This is a very approachable book on logic fallicies. This type of book is something everyone should read in order to gain critical thinking skills. If you paid a lot of money for your higher education and still carelessly live your life committing devastating logic fallicies, you might as well throw your degree in the trash and read this book.

Chase's book, Guides to Straight Thinking, et al., was given to me by a friend in 1963. I read it. Enjoyed it. Digested it. It became both a treat and a bane. I learned more from the reading of that book than I had in several philosophy courses during my undergraduate years. I learned to listen for logical fallacies, and during election years I almost go nuts! As a counselor, I often use his material to help people see that what they are doing is not logical. Chase has a communications ability which is both intellectually challenging as well as almost folksy. You'll not be bored with this read.

The book is dated but fascinating. It introduces the notion that much of what we argue about is really not an argument about facts but one about definitions. It is fascinating also to note the players in the 1930s and to see what their predictions became. A wonderful introduction to semantics with the caution that if you let an enemy select the terms of the argument, he has already won it.
