Excellent read!
Where is book three? Cant find anything on it anywhere. Same sentiments as other people - what happened to D.L.Carey???? and the third book? Does anyone know?

Where is D.L. Carey
I lied...I haven't read the book. However, I HAVE been in touch with Diane Carey, and she says that the publisher made the decision to abandon the trilogy due to some unrelated internal problems. She expressed that same disappointment that you all seem to; the series was very special to her. Count yourselves among the fortunate to have read the first two installments...I can't find them anywhere, despite my determination. In the meantime, Diane Carey also writes prolificly in the Star Trek genre. I imagine the very idea would put some people off, but I encourage you to give her Star Trek novels a try, particularly "First Frontier" and "The Great Starship Race". She is a genius with action sequences, and an emotional maestro. I doubt that anyone would be disappointed, and if you are a Star Trek fan, you will be overjoyed.

I loved this book and Distant Drums.
Rise Defiant, like Distant Drums, had me lost in the throes of American History. The characters seem real, and the events touchable. Hail Nation, the third in the trilogy was to be published in 1993, but never was. I am wondering why. I feel like I'm left hanging by a thread till I find out what has happened.

Trouble with Tribbles
Many have seen or may not have seen the orginal Star Trek, where these little creatures make there first appearance. Since that time, tribbles have been everywhere. The book & TV melds the orginal series with DS9 very well. In fact, the show on TV looks so good. Many have called this the best ever done. I call it GREAT...Read for your self.

Hilarious
Diane Carey strikes again.

This book is delightful to read. It is a must-read book.

You'll enjoy it because this novelization is more worth than the money paid for it.

You must read the book before seeing the episode.
The book is has some differeces toward the episode. So read it, then wath the episode. You'll see the differences

Great Book!
This book, number 2, was the most action-packed book of the series. Ben and Gordan don't like each other at first, but then, after being stuck in the collapsed building learn a lot from each other and get to be friends. This one Ben gets hurt too for those of you who have read this series before. Just to let you know.....don't be surprised if Ben gets hurt in every book!!

I Liked This Book
I really like this series but I was sort of hoping that Gordan and Lydia would get together I think they make a good couple. But I still really like this series of books. This was my favourite one of all 7 of them.

I couldn't even put it down!
I read all 7 books. This was definatly the best. The suspense is enough to keep the reader reading. It accuratly describes emotions, actions, & thoughts. I felt as if I were burried, when it was describing that part. Likewise I felt I was there with Barina when she was at the hospital with Lydia. I felt that this book was inspiring, uplifting, & helpful.I myself learned quite a great deal about emergency rescues. I was inspired to write my own book after reading this. I hope others will be able to find it as interesting, & attention grabbing as I. I read this book untill 4:30 in the morning. I just couldn't leave my friends where they were!

Ultimatly Cool
Hi! In my opinion this book is very realistic and very true to life. Twist of Fate and the other Distress Call 911 series books describes life as a medical trainee. In the chapter when Lydia's uncle explained Ben's internal injuries (all of which could happen in real life) I was crossing my fingers and hoping he would survive. Overall this book is really worth every cent. It's a great buy. Thanks! bye!

Great First Book!!
I have read all of these books!! Thisis my favorite series and I hope that DL Carey will make new ones... In this book they introduce Ben Varga, a new Yellowjacket, who is my favorite character. He is the funniest!! This book, out of all, was by far the saddest. If you read you will find out. Please...E-Mail me if you have any, any at all, more info on the series, DL Carey, or if you know if she's coming out with another or not!!

Superb.
I don't normally read historical novels. I picked this one up because somehow it got nominated for the libertarian Prometheus Award (which usually goes to science fiction.) I was very pleasantly surprised. The characters are vivid and original, the plotting interesting, and the storyline zings along like a first rate thriller. I particularly enjoyed the dialogue of the Dorien Trozen character -- he's like a character out of an Ayn Rand novel, with more dry wit. Be forewarned, however, that this is the first book of a trilogy, the third book of which was never published. Ms. Carey, can't you find another publisher for Hail Nation? Check out publishing opportunities at pulpless.com -- you could publish over the Internet, cheap. We're dying out here.

