Well-researched and insightful
This book tells well of a brilliant student, high in the ranks of his class at harvard Law, law clerk to Justice Frankfurter, holding responsible positions in the Government in wartime Washington, who by an unbelievably reckless and stupid act destroyed his career, then , after years of struggle redeemed himself before his death in 1984. This is a most worthwhile read for anyone interested in the law or in Kentucky politics,or in the shakers and movers in Washington in the 1940s.

Excellent study of a failed genius
In this accessible, informative biography, Campbell presents the tragic story of one of the brightest stars on the 20th century American political scene. A man of acknowledged genius, fragile ego, and an almost childlike attitude, Prichard was seen by many as the most gifted and promising of the new generation of liberal politicians that arose out of the New Deal. Though his hopes for political office were ended by J. Edgar Hoover's irrational vendetta against him, Campbell makes it clear that the person who ultimately brought about Prichard's downfall was Prichard himself. This is an excellent book about the lofty heights and tragic depths that a man could sink to, and I highly recommend it to any history buff or political wonk.

Tremendous book for lovers of political intrigue
If you enjoy real stories about real people with all their human faults, you will enjoy this book written about a real man and and his experiences in the political world. It shows the strengths and weaknesses of humans that all of us can relate to. Perseverance is the name of the game in this book, as well as the art of manipulating people for personal gain. Illegitimata non tatum carborundum really shines through. It is difficult to put down once started.

Read it over and over and over
I have read this wonderful book many many times to my 2 year old grandson. I finish reading it and he wants it read again. We are on our 6th week of checking it out at the library. I will probably purchase this book. The words flow like a song and he is getting to the point where when it says "the cow looked at me and the cow said ___" he fills in the "moo" part. The illustrations are equally as good. There is so much detail and objects to see that it takes many readings to take note of all of the details. I enjoy reading it as much as he enjoys listening. We are currently searching for other books by this author.

A wonderful book for young readers and young non-readers
This book is fun a rhythemic. My one year old daughter loves when I read it to her. She puts her fingers on my lips and just watches my mouth move in amazement. It is a book you can read over and over again.

Rhythmic text & picture hints -- great for pre-readers!
Predictable repetitive rhyming text begs for a child to participate. Large colorful illustrations hint provide hints for what comes next. A great book for the younger set, not to mention a little humor for the adult reader.

Best Rock and Mineral Book I've EVER Seen!
I am a retired engineer and life-long mineral collector, and I own or have read dozens of books on the subject. I also volunteer at our local elementary school, and take every opportunity to teach the kids about minerals and let them handle my specimens. This is by far the most interesting presentation of rocks and minerals I have ever ever had the pleasure of reading. Every page is filled with superb photos and/or very realistic 3D color illustrations.

All of the text is broken up into bite-size paragraphs that are easy to digest, yet comprehensive enough that even experienced adults will find something new on each page. The pictures/diagrams and shorter paragraphs should be of much interest to ages 9 and 10, with full enjoyment for ages 11 to 100!

The origin of rocks and minerals, ie., geology, and how rocks and minerals are used in our daily lives, are heavily emphasized, and for me this is what makes learning in this field so fascinating. I will use this book in my teaching for years to come, and many of my friends will receive it as a gift. Thank you Tracy Staedter for a true work of art.

The Baby Merchants-A poignant insight, excellent read!
New Novel Reveals Forced Prostitution and Baby Sales
Each year, thousands of Vietnamese girls are sold into slave labor, only to become 'Srey Kouc,' prostitutes. They have no choice. The money received from such transactions will keep their families alive for one more season. The Baby Merchants by Leonie Campbell tells their story.

Drawn from the author's experience of living among the Vietnamese, The Baby Merchants provides a poignant insight into the social structure of Vietnam. Though a compelling novel, the book also explores the very real and devastating trials faced by the people of Vietnam, particularly women and children.

Campbell brings these disturbing facts into vivid focus, guiding her readers into the Vietnamese plight and offering hope through the caring concern of a select group of individuals. This realistic novel may shock some readers with its accounts of injustice and the ineptness of the political system to improve the conditions of Vietnam's people.

'This novel opens your eyes to a world of corruption that we are unaware of in Western society. The adoption racket, selling babies to foreigners, is heartbreaking. A learning experience beautifully portrayed by the author,' proclaims Monica Holt.
Terri Hayes ...

A story of justice and truth!
This book has a sad but powerful story to tell. The author obviously knows her subject well and the problems within Vietnam.I traveled to Hanoi, Vietnam in 1999 and can understand the influence of the people, the countryside and the culture.
I recommend this book to other readers.

This is a touching story about the adoption and orphanages of Vietnamese children. This book contains the hardship of American women who try to help Vietnamese orphanages and villages and try to help stop the selling of children on the Black Market. It shows the importance that Vietnam has on male children and the country's political issues, i.e. the importance of money. It shows how poorly the children are kept in the orphanages and what adoptive parents have to go through in order to adopt children.
Ms. Campbell does a tremendous job in balancing the issues of Vietnam. She creates emotion for the reader through the experiences of the American women in the orphanages. The book is well written and is appreciated by the reader. The reader will not be confused by the politics of Vietnam. The plotline is well put together and moves throughout the story. The character development is good.
If you enjoy reading about Vietnam or international adoptions, pick up a copy of this book. It shows what could possibly happen over in Vietnam and what could happen on the Black Market with Vietnamese children.

Well written- great read!

Angels of Saigon-Highly recommended
Set in post-war Vietnam, ANGELS OF SAIGON by Leonie Campbell is a true account that exposes the difficult lives, full of anguish and misery that the women and children of Saigon must endure.Thi Kim, the main character in ANGELS OF SAIGON, lives the life of actual women in Vietnam. Her story involves one woman's strength of mind to triumph over the sorrow of losing ones family, being raped, imprisonment in an adult establishment, and risky encounters with crooked officials all while trying to save the children of Saigon, not to mention, fighting for her own freedom. This book comes complete with a "Related Articles" section, where readers can read quotes about this subject matter collected from various newspapers and magazines.I enjoyed reading Ms. Campbell's book even though it brought me to tears more than once. I found myself thinking about the characters while doing the dishes or watching TV.The descriptions of the characters, and surroundings was superbly written in vivid detail and I felt that the dialogue was both intriguing and realistic.Jennifer Leese reviewer AStoryweaver

No Dogs Allowed
Cutler, Jane. No Dogs Allowed. (1992). New York: Farrar Straus Giroux.

No Dog Allowed is a great family book, based on sibling rivalries. Jason, the oldest brother fined his younger brother, Edwards's action absurd. Such as the time Edward pretended to be a dog or made friends with the biggest guy in fourth grade. Jason just wants to feel older and to be cool, but with Edward around he finds this hard to do. This book could be read aloud to children 8 to 11. If you like humor's children stories this is the book for you.
