This isn't like the Disney movie! I loved this book but at the same time I was shocked by the violence of the fighting between Hook and the Lost Boys and the Indians. I don't think I'll be reading this one to my nephews and neices, not until I have edited out the violent bits. It wasn't that In-Your-Face violence of the Hollywood movies, it was more insinuated and there was definetly a menacing atmosphere surrounding Wendy's, Peter's and Michael's adventures in Never Never Land. I do recommend it though, just not for easily frightened youngsters. This is definetly in need of a PG rating on the cover. PARENTS: This is no Disney Peter Pan!

Driving with young children in the car quickly convinced me that it was unsafe to not give them something to listen to. After ten years I have collected a large (30+) bag of books-on-tape. I have also loaned them to others and asked for opinions. Peter Pan (read by Wendy Craig) is not only my favorite, but also the favorite of my wife and most of my friends. It is excellent for all ages (4 to 80) and even most hardened teenagers. Humour, presentation, ... a prefect 10.

The book 'Peter Pan' by J. M. Barrie is a truly beautiful work. It is never too cloyingly sweet or too harsh, and the child's perspective of the world is beautifully crafted. It does, however, bring you along on a journey to the Neverlands, and perhaps for a little while we can be reunited with our dreams.

Although Wendy seems a little prim, she is sweet and motherly. John was offhand and brave, Michael was tiny and believing. My favourite character was, however, Peter. The author really outdid himself on this one. Peter's innocent cockiness and love for dangerous adventures endeared him to me at once. He still has all his first teeth, and his first laugh - what more could we ask of him? His frightful happiness in danger reminds me of my seven-year-old self.

The book retains a magical quality right up to the last page. The midnight scene where Peter coaxes them out of the window has always stood out in my mind; there is a kind of magic in an ever-young boy, small and innocently cocky and always up to some mischief. The ending of the book is very sad, for only those who are gay and young and light-hearted can fly.

Definitely a book worth reading. Adults, trust me on this one: you might think you're too old to read this book, but once you do you'll find that a piece of Neverland still resides in your heart.

This book was very interesting. It is about an orphan girl who is sent away to live with her Grandfather in the alms. She is very happy there making lots of friends. Then she is taken away by her mean aunt to be a playmate with a rich girl; who she later makes bossum friends with. But she returns after being incrediaby homesick. The ending is very happy and uplifting, also my favorite part. Everyone should read this book because it is a VERY VERY good book.

A while back when I was in my 30's (never mind how long ago that was!) I was sick with the flu, and I found a copy of HEIDI, so I crawled into a nice warm bed and re-read the book -- as an adult.

What insight into human nature! And as an adult I appreciated the dry, understated humor. I also appreciated the spiritual insights -- that God will give us what we desire, but sometims uses circumstances we don't like to teach us truths that we couldn't learn otherwise.

When I was a girl I was often turned off by what was called "good reading," but for some reason, I enjoyed Heidi and it never seemed sappy or corny.

Very much worth reading!

Heidi is about a young girl that has lived with her Aunt Dete all of her life. Her Aunt has had enough of her so she sends her up a mountain to her Grandfather. The People of the town are very surprised at what Heidi's Aunt is about to do. They try to warn her but she won't listen. When Heidi and her Aunt get up the Alm, they find that the "Alm Uncle" is not very happy with their arrival. The Aunt doesn't care, she tells the Grandfather that she has taken care of the child long enough. She leaves and never comes back. After years of staying with her Granfather, Heidi learns how to live freely and finds new friends in high places. She learns about the mountains and the cold winters up on the Alm. As Heidi gets older her Aunt Dete comes up again and tells the Grandfather that Heidi needs to go to school. The Grandfather refuses, but eventually gives in. Dete takes Heidi to the city where she finds a new friend, Clara. Clara has to sit in a wheel chair. If you want to know why, read the book! Heidi gets into all kinds of mischieve there, she misses the mountains and can't understand why there aren't any trees. Heidi gets so homesick they have to send her back to the Alm. Clara and the other residents promise to visit her sometime in the summer. The book ends up that Clara and her Grandmother go and visit Heidi and they have the most wonderful time that they never wanted to leave. As there stay at the Alm goes on, the mountain air and hearty food strengthen Clara to where she can walk. Clara and her Grandmother leave with the promise of coming back again.

