Mary Explained.
This booklet provides an excellent reference for anyone who is triing to understand the official Catholic teaching of Mary the Mother of God. As with all of Father Chacon and Jim Burnham's books it gives a historical and biblical basis for the views of the Catholic Church. It shows the consistency of the teachings for over 2000 thousand years and to the shock of many Protestants actually shows that the views, of their founders, about Mary are actually the same as what Catholics believe today. This book is easy to read and understand and is well researched and presented.

Fascinating reading for American history buffs.
Rafael Chacon (1833-1925), personally witnessed the end of the Mexican Period and was an active participant in commercial, military, and political events during the early decades of the American era from territorial status to statehood. Legacy Of Honor: The Life Of Rafael Chacon, A Nineteenth Century New Mexican is unique in its detail, anecdotal style, human interest and presents one of the few existent Hispanic points of view on the era and events surrounding the creation of New Mexico. Chacon wrote his memoirs in his seventies to record for his family the drama, adventure, and sorrow he had experienced, including his later service in the American Civil War. He fought at the Battle of Valverde, fought Indians under Kit Carson, escorted the first officials to the new established territory of Arizona, and was one of the few Hispanics to attain the rank of Major, commanding Fort Stanton at the end of the war. Chacon went on to serve several terms in the territorial legislature before homesteading near Trinidad, Colorado. Legacy Of Honor is a superbly informative, biographical contribution to academic American history collections, and fascinating reading for American history buffs.

Well written &largely Bible based!
This easy-to-read, bible-based text really shows the scriptural basis of many questions against the Catholic doctrines such as Mary mother of God, purgatory, prayer to the Saints, and Sacred Tradition, etc. This 40-page text was written in a very logical and well-referenced manner.

This book has not only inspired me to further my study into the biblical teachings on the Sacraments, but also faciliated my background knowledge on biblical discussion of Church doctrines with Christians of any denomination.

I am feeling truly blessed for my faith journey and starting to feel a greater urge to share this special gift from God with others. "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations..." (Mt 28:19)

May the peace of the Lord be with you always.

Great for small groups
I've used this concise booklet in two men's small groups and have found it to be an excellent place for individuals to begin answering the questions that Catholics are commonly asked.

-Why do Catholics believe in purgatory when the word "purgatory" isn't even in the Bible?

-Why do Catholics pray to Mary and the saints when the Bible says Jesus is the "one mediator between God and man"?

This easy-to-use booklet is perfect for answering such questions. Using the Bible, the authors help those using this book to be able to explain and defend their faith.

The book answers the most common objections to the faith, including Mary, purgatory, the Eucharist, confession, and many other Catholic doctrines.

If we do not know our faith, how can we defend it? This book is a great resource for helping people to know their faith and defend it. It is the first book in a three-part series on Catholic apologetics. I highly recommend it, especially for small groups. It's inexpensive enough that each group member can purchase their own copy.

Great Intro to Catholic Apologetics
If you want to get the basics in defending the Catholic faith, this is best introductory book out there. It has many of the major arguments for Catholicism contracted into 40 easy to read pages. How do they do it? The authors get to the point without using verbose language and stories. This is a 1 to 2 hour read that will build the foundation for future studies in Catholic apologetics. When you have finished this, I recommend reading Karl Keating. When you are ready for some advanced study, try Robert Sungenis (I recommend 1-2 years of intense Bible study before you try to tackle his books).

Very good selection of poems. Feel the warmth of his house
This selection of poems is much better than the selection in his first self published book. You can feel the history and love that builds with each poem. Sketches are a great touch

A beautiful book about the beauty of children and childhood
'Betweeen the Fog' is a wonderful example of poetry as it should be. Easy to read and understand while at the same time touching our hearts and souls. The words draw pictures in one's mind that are crystal clear. Timothy has a wonderful ability to encourage us to see with ours hearts. A 'must have' book for anyone who loves children and poetry.

A special book with lots of warmth
This collection of poems displays great insightand preception. While the author may be retelling some experiences from his childhood, this work goes far beyond personal biographyand presents great awareness of contemporaryculture.

It's the thought that counts...
Michael Chacon, et al give a good attempt to easy your studying for the 70-218, Managing a Microsoft Windows 2000 Network Environment. However, this edition is riddled with obvious errors. Nearly half of these errors are contributed to poor wording (i.e. When you boot a DHCP client for the first time... listens for a lease offer , and chooses one it likes." page 98 -- DHCP clients cannot choose anything. They accept the first address that they receive. The other half are just errors (i.e. "Even though IIS is built into Windows 2000 Server, it is not installed by default." page 712 -- oh yes it is, and you should be aware of that with all the IIS hacks lately. However, the authors are quick to respond to these errors when brought to their attention and Sybex does a great job of making the corrections available on their website. Overall, the book makes a fine attempt to get you skilled in Windows 2000 network management. My only suggestion would be is not to use this book as your only source.

The standard
THere are a few things I would change with this book, but, like the other Sybex/Chellis/Donald certification books, these are the standard. This MCSA exam covers a wide swath of topics, so take it last. You'll see a lot of overlap. Know group policies. I even saw and active directory question on the exam, and was a bit surprised. The book did a good job preparing me in general.

All you need and more to pass your exam
This book cover everything you should know before attempting to pass the 70-218 exam assuming that you already study and passed the 70-215 exam. It goes beyond the scope of the exam in the area of intra and inter-site active directory replication (at least for the exam that I passed) but it helped me to understand the overall concept. The explanations are simple but effective (not lile the microsoft book).I also used the sybex tcp/ip jumpstart book who is very good at explaining the concept of subnetting.

