MORE THAN JUST A BOOK ABOUT A MAN
I loved this book. It was an inspiring and delightful time spent viewing the photos and reading about this man's life. I ended the book with the feeling it was more than just a book about Billy Graham - it was a book of history. Mr. Graham has touched the lives of countless people, but has also had the opportunity to meet with more heads of state and influential people than most public officials. The pictures and commentary were indeed a trip through history. Billy Graham is a true public servant as well as a preacher. What a great gift has been given to this man of God!

IT WAS CAPTIVATING
This book covered everything I could hope for on this man who has been voted one of the most admired and influentuel men of the last century.I loved the photos as well as the commentary by himself and from so many other sources. It was inspiring and informative. My husband and I were competing for our chance to enjoy the book. Should have bought two copies!

A Busby Berkeley Spectacular!
The "Berkeleyesque" dance number is one that "depends on sheer spectacle, on the deployment of hordes of chorus dancers in a grandiose setting." Ever since I became aware of Busby Berkeley's spectacular musical productions during a film history course in college 20 years ago, I've longed for a comprehensive look at his films and career. Showstoppers is the Berkeley Bible!

Showstoppers is divided into three parts, the first of which describes Berkeley's inimitable style, the elements that distinguish his work from others, and it's roots. Part II looks at his Broadway theater career during the second half of the 1920s. The meat of the story is presented in Part III, comprising 3/4 of the book, which describes in 7 chapters his cinema career spanning from 1930 to 1962. Each of his films is examined and includes references to the photos which are presented in two groups.

Showstoppers contains 248 pages of text plus 62 pages of production still photos of Berkeley's numbers. Although the black and white photos are not enlargements of actual frames from the films, they depict real sets and actors and, in some cases, show production equipment not visible in the film such as camera tracks in one instance. They are professionally lit, well printed and the captions informative. I highly recommend this book to any Berkeley buff, film fan, or lover of the musical spectacle on film.

Track of the Wild Otter
Published in Paperback by Colin Baxter Photography (1989)
Authors: John Busby and Hugh Miles
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

Incredible pictures, diary format limits usefulness a bit.
Hugh Miles describes his two years filming wild river otters on the Scottish coast. The photography which illustrates this book must be seen to be believed, and captures the northern Scottish terrain as well as the otters who are the subject of the book. The text of the book is truly an equal to the pictures in both detail and feel, although the format of the book as a diary of his years there does make for occasional very slow passages, and limits the utility of the book as a reference on otter behavior. All the information on otter behavior an amateur naturalist could need can be found in this book, but not easily. However, the pictures, accuracy, mood and detail of the book more than make up for this, and it is so engaging that an interested reader probably will become completely absorbed in it. After I checked this one out of the library I kept renewing it until the copy I ordered finally arrived in the mail; I couldn't stand to part with it.
