I picked up this book to add to my classroom Halloween collection. It quickly became a favorite for my 3-4 year olds. I read it every day for the entire month, and they NEVER got sick of it. No matter how busy or loud they were when I began, they became silent when I brought out this book. And the classroom doesn't have to be the only setting for this book. I can see it being read to children at home as well. There is a surprise ending where the witch explodes. I just wanted to mention this, so if you buy this you would be expecting it. However, it is not at all what it sounds like (it really goes along with the story and is not even near as threatening as the Big Bad Wolf eating Red Riding Hood's Grandma). It was not at all scary or violent for the children I read it to. They seemed to understand the humor meant by the surprise ending. The repition is good for emerging talkers and emergent readers alike. The lift up flaps are fun for children as well.
