A great book written by a very talented writer
Love action thriller, folks? Then please read this one, and you won't regret! There is only one thing that I'd like to remind Mr. Clarkson: Don't let Devlin to mix up in a mass battleground with automatic weaponry, because it sucks! If Mr. Clarkson's 2nd and 3rd books could be like this first and the best one, allowing Devlin to use his wits and martial art technique to do the jobs, instead of using sub-machine gun or grenades, it would be more fun. Once the hero could only solve the problem by automatic weapon and made the shoot-to-kill wipeout become the only choice, it would kill the whole thing

The best action writer alive
Three books I've read by John Clarkson are the best action thrillers you can find in English. I read about one action/thriller/suspense book a week but haven't read anything better than this. Fast-paced, realistic, great characters, good story - they have it all.

Best 'action' writer out there
All three of his books are the best action novels out there. Period. My heart never beat like it did reading any other novel. I don't know how clarkson does it, I guess some writers excel in certain areas and Mr. Clarkson has a gift for writing action. In this review, what I say about this book applies to all of his books. So I won't single out any one, they're all,,,, great ! His books are pure heat. I know it's a cliche to say ' I couldn't put it down ' but there's no other way to describe how you feel when you read them. I'd tell myself, ok, just one more chapter and then I'll go to bed. Well, 3 or 4 chapters later, I have to force myself to stop. It's such a rush ! Ok, onto serious analysis. The plot is strong, the tension builds with a major climax at the end, the characters are deep and real, especially Jack Devlin, you care about the charecters, the pace is as good as it can get - Damn Fast !, man, all three of his books are superbly written. Read all three, you'll be hooked ! when's the next one ? I neeeeeeed it.... michael

Excellent police drama!
Although I missed the Devlin character, this story was well written as expected from Clarkson. Although I wish his editor had caught many of the typos and missing or misplaced words! Those were numerous enough to be distracting. Clarkson's sense for reality is exquisite. Even though the violence may not appeal to most people, I suspect sadly, it's closer to real life than not. If you are looking for a fast paced police thriller with lots of action and Steven Segalism...this is the book for you! Rogue cop about to lose his pension if he's booted off the force a year before his retirement. His commanding officer assigns him and a cast of equally volatile cops to end the gang wars over an appartment complex. A war ensues between the crack dealers who use the appartment complex as a base and the muslim gang hired by the complex owner to get them out. Enter Loyd (with on 'l') the rogue cop and his cohorts and they are in it for the long haul! You won't be disappointed.

Four (And A Half) Stars From a Tough Critic
A good book and a fun read, worth your while and then some.

This book easily matches Clarkson's first (of four), "And Justice for One," which I enjoyed start to finish. The action here is fast and furious - it always is with Clarkson - and realistic and story-oriented, too, which so many writers forget to bother with nowadays. The dialogue is crisp, and you won't plow through every set of quotations just to get to the point. Best of all, the story is riveting, and I found myself trying to figure out the New Lots puzzle right alongside Loyd Shaw.

In this day and age of McBooks (Grisham, Clancy, et al.), I take my hat off to Clarkson for coming up with an interesting idea - who really is responsible for one of those crack-infested slums that we see in the newspapers and on TV? - and then taking the time and effort to research and write an exciting execution. If you like action thrillers, you'll be thrilled by all the action, and you'll enjoy the writing and story, too.

New Lots Packs a Mean Punch!
My attention never wavered once while I was reading this book. I've read all of Clarkson's Devlin series, and this book is the best he's written since One Man's Law. Great action and great writing to support it. We want more from Clarkson, and we want it now! I highly recommend this book.

Still good, but worse than AND JUSTICE FOR ONE
Fighting against the whole regiment on one of the Hawaiian islands with automatic weapons for mass destruction became so bored and a highly unlikely scenario. Mr. Clarkson should go back to his first Devlin book, letting the hero use his body and mind to do the fights

Action ! Action ! Action !
Clarkson has a talent for writing 'action' novels. Sure the story may be overdone a bit in some places but who cares ? You read for excitement, for a rush. I couldn' put this one down either, just like his other two books. You'll enjoy this one,it's a lot of fun. michael

Reed's life turns upside down.
Active man loses leg in motorcycle accident. During his convalescence, (and while he is feeling sorry for himself), he recieves a troubling communication from his cousin. Retarded, forty, and institutionalized, the cousin has worse problems than the pain of prosthesis. Thrilling, insightful, a newly handicapped man's struggle to overcome the evil in a closed world that has no compassion or respect for differences.

Unusual scenario and fast-paced
Bill Reed, a recent leg amputee, has to abandon the self-indulgent life he has fashioned to accommodate his disability and try to unravel the reason his cousin, a Down's syndrome victim is being mistreated in the private institution where he has resided for a number of years. In so doing, Reed learns to triumph over his disability in order to save his cousin's life. This is a fast-paced and engaging yarn, although the skulduggery seems based on a rather doubtful premise. The writing is good, and action outweighs introspection by a good deal.

Reed's Promise
What a wonderful way to spend a hot summer day. Watching a man come to terms with his disability and the disability of his cousin made an engrossing read. I highly recommend this book. It is one of the best I have read this sumer.

This one started to turn me away from Clarkson
Jack Davlin almost became an automatic killing machine in this book which was so bored. I could not believe this wonderful character created by Clarkson turned sour so fast and so tasteless in the 3rd book. Clarkson lost his focus of how to make his hero become more interesting

Excellent
Wow! A page turner! Mr. Clarkson's three books have yet to let me down. He has got to be one of the best action writers around. Since 1996, many of my customers (I'm an independent magazine/bookstore owner) and I are eagerly awaiting his next book.
