Better than Betty Crocker!
Viewers, I know Betty Crocker Cookbook has been around for a very long time; long before I knew how to say Betty Crocker, but when I first discovered MaryAnn's Cookbook, I was living in Cali, and I had to order the Cookbook thru a major Bookstore. Upon reciept of the Cookbook, I started with the Meatloaf by the Professor...It is the best I've ever had; now don't get me wrong I do enjoy making meatloaf the ole fashion way, but that recipe will leave you coming back for more. So I relocated to the South, and left my Cookbook with a relative to use, unfortunately, I never got it back, so I contacted every Bookstore in this town, and everyone is sold out, or can't order the Cookbook. So, I saw on the Amazon.com that I could order the Cookbook, and I've always been reluctant about putting my CC number online, so I sent a MO in to the address listed on Amazon, and to no avail, my MO was lost in the shuffle, I went belistic, so I am now forced to put my CC online in order to get the Maryann Cookbook, and I will tell each and everyone out there, if you've tried the rest, then you MUST try Maryann Cookbook, it is the BEST. It's worth losing the money from the MO and having to go another route to get my Maryann Cookbook. God only knows, I wish I could have ordered the Cookbook from Maryann herself, then I know I would have long recieved my Cookbook by now. Again its worth it!!

Waited for Years for This...
I've seen this cookbook sold in book collector's magazines, but always lost track of how to get it. I am so glad to add it to my collection of cookbooks. I plan to try most of the recipes, but will leave the possum recipes to the Darlings.

Great comfort favorites!
I received this cookbook as a shower gift ten years ago from my 90-something year old great, great aunt. At the time, I thought it looked a bit hokey...it just goes to show that we young cooks have so much to learn from those that have gone before us! It has all of my family's favorites -- it is usually the place that I can find the recipe for all of those good things I remember from my childhood. I have over 60 cookbooks, and it is one of my most-used! This one is a "must-have".

Tasty, tasty, tasty.
A wonderful cooking tool - I have an autographed copy

Great Cookbook with great historical information also.
This cookbook not only gives you wonderful (easy) recipes, but also an insight to Southern Gospel Music. They are also donating a portion of the proceeds to the Southern Gospel Music Museum which I think is really generous!!

FABULOUS COOKBOOK! GREAT SOUTHERN RECIPIES & MUSIC TRIVIA!
It's a great cookbook in the 'Southern Dinner on the Grounds' tradition -- great photos and trivia about Gospel Music legends including Bill and Gloria Gaither, Mark Lowry and the late J. D. Sumner and Brock Speer. A book with those great southern recipies alone is worth the price, but with this book you get photos, stories and more. Worth every penny!

good for anyone; fabulous recipes
This cookbook has some fabulous recipes. I have been cooking for about 19 years and this book is one of my favorites (I have a collection of over 75 cookbooks). The recipes vary from the challenging and the complex to the very simple that you can whip together when there are time constraints. Really popular at a recent potluck was a chocolate cherry cake recipe that was deceptively simple and yet was a hit with all who tried it. There is also many bits of interesting information and trivia about gospel music personalities. There are fantastic pictures of your favorite stars throughout the cookbook. The personality of the artists is expressed by descriptions of why this is their favorite recipe before each recipe is presented. This is an excellent book for either personal use or as a gift.

Hardcover Cookbook Collector
This is a lovely publication, full of photos from the show and lots of great recipes. I collect cookbooks and this is now one of the "finds" of my collection. Thank you.

Aunt Bee's Mealtime in Mayberry
I read this book from cover to cover today at work and being an "Andy of Mayberry" fan (and I love to cook, too), I found it delightful and typed 4 of the 'choicest' recipes. I'd love to own it and to give it to some special friends for Christmas, too.

Great recipes!
I bought the book thinking it was just a little "Andy Griffith" nostalgia, but was pleasantly surprised when the recipes were actually great! As a mother of 6, my family welcomed some new ideas for dinner (I welcomed that they were simple to make)! Also get "Aunt Bea's Delightful Desserts."

Inspirational combination of words and photography
If you have any interest in photography, natural history or West Virginia then this book is a welcome addition to you library. Jim has a unique ability to capture in words and images the experience of actually being in the Allegheny Highlands. I know because after I read the book it inspired me to go there.

