Evangelicals take note!
As an evangelical, I am suprised that others of my persuasion have not discovered the treasure chest of beauty and devotion in Christian poetry. I consider it truely sublime and find reading it slowly and quietly to be a fountain of great devotional interest. I keep this volume on the shelf next to my bed and turn to it often.

This anthology in particular is an outstanding introduction to the excellence and beauty of Christian poetry. Buy it and read it slowly and prayerfully. Max Lucado is fine but sometimes it's good to think outside the box. Give this a try.

Evangelicals take note!
As an evangelical Christian, I continue to wonder why many evangelicals have not discovered Christian poetry for the treasure storehouse that it has always been in the English speaking world. This book is a feast to the mind as well as the spirit and is the perfect introduction to Christian poetry for the thoughtful Christian.

Max Lucado is fine but do yourself a favor and step outside the box. Buy it and read it slowly, carefully, thoughtfully and prayerfully.

From Their Lips to God's Ear
This anthology of poetry will serve as an excellent introduction to those unfamiliar with the genre or as a source of refreshing inspiration to those who know the works.

The book, broken into 12 chapters covering various time periods, offers all sorts of Christian poetry over roughly 1,200 years, from early Anglo-Saxon writings up to 20th Century works.

Authors are introduced with short biographies, as are the time periods to help readers get a sense of how language and religious poetic thought developed. The range of material is amazing, from works predating the Venerable Bede to Madeline L'Engle's plea to God to learn how to pray, written as she rode a New York City bus.

I found this to be a beautiful collection of value to anyone interested in Christian thought and prayer.

TOPS IN TERROR
If you've a taste for terror filled tales you'll find the best of them on this recent release from Harper Audio Books. Included are such tried and true classics as Dracula, Frankenstein, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, The Flying Dutchman, and The Ghost Ship.

Performances are delivered by masters of the genre:Vincent Price chillingly reads The Gold Bug, while the unforgettable voice of James Mason renders selections from Frankenstein.

There's not a ghost of a chance that you won't enjoy these spooky, spectral stories.

Great for October
I got this for my kids who are 2 and 5. They love it but so did I. It is realy ment for a man my age (37) because it covers some of the great writings of the horror genre. The usage of the English language is so eliquint that I can not help but wonder how we as a society could be so rich in invention yet have sunk so low in our comand of the English language. This audio CD was great and I recomend it to all who want a taist of early horror stories.

Stunning.
I didn't want to believe that the theme of this book was "Monster Begets Monster" but that's exactly what it is, to me. The book is most certainly about a serial killer, but with none of the usual intrusion of police investigative themes. No real forensics. The absence of this, surprisingly, did not take away from the strength of the book. It is most certainly a hunt for the killer, but the hunter is not the usual hunter featured in such stories. For certain, this is a study in trauma; a unique look at victimology.

Add to this vivid scenery of English countrysides and fishing villages, careful character planning, and almost effortless plot development, and this book is most definately a stunner.

If you don't read this one, you're mad.

A wordy classic
This book is full of short stories written by Beatrix Potter. I enjoyed reading the book very much. The stories were always adventurous. However, I found that the stories might be a little to lengthy for children to sit through (unless it is time for bed). The author of these stories is telling children that even though getting into mischief is fun at the time, it is not the best choice to make. Especially in the case of Peter Rabbit when his siblings get to eat gooseberries and milk and he has to eat beet stew because he is sick from getting into trouble. This shows children that there is a price for getting into trouble.

Excellent Collection Replaced by Larger One!
This excellent collection of five Beatrix Potter stories has obviously been replaced with the larger collection read by Claire Bloom, "Tales by Beatrix Potter." My school library owns the title viewed here, but we will undoubtedly upgrade to the newer collection whenever it's available in CD. Listening to Beatrix Potter in Bloom's crystal clear British accent is THE way to hear these delightful, and classic, stories!

Chaos
I originally thought that it would be great to have these poets on a digitized CD format. I now want to re-evaluate my thinking. After 8 hours of looking up poems, I know the table of contents is wrong. The selections by Cummings are not correct and I don't know the right titles. The Spender poem is wrong and I don't know the title. The May Sarton poem is not on the CD at all. After 30 yrs you'd think that Harper Collins could at least identify the poems and poets properly. What a poor way to represent great poets!!!!

Not bad...the joy is in listening.
The joy of this collection is listening to the poetry being read by the author. You can always read to yourself, but hearing how the poet interprets the poem is something special. Find a nice quiet place, relax and enjoy.
