A GREAT BIOGRAPHY
Captivating, well written, and extremely well-researched, this biography of one of the formative preachers of this century brilliantly blends biography and social history. This is not a religious book, but a story of one man seizing every opportunity to make the most of his life, to have "an adventure a day", to 'Zelig-like' be at "the center of immensities" of the issues and personalities of his day. Parallel to the story of this powerful and influential preacher is the story of Stidger's relationships to his fellow man, particularly the rich relationship that he sustained with his only daughter. A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BOOK.

A well written and very timely biography...
This book explores the place where religion and pop culture meet. It is an honest and revealing look at the search for the American Dream via the church. Bill Stidger was a man who truly put himself on the line for what he believed. But like anyone, he had his imperfections. Jack Hyland illuminates the humanity in all his subjects. His earnest and devoted writing exposes the complexities of religion, family, fame and success. A highly recommended book.

A Great Read
This is a marvelous volume. It is meticulously researched and lovingly written by Bill Stidger's grandson. The book tells the story of the evangelist who inspired Sinclair Lewis to write Elmer Gantry. It is fascinating to observe the birth of the relationship between the electronic media and religion that would give rise years later to people like Billy Graham, Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson. The book is also a study of innovation and marketing and publicity in the Church in the first half of the last century, a reality normally overshadowed by the work of people like Billy Sunday and Father Coughlin. It is also the story of a family and a nation and the impact of a national ministry upon them. All in all it is a great combination. I am always thrilled when I really enjoy a book and learn a lot from it.

I have read this excellent book by Kenn Gangel, Personally I want to say that this book is excellent and extraordinary. Because of his insight and scholars background plus his background of practical ministry that make this book became awesome. Especially in Christian Coaching, this is quite new and nobody writes in the some topic as good as Gangel does. With Biblical and scriptural passages background plus practical way of coaching principles and action make this book easy to read and very beneficial. Scholarly. Scriptural. Music notations. Three languages.
What a great, inspiring work of worship has been accomplished in this statement of faith by the ancient Christian church in impressive liturgical form. The original Coptic language is translated into harmony with both English and Arabic. The actions of the priest and the choir are described in both living languages. The musical notes and corresponding chant syllables are clearly printed. Music scholars, religious scholars, researchers in ancient languages will all find rich rewards in this volume. The "ordinary" person-in-the-pew who loves Biblical Scriptures will also find confirmation and awe in the deep worship that has survived since the first century. The reader of this work will find the introductory remarks instructive to his study and worship. And if the reader has Arabic as his primary language, he will be impressed to have this volume also readable from back-to-front and left-to-right, with the English and Coptic also accompanying.

The best resourse on Roman Paganism in print!
"The Dictionary of Roman Religion" is an absolute masterwork of a resource book. Literally every important topic is covered here in great detail... pagan deities, rites, cults, religions, ritual tools, holy sites, priesthoods, festivals, famous individuals, etc. The best part is that this book covers far more than just Roman religion. The entries here in effect give a clear picture of how religions interacted in the ancient world. Here you'll find deities that the Celts and Romans worshipped together, German-Roman temples, Graeco-Egyptian deities, etc. No matter what your personal area of interest you will find useful material here. This is a book you'll refer back to constantly for information that is both concise and complete. I've met at least a dozen people who own this book and all of them consider it the most helpful book on ancient religion they own

A great book for young pastors
After reading what pastoring was all about I felt that the way most pastors are running the church today is totally out of order. We are not to be lord's over God's heritage, but servants to God's people. Not bosses, CEOs, not employers, but servants....this is a great book!

Faithful Living in a Faithless World
Published in Paperback by Intervarsity Press (1998)
Author: Roy Clements

Incisive Exegesis in a Popular Style
Roy Clements has produced a masterful study of key passages from Ezekiel and Daniel, giving keen exegetical analysis yet for a popular audience. He points out many points of contact between the attitudes of Israelites just before the exile and the contemporary church in the West. Altogether, this book provides a stunning Biblical critique of "Christian culture" and popular Christian attitudes while avoiding taking these passages out of context. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to study the prophets or for anyone concerned with tendencies in the contemporary church to see ourselves as having it "all together". As Clements notes, much of the church in the West has no concept of the kind of persecution the early church underwent or the kind of judgment Israel received with the exile, and it has drastically influenced our lifestyles, lingo, and attitudes toward Christian holiness and worship. Books like this are seriously needed in today's church, and it is quite unfortunate that his other books have all gone out-of-print. Snatch this one up, before it goes the way of the others! This man is often described as the best preacher in the U.K., and this book gives credibility to such claims.

Outstanding Overview
Lohse has done the church an invaluable service by providing this overview of Luther's theology. In the first part of the book, the author sets the stage for the remainder of the study with some preliminary chapters delaing with issues such as the historical and theological situation in the early sixteenth century and Martin Luther's early life.

The second part of the book is the most helpful in that it traces the development of Luther's thought historically in the context of his many debates, disputations and conflicts. From his marginal notes in Augustine to his debates with the antinomians, Lohse provides a good understanding of how Luther's thought took its final form.

The third part of the book attempts to approach Luther's theology from a more systematic perspective, dealing with it topically. It is divided into chapters on sola scriptura, reason and faith, sin, justification, the church, etc. Lohse provides some crucial insights into Luther's views on each of these doctrines in this section. The book concludes with a brief appendix on Luther's attitude toward the Jews - an important addition at the close of the twentieth century.

This book should be the standard reference on the theology of Luther for years to come.

Wonderful Study of Worship
Twenty years ago I studied Hebrew under the teaching of Dr. Ron Allen. His authentic love for the Lord, the language and for the people in his life helped me hear the music of the Psalms and the rest of the Word of God. His teaching and life helped me in my own love and understanding of our Lord and His word. That same authenticity and insight is brought to bear in this book. As a pastor I found the balanced treatment of worship in the church extremely helpful. I found the accuracy of the details and research to be significant in dealing with one's preferences and the preferences of others. It was very affirming in where we are as a church in regard to worship, yet challenging as well. The emphasis is is back to the bible as the source of information. As a person who worships God I found the sensitivity and insights moving in such a way that I can hear the music of the Word of God. I highly recommend this book to all. Thank you to both Dr. Allen and his son.