I really liked this book. It was very real, in a sense that brought you into the actual story. When I read the book, I almost wished I was there in the book listening to their conversations, or eating at their little dinner table. Whenever the book got to eating the meals, it was so real that I got hungry! I would definitely recommend this book to any age group. The author really describes the scenery to where you can picture it in your mind. I loved the book, and I am going to read again.

This story is about four girls¡¯ growth into women in Plumfield during the Civil War, and their brave father, who came back home from the battlefield, and the mother who, devotedly watched over the girls. The sisters include the beautiful and very womanly Meg; strong and sensitive tomboy Jo; innocent, kind, and quiet Beth; and free minded, sometimes selfish, but attractive girl Amy. These four girls¡¯ weaving story touches my heart deeply. Laurie, a charming young man, has an unusually sincere love for Jo, yet marries her sister Amy in the end. This scenario gives me another answer about the love and deep affection. John, who is Meg¡¯s husband, and Friedrich, who is Jo¡¯s husband, helps the story becomes more exciting. Before I started to read this book, I thought it was such a long story. But as soon as I got through a few pages, I realized I was getting into this book so fast. All of the discord and the love are compiled with various characters in this book so well that you won¡¯t ever regret reading.

When people ask me how I became such an avid reader, my answer is because I read Little Women in High School. This timeless classic of four sister growing up during the Civil War is my all time favorite book and I do not even know how many times I have read it. I treasure my copy of this book and it is one I could never part with.

Little Women is a coming of age story about four sisters Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy, and it always amazed me how Marmee would sit back and let them learn life's lessons and always find the right words to say to each of them afterward. Family values and morals as well are hard lessons to teach but through love and understanding they all learn.

Jo is my favorite character, she is so vibrant and full of life and the character based on Louisa May Alcott herself. My favorite movie version of this movie is the 1933 version with Katherine Hepburn as Jo, she truly captured Jo's spirit.

This story has been read by many generations and I'm sure that there will be many more generations enjoying the story of Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy for many many years to come.

The four sisters of the March family, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy manage to live their lives willingly, and interesting lives despite their father at war and the lack of money the family has. The closeness bondage of the sisters intrigues you as you read through the long, but exhilarating book. The love that the March family share is remarkable and leads to my jealousy due to the childhood I grew up without siblings. Marmee March is the mother of the family and holds the family together. She displays infinite wisdom in dealing with her daughters and also shows unlimited patience with an exceptionally charitable nature. Marmee also diligently teaches them the lessons they need to achieve a happiness that will carry them through their adult life.
The story of these sisters describes Meg's joys and mishaps as a young wife and mother, Jo's struggle to become a writer, Beth's tragedy, and Amy's artistic pursuits and unexpected romance. Meg, the oldest, is somewhat vain and does not like the poverty status she has to live. She dreams of having money to spend on beautiful clothes and live like the rich society girls that have become her friends. Jo is the second oldest, and is the tomboy growing into maturity with a quick temper. She is always quick to chastise her inner self and live the values that Marmee has taught her. Her main goal in life is to be a writer and she spends endless time pursuing this goal. Beth is the quiet, very shy, child who is third oldest who strives to help the less fortunate in any way she can portraying herself as an angel. Amy is the youngest, who is quite selfish and spoiled. Her desire in life is to be an artist in which she diligently looks for the beauty in the world around her to paint on canvas and dreams of painting in Paris. Alcott portrays the characters that make them come to life as you read and the thrill you have that lures you into reading more and more. This book leads you to realize what family love is.
