1st peiod reading -A nightmare in history
Imagne for a second that you are sleeping in yuor house. Suddenly a squad of men come in and hold you at gun point. They kill all of your family members, strip you of all you close and leave you for embarssment in the middle of the street and before they leve they put a star tattoo on your head. They do this all because you are jewish.
In this book, you learn abotu the horrific events of the holocaust. Hitler had a plan called the final step in which the final goal was to wipe out all jewish people in Germany. Adolf had many ways of clereing out the jews. One was simply shooting them. Another burnig down they're house while they are inside of it. Another was a gas chamber. Last but most sickening , submiting them to sick, human experiametaion.
Tjis is a very good book but not for people who get disocrded easily.

A great book!
This is a great book because it tells about the life on a kibbutz. It tells a story of a girl named Aviva, she has a problem though she has a piano and doesn't know how to get it in her house.

A Child's Life Under Terrorist Threat
Aviva lives in a kibbutz in Israel. When her long awaited piano arrives, it is too large to fit in her house either through the door or the window. Aviva is late to school that day, distracted by the problem of the piano. Suddenly there's an air raid and the children wait in a shelter as rockets buzz overhead.

Chaikin was born in Jerusalem and now lives in New York City. This entertaining story is based on an actual event that happened when she was visiting a kibbutz family in Israel.

The story is charming, amusing and different from the usual children's tale. It shows good coming from bad and is an important vision of contemporary life in Israel; a testimony to the courage and composure of a people who live with the constant threat and actuality of terrorist attack.

Great Addition To Learning
This short 80-page book was written by Miriam Chaikin. The illustrations were by David Frampton. I found the woodcut drawings quite interesting. This book was about how Joshua led the Israelites to the Promised Land. It was a lot more interesting than reading a Social Studies book because the Social Studies Book only gives you the facts. 'Joshua in the Promised Land' puts you in those Israelite's shoes thousands of years ago.

The book itself wasn't bad, it wasn't great either. It helped if you had some knowledge of Ancient Hebrews before reading the book. The main character was Joshua, the leader of the group of Israelites. This group of Israelites completed tasks that people could only dream of doing today. They definitely were real people as I could detect from other sources in my Ancient Hebrew studies. The main challenge was to battle people in their path on the way to the Promised Land.

The pacing of the book was good. It flowed nicely, some scenes were longer than others but that's normal and doesn't bother me. My favorite scene was the Walls of Jericho. It was a scene that really happened a number of years ago. The Israelites marched around the walls of the city of Jericho which was a city the Israelites needed to defeat in order to get to the Promised Land.

I would recommend this book as an addition to your Social Studies Book. I wouldn't recommend it as a pleasure reading book. The illustrations are good and it's a short book, which I like. It's a great book to make a movie out of, only for educational purposes though. Overall, it's a good addition to your Social Studies book, and it helps to have knowledge of Ancient Hebrews before you start reading.
