Amazingly comprehensive subject material
This is a tremendous book for those interested in Christian counseling. I already own one; I'm buying another for my father who is a pastoral counselor. I am currently a counseling graduate student at John Brown University and the variety of subject material that this book covers is simply amazing. It is by far my favorite counseling book, and I have read dozens. It does not knock science, as unfortunately some Christian counseling theorists do. It recognizes scientific truths, while remaining true to the Bible.

Outstanding and comprehensive study of general psychology
From the physical basis to counseling modalities, this is the obvious textbook of choice for schools desiring to teach psychology from a Christian viewpoint. This is great for upper division high school or a general course for college students.

Surveys introductory psychology with a Christian perspective

Zachary's New Home: A Story for Foster and Adopted Children
Published in Hardcover by Magination (1991)
Authors: Paul B. Blomquist, Margo Lemieux, and Geraldine Molettiere Blomquist
Amazon base price: $11.95

Great Story, Not So Great Book
Read all the other reviews for the story context. It is a good story HOWEVER it is all black and white. This book could of been so much better with a little imagination and color. I was extremely disappointed to find the pictures gray, dull and lifeless. This book would be so much better with colorful pictures and text.

Difficult subject, well dealt with
The story of the little kitten, who's daddy disappears, and Mummy is bad to him, is well written and non judgemental. The kitten is taken away from his birth mother and fostered, then adopted into a family of Swans, who love him. The book tells about the kitten's confusion and feelings of loss, and has a happy ending when the adoptive parents re-state their love for him.

This book is relevant for children who have been removed from a birth parent's home, not for children adopted after being orphaned or abandoned, and the picture of the scary Mum will probably introduce the wrong message about their birth parents.

Fabulous for adopting a child through the foster care system
This book clearly explains the child coming into foster care and then being adopted. Great for children who were adopted though the foster care system.

a life changing book
I consider this book one of the best books I have ever read. It really helped me see how I was hurting myself by being caught up in the patterns of my family. It really helped me understand what a relationship wtih Christ was about. I also recommend "Boundaries" I have given a number of copies of this book away.

This book started the upswing!
After finally realizing that I was this thing called "codependent," I began to read all the well known titles so that I could be "codependent no more." They were helpful in that they oriented me to this new concept and defined it...gave me something to think about. Then one day five years ago I happened on "Love is a Choice." I read it voraciously! I put it inside other books as I sat through classes in nursing school. I underlined, I highlighted, I read passages over and over that set fire alarms off in my head! I came to Amazon to see if I could still buy it because I have physically worn mine out. This book was life changing, and gave me a foundation to make profound progress in my recovery. Now I go back and read my journal from years ago and can't believe I was ever that person.

"Love is a Choice" is one of the best choices I've ever made
In a state of depression and desparation I felt an overwhelming urge to drive to [a bookstore] in search of help. I didn't even know what I was looking for. I did know my search would defintely begin in the "Self-help" section. I picked up several books on relationships and read the backs of them. The third one I picked up was "Love is a Choice", and when I read the back I started to cry. It was like divine intervention because I had only heard the term "codependent - I didn't know exactly what it meant and certainly didn't know that it applied to me. Boy, did it ever. This book was such an eye opener for me and truly has changed my life. I know I have a long way to go in the healing process (maybe a lifetime), but now I have hope and the power of knowledge on my side. The greatest (and most unexpected) benefit of reading this book was that it helped me to get to know God - someone I didn't think knew me or loved me. I am so thankful that this book was written, and that there are people with the knowledge, experience, and expertise out there willing to work hard to make a happy and healthy life a reality for so many of us. Thank you!

Total Hip Replacement (THR) Surgery and You

Good effort but did nothing for me.
Having just had my hip replaced one week ago I thought this book was too silly. An 80 year old in rehab might get a kick out it's attempt at humor but a 40 year old with a wife and 3 children trying to make it on disability needs alittle more insight on the real life mental aspects of hip replacement surgery. Paul's description of his days in the hospital were accurate but over dramatized. I believe a woman giving birth has it tougher that a hip replacement patient. But on the plus side reading this book may have inspired me to write my own book.

VERY disapointing
I found the "yellow" pages of the book (which were the majority) to be vacuous and not humorous at all. In fact, I found much of it offensive.. The "white" pages were somewhat informative, but why write a book on this subject and say things like "but I will spare you the details of that" .... I want the details before I have the surgery !

Informative and funny
Finding simularities between the book and my own experiences gave me a smile to my face more than once. Why live with the pain as I had both of mine replaced as soon as I could. Paul gave a lighter side to the operation and recovery. The book was, I believe, to give one persons experience with total hip replacement and was not to be the "do it yourself" type book that some wanted it to be.