A great Omnibus for a great series!
"Infection" by John Gregory Betancourt

The Enterprise is called to Archaria III, a planet jointly colonized by humans and Peladians. A new disease has cropped up and is only treatable (the double helix), in a temporary fashion. The Enterprise supposed to deliver the drug, quarantine the planet and see what help they might render. What follows is an excellent story, primarily using Dr. Crusher in her quest to find the cure. The author set everything up very well and wrapped up his portion beautifully.

"Vectors" by Dean Wesley Smith & Kristin Kathryn Rusch

Finally we have a story using Dr. Pulaski, who was unceremoniously dumped from the show. Not that she was anywhere near a replacement for Dr. Crusher. It is particularly interesting to see "Terok Nor" during the occupation and have the interaction with Gul Dukat. I felt the character development was very good and the Ferengi portions were written very well. The only true complaint is that the author's seemed to have done a poor job of closing out Kira's story.

"Red Sector" by Diane Carey

Red Sector is a fantastic story. It's very refreshing having a book that concentrates almost primarily on a non main character in John Eric Stiles. The character is extremely well thought out and written. The author nailed Spock and a hundred and thirty something Dr. McCoy perfectly. I'm dying to find out who the voice is at this point. Hopefully the next three in the Double Helix series will be as good as this one and the other two were.

"Quarantine" by John Vornholt

John Vornholt kicks out another fantastic story. Quarantine gives us a good idea of how "Tom Riker" ends up joining the Maquis. As is par for the course with John Vornholt, he goes into great detail describing a beautiful planet and all of its surroundings. Not a lot of Trek authors do that. I thought Torres seemed a little soft, considering her personality, but that can be explained away.

"Double or Nothing" By Peter David

This is another great installment to the New Frontier and the Double Helix series. Not having read the last of the Double Helix books yet, it seems that this one pretty much finishes the Double Helix storyline???? A favorite quote from the book, Riker - "I've got to get off this ship." Peter David did an excellent job of integrating Picard and Riker into the New Frontier. It's really interesting and well done how he brought Riker and Shelby together again. That portion was done very well and even better than I'd expected in another meeting of those two.

"The First Virtue" by Michael Jan Friedman & Christie Golden

The First Virtue is an excellent conclusion. It pretty much wraps up the reasoning to everything we learned in "Double or Nothing." In the First Virtue, we learn why Gerrid Thul wanted to create the Double Helix virus and why he wanted so much revenge for the loss of his only child. Both authors did a great job with their portions. The plot is well thought out, especially the portions of the book with Commander Jack Crusher and Lieutenant Tuvok. I felt that they captured Tuvok's personality quite well and gave a precursor to some of the decisions and general personality we saw on screen in Voyager.

Overall, I would recommend this Omnibus to any fan of good Star Trek fiction.

The most beautiful words of wisdom written
My Husband gave me this book because my old signed copy by Howard Ray Carey is in threads by now and I LOVE the book SO much. For almost 20 years "Journey Into light and Joy" has spoken to me. I have read it over and over, inside out --- and upside down. The book has been "My Bible" for all those years. Every morning after awakening, I just open the book to a page which is my message for the day. I am so grateful and thankful to Howard Ray Carey for having written such pearls of wisdom.

I enjoyed this book very much!
While this book is not my personal favorite out of the series it is as entertaining as the others. Lydia is on duty in ER when the Tigers rookie pitcher West Rideout is brought in with an injury to his precious arm. Lydia consoles him as this is her job. West however is smitten with her and joins Ben and Gorden in the competition for her affections (Much to their disgust). Like the others in the series it is hard to put down untill you are finished!

I Really Liked This Book
I reallly liked this book but inside the book the person that Barina is trying to help name is Sally Cavanagh not Rita Cullen like on the back. I just wanted to say (or rather type) that because confused me for a while but know i figured it must be a misprint. Well I still liked this book