The images are very well done from an artistic perspective. The words in Jim's own hand make the book an experience to enjoy again and again.

The photography in this book is amazing!
I purchased this book as a Christmas gift for my father, sight unseen, based on the description here at amazon.com. After he opened this gift, I had a chance to see it. I could not have been more pleased. The photography is amazing. It truly depicts the beauty of West Virginia. I liked the book so much that I have now ordered a copy for myself, which will be on display in my home in Washington, D.C.

A resplendent volume.
"West Virginia: The Allegheny Highlands" is an absolutely resplendent volume. Nature photographer and biologist Jim Clark masterfully captures the colors, features, and animal life in the wildest and most remote region in the Appalachian Mountains. Clark takes us through four seasons in the Alleghenies. His 100 full-color pictures are as winningly composed as they are iridescently rendered. Clark is one of those rare photographers who can truly give you a sense of grandeur in his work. In "New River Bridge, Fayette County," he doesn't just capture the forminable span of the bridge. He includes the giant (yet tiny!) boulders in the river below, so that you can get an almost stunning sense of the reach and height of this engineering marvel. But Clark is just as adept with smaller scenes. Witness "Maple Leaves in a Stream" and the almost paint-like "Reflections, Branch of the Potomac River, Grant County." And Clark's prose is nearly as penetrating as his photographs. Of a winterstorm, he writes: "The first thing I notice about the snowstorm is how still it is. Nothing is moving; the only sound I hear is the wind whispering through the trees." Don't miss this rich and captivating work.

Great Food, Great Fun
Not many things are better than spending time with an old friend, especially one who makes you laugh. This cookbook provides lots of chuckles, good recipes, and great pictures. It is almost like looking at an old photo album, recognizing the unique expressions and almost hearing the familiar voices spout the delightful quotes which are sprinkled throughout the book. It is not only a cookbook but is a book to just look through and enjoy as well. Anyone who watched the Beverly Hillbillies would enjoy reminiscing through the pages. The recipes are a nice mix of true Granny style cooking, such as Granny's Groundhog, as well as some very delicious recipes, more appetizing to city folk. The recipes are not difficult and there are some to satisfy even the hungriest Jethro in any family. The descriptions of the cast and the history of the show are fun to read. It is a wonderful mix of quotes, trivia, recipes and pictures. If you have to spend time in the kitchen, you might as well do it with Granny!

This book it is if you want to try Elvis Food.
If you want to eat some food that Elvis Presley enjoyed in his 42 years of life, then I'm sute this is the cookbook you would want to have in your kitchen or wherever you keep your cookbooks. If you want to try the famous Peanut Butter & Bannana sandwitch, I'm sure you will find it in here. I don't have the book in front of me. A restaurnt has a recipe for Elvis Presley's favorite pizza. Which I'm not 100% sure if Elvis Presley was a big pizza fan. I think I'm am about 50% sure of Elvis liking pizza. But I am 100% that Elvis Presley loved Peanut butter & Bannanana Sandwitches.

Elvis favorites and mine!
Great book with some super recipes for all families to share! Love the pictures and the little tidbits of family stories. Keep up the great work Donna.

Filled with great recipes and tidbits about the King
I loved all the great photos and personal stories that accompanied wonderful traditional Southern recipes. Its much more than just a cookbook. The stories about Elvis were touching, and as a huge Elvis fan, and lover of food and eating, this will keep me in the kitchen for months to come. Elvis' favorite cornbread recipe is now one of my favorites. I highly recommend this book for Elvis lovers around the world.

Absolutely Wonderful!
I recieved this book yesterday from amazon and finished it today. This book kept me interested and I loved seeing all the candid behind-the-scene, and rare photo's. It was also nice to see rare interview's with every cast member including Aneta Corsaut (Helen Crump Taylor), Andy Griffith (Andy Taylor), Don Knott's (Barney Fife), and many more! You will not be dissappointed, a must for any Mayberry fan!

Mayberry Memories
An excellent book and well put together. You will find amazing photographs of all the characters in the cast...and then some. One of the most interesting photos, in this book, is one of an ariel view of the Mayberry Town near Culver City, California. An actual town within a town.

