "North Carolina is at a crossroads in its history." This "atlas" provides not only a wealth of information, but an intelligent perspective on the future of the state as it enters the 21st century.

Subjects matter includes the natural environment, history, population, urbanization, economy, agriculture, manufacturing, transportation, trade, politics, air quality, water resources, crime, health, education, arts, and recreation. I found these topics to be presented in an effective manner and certainly more enlightening than the statistical record one might imagine.

I also discovered, before I placed my order, that I was able to preview some of the book's illustrations at the UNC Charlotte Cartography Lab web site.

I would recommend this text not only to students, researchers and teachers, but anyone interested in a comprehensive and knowledgeable summary of the diverse state of North Carolina.

Highly useful info for the electrical engineer
This book demonstrates how to use Mathematica to do electronic design and includes a demo version of software "NODAL". The chapters include DC circuits, small signal analysis, filter design, component design and sensitivity, time series, high frequency circuits, and noise analysis. The difference between this program and SPICE is that you can do the analysis symbolically. The HF chapter show how to do stability analysis of RF circuits and matching network design. I found the book helpful.

Every thing you need to know about the baroque bass violone
This is perhaps the most comprehensive book on the baroque double bass violone. It was originaly written in German by Alfred Planyavski and translated into English by Dr. James Barket. The book includes insightful information, illustrations, photographs and perhaps the most complete bibliography on the double bass. I used this book as my main source in writing for my master's research and bibliography class. I would recommend this book for anyone interested in the history of the double bass.

It's just.... a great book
This is a book I really liked. It explains almost everything you need to know about horses. It's clear and complete. Approaches every subject you could look for, especially those related to surgery. I borrowed this book from a friend, read it all, but it was not enough, this book has too much information. So, if you are a veterinarian, a student, a horse trainer, a horse owner or just a horse lover, this is a perfect book to have in your personal library to consult it whenever you need.

Hanoi Commitment
Published in Hardcover by Rif Marketing (1981)
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

Superb!
"The Hanoi Commitment" is the only book I've read so far on what it was like to be a prisoner of the North Vietnamese. Mulligan's book is interesting because he give the reader a "play by play" account of a day in the life of a prisoner from his capture in 1966 to his release in 1973. One of the things I appreciated about the book was his faith. He kept referring to the Lord Christ and the fact that he prayed to Him several times daily for strength. As a Christian, I found this a great testimony. The story was told fairly as well, for Mulligan not only tells the reader of the evil things that the animalistic North Vietnamese did, but also the compassion (genuine, not propaganda) that some of the NVA soldiers showed him. This book will put the reader's own life in perspective. The small things we go through pale in comparison to what Captain Mulligan went through. He is truly an inspiration to me.
