a very good book about the furtrade
The book describes everything about the furtrade in the American west.It describes the hunters and trappers, the history of the furtrade west from 1807 to 1843,the Santa Fe trade, how the western country looked like and the indians. It was very interesting because it described so much.It should have described the hunters equipment better.

The national influence of Hiram M. Chittenden
"Hiram M. Chittenden His Public Career", although out of print and found only in a few libraries, is an extremely interesting book about his role in the early formation of our nation's first two National Parks and river/forest conservation practices. Hiram's abilities, as an engineer, historian, thinker and conservationist made him very important around the turn of the 20th Century. Highly controversial in his public career and very private in his personal life, Hiram was truly an admirable man. His beliefs about multi-purpose use of the nation's resources still are important today. The book reads somewhat slow because of so many footnotes and Hiram's many concurrent involvements, another attribute to his skills as an effective and exempliary leader. The book thoroughly documents Hiram's importance to our nation - flood control practices, the aestetics of the road system in Yellowstone and it's preservation through necessary congressional financial support, determining the boundaries of Yosemite, the Lake Washington Ship Canal - very impressive career indeed.