I have read other books and also found them interesting with regard to the Andy Griffith show, but it was great to see all the pictures and read the personal comments of the stars and the people behind the scenes.

I believe that anyone , like myself, who really loved the show will enjoy this a great deal. Well done. This was one of my all time favorites shows and this book shows a lot of the people who made it such a great series.

Best Griffith Show Book Ever!
Since publication of my "Andy Griffith Show Scrapbook" in 1993 I have regrettably been away from the world of Mayberry working on many other books in the ensuing years. However, Jim Clark and Ken Beck's "Mayberry Memories" made me recall just why this show is the epitome of classic American comedy. It is superb in every respect, and filled with dozens of rare photos that will impress even the most hard-core Griffith collector. Clark and Beck are uniquely suited for this project, having spent so many years documenting the Griffith show phenomenon through other books, fan clubs, and events. They've outdone themselves with this definitive tribute to one of the truly great shows. There's only one word for it...."Big!" (Or as Mr. Fife would say, "Aw, big ain't the word for it....it's REALLY big!")

Get to know the girl next door
Ever since her "Father Knows Best" days, Elinor Donahue has been a familiar presence on our screens. She always seemed so "up". Is that real, or just acting? After reading this unusual book that is both an autobiography and a cookbook, I've reached the conclusion that Elinor is real, on-screen and off. I don't recall reading a single word in which she said anything bad about anyone. She seems to be as charming and optimistic as her image. She's a lady in the truest sense of the word, and it was a delight to read her book. Now to try out some of those terrific recipes . . . .

Elinor's engaging collection of recipes and memories.
Elinor re-affirms her fans thoughts that she is indeed a warm and facinating person. Her collection of favorite foods and rememberances are entertaining as well as an insight into her life and dreams. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves TV history, great food, and, of course, Elinor Donahue.

WONDERFUL! Warmly written and filled with great recipes.
I _LOVE_ this book. I found it to be very unique, and different from most celebrity cookbooks ... It is very warmly written, a veritable treasure trove of fascinating little insights into Hollywood's biggest names (and their favorite recipes), and shows Elinor Donahue to be an exceptionally kind, lovely person. She also includes a large number of her own favorite recipes, which look delectable -- and which I can't wait to try. (My copy is studded with bookmarks, since there are so many dishes I'm eager to make.) I love it both as reading material, and as an outstanding cookbook. I'll be buying additional copies to give as gifts.

Learning by Designing Pacific Northwest Coast Native Indian Art, vol.1
Published in Paperback by Raven Publishing (27 November, 1999)
Authors: Jim Gilbert and Karin Clark
Amazon base price: $27.95
Average review score:

good beginnings.
This book is an excellent opening into NW Coastal art. It does not address the meanings or legends but mainly how designs are created and build up of elements. Lots of illustrations. Its an excellent reference for the carver or artist wanting to work with the designs (note: no carving techniques etc are discussed; just design but that is enough)

Full of information = full of courage
I bought this book during an Alaskan cruise. By the time we reached our 3rd stop, Ketchikan, we were comfortably literate in North Coast Indian art. (Not experts!) I impressed a carver by being able to identify the animals in the totem pole he was carving. Being able to identify the animals gave our trip a richness we would not have had.
But even better, this wonderful volume, full of instructions, gave me the courage to try to draw something and I am NOT an artist. However, we now have a family totem: a North Coast Indian art version of our Norwich terrier. This book was worth every penny. I can't wait until the volume 2 comes out.

One of the best books on the topic
I've purchased EVERY book I can find on the topic of Pacific Northwest Coast Native Indian artwork (currently I have over 40), and this is one of the best, especially if you want to try your hand at this type of artwork.

This book contains tons of examples, explanations, and a nice amount of info about the tribes and styles. This is the only book I've found with a section that actually takes you step-by-step through the process of creating some Northwest Coast art! (Note that the recently-published volume 2 also does.)

If you want to try your hand at drawing this kind of art, I recommend that you buy "Looking at Indian Art of the Northwest Coast" by Hilary Stewart as an excellent book for giving you an overview and feel for the art form, buy this book and volume 2 by the same authors for the extensive examples and how-to information, and I also recommend "An Analysis of Form" by Bill Holm, which is the single most in-depth study of the elements that are used in PNWC artwork.
