Dry, but what did you expect?
Let's face it, you aren't buying the book because you want to. You are buying it because you must, either because you want to be a lawyer or perhaps because you need a nice heavy anchor for your boat (in which case I heartily recommend the Constitutional Law textbook).

As a resource, this book is fine, but certainly nothing special. Hopefully you had a professor who was engaging and articulate because the world of evidence, which can range from intriguing to downright frustrating in real life, is dull as dishwater on the written page. As with all law books, take what joy you can in the cases with interesting fact patterns and muddle through the rest. The progression of cases is logical and the commentaries insightful. You will find the book sufficiently clear, but you should consider purchasing a LegalLines or Nutshell companion publication to get you through the more complex sections.

If you are reading this book for pleasure and not because it is an assigned text, get help. Serious psychological help. From a doctor making a minimum of $300 per hour. After that, go out and purchase a book like "Federal Rules of Evidence in a Nutshell" (Nutshell Series) by Michael H. Graham. This type of book is much better at providing the type of quick overview in which a non-law student might be interested.
