More fun than 7 League Boots
I bought this book at school in 1973, and read it dozens of times as a child. I never grew tired of the story. Even though it has been more than 20 years since I last read this book, I can still remember most of the things the witch left... Just thinking about the story makes me feel young, curious, and happy. This book stands with the better-known classics. I can't imagine why it has ever gone out of print.
fond Memories
It has probably been ten years since I last read a book by Ruth Chew, In my third grade class, my teacher would treat us all by reading a 'witch book" by ruth chew. What the Witch Left remained my favorite- i could just imagine everything that was described. It really stimulated the imagination. I really enjoyed her books, and i hope to begin a collection, for my future children.
Excellent reading
I have been looking for this book for days and couln't remember the name thanks for the info I plan to buy this book so I can share it with my four children. It brings back memories and it was my favorive book as a child and plan to read it again and again.

Passing it on
I rember reading this book when I was little. I read over and over again. Now that I have a little cousin I am going to read it to her, and I hope that the wonderful story will stay with her like it did with me.
A mysterious, magical fascinating journey.
I absolutely loved this book, I read it as a child, I think i must have been about 10 or 11 when I read it. I must have read it about 5 times. I have been trying to get hold of it ever since I lost it over 15 years ago. I'm 30 now. To summarise, its about a couple of kids who find their way into the hollow of a tree. When they dig their way out again, they are in another land. Its fantastic stuff for kids.
Fabulous adventure into a land of fantasy!
I am an elementary teacher and have read this book aloud to my students for the last ten years. They all have loved it. I still receive letters from former students who remember The Wishing Tree. This book has sparked a sense of adventure in students who had never picked up a chapter book previously. I recommend it to young and old alike!

*God I Miss This Book*
man, what can i say, this book was apart of me years ago, about 10-15 years ago, i lost mine i guess and i have been wondering for years how to get another one, i want to read it again and recapture that youth, and have it to share with children, if i ever have any, when i had this book, i read it so many times, it is truly a classic, and i cannot wait to find it again so i can remember what i so cherished about that story of the Magic In The Park.....and of the children who were allowed to explore.
Great fantasy book.

I loved this book so much as a kid!
What a great book for any kid interested in magic! I used to own this book and have been thinking about it a lot lately. I wasn't sure what it was called, but after searching, I found out its name and now have reserved it at the library. I can't wait to introduce it to my own daughter, who I know will love it as well!
A Childhood Favorite!
It's such a shame that most of Ruth Chew's books are not readily available. They're wonderful stories full of magic, witches, wizards and adventure, perfect for children not quite old enough for Harry Potter and magical even for those much older than the target age group. "No Such Thing as a Witch" is my favorite of Chew's books. Tad and Nora are convinced that their neighbor Maggie is a witch. As their friendship with the old woman grows, she gives them enchanted fudge. One piece makes people love animals, two pieces allow them to understand animal language, three pieces make them act like animals, and four pieces....watch out!

A fantastical, magical, wonderful modern children's classic
Growing up, Chew was my favorite writer and this is one of her premier books. It's about Harrison Peabody, a good-natured wizard who has a few "kinks" to iron out in his magic. As with all of her works, this book allows kids to set free their imaginations and really have fun reading--I did when I first read it over 15 years (gulp!) ago!
Apparently, Chew's books are still popular with kids as I saw her listed on several school reading lists and also found some online book reviews from kids. It'd be great if they'd start printing her books again--now I'm desperate to locate copies of anything she's written!
excellent
iread this book when i was six and i kept the copy and re-read it over and over again. but now i'm 28 and need a new one

An enchanting childrens' story
It's too bad that this book is now out of print. I have my own copy since childhood, and as a story of magic, witches, friendship and flying, it has the enchanting elements of any Ruth Chew or "wishing chair" setting. Try and get your hands on a copy of any Chew novel and you will be taken back to the time when you believed in spells and dreams coming true.

What an adventure!
I know that I am a little too old to be reviewing a children's book, but I can remember reading this book as a young girl and loving it! "What the Witch Left" is a story about a young girl who is very curious about a locked dresser door. She manages to secretly open the drawer, only to find it contains various ordinary objects. She discovers though, that each object has its own unique magical quality. Each item opens a new door for wonderful exploration and adventure. (I am trying to buy this book myself.)

One of the most imaginative, creative, FUN books for kids
This is without a doubt my favorite Chew book--I still remember it vividly even though it's been over 15 years since I last read it. The storyline concerns a brother and sister who are involved in magical adventures when an unusual plumber comes to fix a leak in their house one day. He has some great "gadgets", including a mini ladder that fits in his pocket but expands to full size when opened and a pencil that magically transforms objects when you write with it.
I HIGHLY recommend Chew's books for both old and young (if you can find them--I'm having a little trouble tracking anything down--let me know if you can offer any insights or suggestions!)

Great Young Kids Book
I read Ruth Chew books as a child in grade school and absolutely loved them. It is sad to see this book is out of print as well as her other books. This book is about a young girl who's mother finds a broom in tha backyard. Of course her and her best friend are off to have great adventures in the world of being a witch, because they discover that they can fly on the broom. A truly enjoyable read with illustrations here and there through out book.