Funny with great insight into the male psyche. E-male RULES!
E-Male was an eye-opening read for a woman who grew-up without brothers or the benefit of being exposed to the unique and intriguing as well as the tender personality aspects of men. While being laugh-out-loud funny, the e-mails also reveal a very close, intimate and touching story of male friendship. E-Male is both a fun and interesting read for men and women. You will pick up this book and re-read it from time to time for many good laughs. Highly recommend it!

A cult classic for its genre!
A close friend who I correspond with primarily via "e-mail" sent "E-Male" to me and said " You must read this!! We are Fe-Male!"

As a confirmed literature snob (Give me Pynchon or give me death! . . . yes some could argue there is no difference) I would have tragically overlooked it. Instead . . . I read the book cover to cover - unable to separate myself from it until its conclusion.

Rarely have I been so amused and touched by such fresh, honest, direct, unique yet eerily familiar voices. While I grew up in a completely different world from Anthony and Jeff -- I felt an instant connection. This book is a timeless anthem to the Generation "X" pilgrims.

While the book is remarkably clever and hilarious at times -- the unwavering focus on the men's friendship and lives remains brilliantly subtle -- and these delicate layers of friendship, marriage, career and maturity must be properly appreciated or the essence of the book is utterly lost. What makes this book particularly precious is that some people just wont "get it"

A true story of life, love and beer
I found this book to one of the most entertaining pieces I have ever read! Once I started, I could not put it down. The true-to-life stories being told as they unfold are warm and witty. "E-Male..." will make you laugh out loud with Jeff and Anthony as they traverse through life. A must read for women everywhere!

Good stories about different cultures
Rojas takes advantage of his extensive anthropological field work among different indigenous peoples of Mexico, to write concise and short stories which acutely portrait these ethnic groups, what their culture is like, and what kind of lives they lead. Each one of the twelve stories is about a specific ethnical group, so the reader gets a sense of the variety and differences among these groups. The stories go from the extraordinary to the everyday aspects of life. Rojas was a good anthrpologist, and that is reflected in the fact that his stories are not told from an "afar" Western point of view, which tends to emphasize the "exotic", but instead try to penetrate into the vision and collective soul of these groups. The general tone is melancholic, fatalist, magical, and full of references to the rites and beliefs of Mexican indians.

Now that the Zapatista uprising has brought up the issue of indigenous peoples, it should be healthy that people interested take a look at the wide variety of cultures and visions of these peoples, a first-hand account by one man who really got to live among them. Many prejudices and commonplaces will be changed after reading this. But, most of all, it is good literature, and that should suffice.

A Reality Check for men and women
I would like to say "great job" to Michael. I have read both your books and was quite impressed that a brother finally stood up and admitted what women have known for a long time. Now about Men Cry in the Dark. I think this book was very good. It let's us know just how men "really" think in terms of a relationship. Many brothers out there do have a "color" complex and the sisters just need to wake up and realize that they can't change that, no matter how much they complain about white women taking our brothers. They need to realized that because of "our" attitudes and evilness, we are driving the "real" brothers away. Keep up the good work Michael and I will definitely be purchasing your next book. For all the people that are putting him down, let's see you write a book and see if its as successful. Are you going to be professional enough to take the criticism. It's okay to voice your opinion about the book, but leave the author's personal life(in which you know nothing about!) out of it. I'm sure many of you are out there now, with several children born out of wedlock. Are you any different? If you don't want to support your own, stop buying the books and looking for something to complain about. Obviously you are not happy with yourself and have a closed mind. At least now there are more books out there for African Americans. So stop being so judgemental, my sista's.

Yo, there are a lot of haters out there!
I picked up this book about two weeks ago and skimmed right thru it. The only reason I picked it up was because it almost caused a mini-gender riot in my office. We all heard Mike on the radio (WKYS 93.9 "Russ and Olivia" morning show) here in the DC area and heard all of the women calling the show talking about how they disagreed with all the negative stuff he was saying about the "game". In this book, I believe that brotha just opened up ya'lls eyes to see how black women are coming off in the 'naughty 90's'. Mike isn't saying that all women cover up for there men cheating, or being naive about the "game" or whatever else some of ya'll playa haten women are complaining about. This is reality today. I enjoyed the book for having characters (the 'bout it black men) that weren't broke or poor or out hustlin' drugs or trying to be rap stars, like we are portrayed in other novels. I haven't read too many books showi ng brothas with any kind of prowless until this one. Mike explains why women trip and fall trying to be all this and that and why brothas today don't have time to be into all of that. I'm about to finish reading "Never Satisfied...", which is true to the core. I look forward to reading some more of Mike's work like the one he said he was working on for next year, "The Maintance Man".

Very Informative
I thought this book was good in terms of revealing what men go through and think when it comes to relationships with women. As a black man, it's good to see another brother come out with our side of the story. I liked the characters and how he gave them their own individual identity. Mark's character was rather irritating, but not to the point of overshadowing the rest. I've had my won personal encounter with a Valerie myself, so that story line blows another myth out of the water. Good call, man. The ending was a definite eye opener. Something a lot of us brothers need to experience. Good work Mike! I've read some of the other reviews and all I have to say is it's rather contradictory for those who don't like the book speak of how too much emphasis is placed on color, material things, body size, education, etc., and then turn around and attack the writer personally as if what you've written was directed at them. It's one thing to say you don't agree with what the brother has written, but when you turn around and attack him in regards to child support and writing ability, maybe you need to check yourselves to see how YOU really feel about yourselves. Let's critique the content of the book; not that of the writer's personal life! Looking forward to the 'Maintenance Man', Mike. Keep doing what you're doing.
