Beautiful Presentation, Great Ideas
As a novice gardener, I have found many instructional books to be overwhelming; their scope is often too wide for my purposes. The Garden Project Workbook Series, however, provides clear instructions for a variety of creative yet practical designs.

With help from "Beds and Borders" I was able to implement my own design for a small border in my tiny front yard, a step that I would not have been able to accomplish on my own.

All of the books in this series are topical and very worthwhile. I highly recommend them.

Easy to follow instructions for beginning gardners.
This is a good book for the beginning gardner in need of ideas for planting a garden. It illustrates 21 planting schemes and provides brief how-to-do guidelines. Generally included in the instructions are: the latin name of all plants needed and he number of plants needed; special tools and equipment when indicated; designing, spacing, and planting the bed; care and maintenance as well as alternative planting schemes.

PRACTICAL COMMON-SENSE ON LIVING WITH COPD
THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!

To all who contributed to this fine book, my undying gratitude!

When first diagnosed with COPD, all I wanted to do was research, research, research! The more I read, the more frustrated I became - that is until I located Courage and Information. This book is so down-to-earth! And it is filled with prospectives of not only a physician (with no medical "jargon"), a psychiatrist (without all the normal "stuff") and...can you believe it?...A PATIENT. How unusual to find a book written, at least in part, from the patient's prospective. What a great idea! Like I said earlier, just good, practical, common-sense information.

Even my pulmonologist agrees that it is the best resource material he has seen! And as far as I'm concerned, that's the best recommendation of all!

It really WILL help me to live a better, more fulfilling life. It will help you too. But you've got to read it first. You'll be glad you did.

I KNOW I AM.

Helping You Find the Way
If you or someone you love has been given the diagnosis of COPD, you may be asking, What now? Is there anything that can be done? Is there hope? The answer is, Yes! Life can be good with COPD and this book is a most valuable resource for the COPD patient, caregiver, and health care professional.

As a respiratory therapist working in Pulmonary Rehab I see that patients who learn about their disease and how to cope with the changes it brings live healthier, happier lives. They know that education, exercise, and support as well as a positive attitude are so important.

Courage and Information for Life with COPD is not only your map to learning, among other things, about finding a great specialist, taking breathing medications, using supplemental oxygen if needed, and finding help and support in your community. It is the story of a lady who has experienced the devastation of the diagnosis and not only lives, but thrives with COPD! Jo-Von Tucker's search for knowledge has helped her to move from the role of patient / victim to that of person / survivor. You must know that you do not have to face COPD alone! When reading Courage and Information you will surely say, That's me. Jo-Von's been through some of the same things that I'm going through.

There are so many things you can do to help yourself. Changed as it may be, you can live a rich and full life, even with COPD. Courage and Information willl help you find the way.

Great Spaniels Book
This book is funny and insightful, sad and true. I grew up in the late 50's and early 60's listening to many of these great groups. At the time you did not know that they were being mistreated and beaten out of so much, not just money but writer credits. This is a great book with many factual accounts of what happened to The Spaniels and this book could also echo the plight of many of the other great groups from this era. Hopefully they will now start to get the recognition that they so richly and rightfully deserve. Thank you for offering this book.

Hidden Value - How intellectual property know-how can make or break your business
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Derwent Information (05 March, 1999)
Authors: Meg Carter, Paul Gosling, and Richard Poynder
Amazon base price: $45.00
Average review score:

An invaluable, well researched but accessible guide to IP
'Hidden Value' is an excellent guide to IP, written for and from the perspective of business people who need to know the answers to a comprehensive range of questions, from 'What should my company be doing about its IP?' to 'What are the major differences between Patent Law in different jurisdictions across the globe?' It manages to provide an unusual balance between user-friendliness (it is engagingly written, amusingly illustrated, and takes examples from intriguing and colourful business histories) with a tremendously high degree of accuracy on technical matters of the law. Most comparable books fall between these two stools. I particularly enjoyed the practical case studies at the end of the book -- especially the story of how Dow Chemical saved large sums of money by active, preemptive management of its patent portfolio. The style of the volume is unusually elegant and precise, making it a pleasure to read as well as extremely useful, and the editor, Richard Poynder, has done an excellent job in integrating the chapters by different experts in the field including himself. If your company has any form of IP at all (and who doesn't these days?), then you neglect the publication of this fascinating and factually reliable guide at your peril.

Winning in The Game of Life
This book should be read not only by students but also by anyone who is still unsure about what they are doing and where they are going. It covers a wide range of topics and addresses serious issues that face especially the teens and young adults as they make a transition from school to society. These range from help with learning and time management to issues on sexual decisions and substance abuse. The layout and graphics make it appealing and easy to read. "Keys to Success" systematically takes student readers through their final years in schools and helps them to think seriously about their goals in school, their careers and ultimately their future lives. Coupled with questionnaires and written exercises, it really leads to greater self-awareness and confidence. I would recommend that parents of teenage children get this book for them and better still go through it with them, if their schools do not use it in their curriculum. Not only students, but anyone who still feels unsure of himself or herself could benefit from this book. We all have goals and dreams for our future. This book shows us how we can take charge and emerge winners in the game of life.

Judith Prest's book of poetry titled SAILING ON SPIRIT WIND----MIDLIFE REFLECTION S is a real treat for the poetry lover. Her images are strong and her voice is consistent and honest. She is unafraid to examine her life and share her insights in a unique and inspiring manner. I find this stance courageous as well as inspirational.

Lives up to its promise, Samba in 24 hours.
In a world of Linux How-To's and online documentation that is full of details, but short on explanation, Teach Yourself Samba in 24 Hours fills the void. The author goes beyond the configuration syntax to expain the details behind each setting, in a progressive and logical manner. I began the book after many attempts of configuring Samba, I finished with a working implimentation that I understand.

Readable and recommended.
Carter has written a readable book that covers Samba installation, step by step, while explaining the netbios and SMB protocols along the way. Each chapter has a "Q&A" session highlighting common questions and providing answers.

Most people will install Samba (including me), get it talking to Windows clients and then move on to something else. Carter continues, and even touches on getting Macs connected to Samba. The author also briefly covers installing and configuring SSL (encryption).

For individuals who don't have a lot of UNIX experience, I would say hands down, this is the best introductory book. This book is highly readable, aimed at the beginner.

Excellent book covering Samba and networking basics
Very well done... This is not only a good reference book it actually does help you setup samba step by step. The trouble shooting section is well done and the author covers alot of networking issues that you'll run into along the way.

I heard that O'Reilly has a similar book coming out, but it will most likely be harder to follow. This is written above the "For Dummies" level but not in the arcane O'Rielly style - fits nicely inbetween. Highly recommend it. :)
