Grandmother from Massachusetts
Great fun! Activities require very easily accessible materials that educate and entertain. We took this book to a family reunion and had everyone from age 8 to 88 trying to do the experiments the scientific experts claim are Impossible. Now, every time my grandchildren (ages 6 and 10)visit, this is the first book they drag off the shelf. This is a timeless winner!

This is a great book full of science challenges.
Bet You Can't is a wonderful tool for teachers and students. Science is presented as fun challenges. It can be used in the classroom setting in many ways--as independent centers, and as science process presentations. Students are amazed at the activities. This book helps students understand science in a fun.

Great Kids Book
This is one of the best written, most comprehensive and accurate children's books about Alaska that I have found. The illustrations are well drawn and clever. This book holds the interest of young children and I would recommend it as a great addition to any young child's library.

Great educational book!
I was given this book by my aunt who moved to Point Barrow, Alaska to be a teacher there. She gave me this book to teach me about where she was to be living. This book taught me a lot in a very educational way. I highly recommend it, The pictures are great too!!

T-Air-rifc!
This book is a great introduction to the concept that air is a real thing even though it can't be seen. It has easy experiments that anyone could do at home. The illustrations give life to the experiments and the information. The story does an excellent job of introducing the idea of air as a real thing even though kids can't see it. It touches on the science of molecules. I would recommend this book for preschool clear through elementary. It would be a great starting off point for discussing gases and I would consider it a very early flirtation with chemistry.

Great science for preschoolers!
'I Get Wet' is an inspiring book that triggers scientific curiosity not only in preschoolers but adults as well! I started reading the book to my then 3 year-old in the living room and next thing I know, the entire family moved to the kitchen to perform the series of experiments suggested in the book. The experiments show simple concepts on water properties that are easily understood by kids even at an early age.

Really cool science experiments
If you've got a kitchen, you can make science, with the easy edible experiments contained in this book. Cobb points out that an ordinary kitchen has all the same necessary equipment as a basic laboratory: materials, equipment, water, a heat source and refrigeration.

The text and experiments are set up to help kids learn the hows and whys of scientific experimentation. The experiments include making cheese, studying food additives, methods of food preservation and the effects of freezing and thawing.

After reading the book, I was itching to try some of the experiments myself, particularly the ones for making homemade cheese and bootleg Coca-Cola®.

Fran Proscino, Mom
Six chapters of incredible science experiments. The titles range from "Mirror Writing" to "Extract DNA in Your Kitchen" This is truly a book I needed for my kids. After having lived through 2 science fairs in middle school I can't wait to use this one. Includes an introduction "Why Science Anyhow?" and has indexes by subject, discipline and challenge level...very helpful determining age appropriatness.

Tasty
What a great way to teach science. Children learn best when they can relate to what they are learning and they can relate to most food. Tell them, they forget; show them they remember; but once they've made it and eaten it they will understand(paraphrase of a chinese proverb). I consider this a significant book in our collection for teachers and future teachers.

Kitchen Chemistry at its best
I've had fun with this book as a teacher in my own classroom, as a parent and grandparent in my own kitchen, and best of all as a substitute teacher using it for filler in high school chemistry classes and sometimes wowing advanced chemistry students with how much I know for "just being a mommy." My kids have more vivd memories of this book than they do of video games.

I bet you can have fun with these experiments!
I tend to prefer Bet You Can't myself (probably because tryingfind the way an experiment CAN be done presents a challenge, untilgiving in to the fact that is impossible), but this book is good too. This would be a useful book for elementary school teachers; students can learn some science and have fun at the same time. Of course, I don't mean to imply that only children can enjoy these activities! By the way, see the picture of the spoon on the nose? That doesn't necessarily work; don't place your bets on that activity. Most of them seem to work, though.

The Ultimate Test - 8yr old Grandson
I gave this book to my 8yr old Grandson on an outing with Grandma this past week. I handed it to him as we began our 35 min trip by car. He leafed slowly through the pages and for the next 20 mins. we discussed each image.

The author chose to color the images which makes it easier to identify each object relative to the text. And makes it fun to look at. However, one or two actual grayscale photos with arrows would have been nice. I kept wanting to explain to him that the carpet beetle wasn't really day-glo colors, etc. Hopefully, the next book out in hardcover will show a few real images. For the adults, I'll add that my engineer at home enjoyed the photos as well.

Extraordinary Science!
Vicki Cobb and Kathy Darling do a great job of involving kids in science experiments and theories. Usually science is thought of as a boring and dull subject but the authors of this book turn that stereotype around in no time at all! Kids are trying out experiments, enjoying themselves, having fun...all while they are learning true, scientific facts. The experiements are lots of fun and allow the children to become involved in something other than television or video games in this day and age. Travel around your neighborhood with this book and you will be sure to have a great time while learning interesting science facts.
