Very explicit and easy to use
This is the book I used to make my very first quilt. It takes you through all steps of making a quilt - buying fabric (all the measurements needed for a size are printed on one page), cutting fabric, and the assembly line method used for assembling the blocks is very easy to figure out and efficient - just make sure you sew straight! :)

All of the instructions are very clear and the large amounts of pictures are especially helpful. I would highly recommend this to a beginner quilter.

It may seem somewhat expensive since it is only one pattern, but the Quilt in a Day series is so user-friendly I find it well worth the price.

A "Must Have" book for beginning quilters.
I never cared for the log cabin design until I saw this book. The colors and the different ways you can put the log cabin design together to acquire different effects is excellent. This books explains everything from measuring, fabric choice, yardage needed and cutting, sewing the blocks, putting the quilt together, borders and backing, to binding and finishing the quit. This book explains all the tools needed and how to use them. The best illustrations I've ever seen and so clear and easy to follow. This book is a must for beginners, as well as for people like me who taught myself and picked up some bad habbits.

Make A Quilt in a Day: Log Cabin Pattern
Thank you Eleanor! I knew next to nothing about quilting before purchasing this book. As a beginner, I needed something quick & easy to give me confidence and get me started. This book is superbly written for the beginner; simple, clear, & precise directions with color photos. From the shopping list to the 1,2,3 directions, this book a beginners must have. Even though I don't think a beginner can make this quilt in a day, I made my very first quilt (Lap Robe size) in two days.

Darkness Visible
Published in Paperback by Harcourt (1985)
Author: William Golding
Amazon base price: $8.95
Used price: $1.73
Collectible price: $3.12
Average review score:

A wildly imaginative parable about madness and terrorism.
Golding is in top form in this story about the gradual descent into terrorism by twin siisters; and an unlikely "savior" that comes in the form of a man deformed by a bombing raid. Again, Golding proves that creating a mystery amidst thoughtful social critcism leads to a great and imaginiative story. It is dark, strange and stays with you for weeks.

An excellent perspective on how to rate the value of life
Golding's vision of mans dark side and how the fight between good and evil is won by restraint.

In order to get the whole picture the reader needs to submerge into the lifes of all the characters and then pull back away from it all. First then it is possible to see the story and how it unfolds. It is complex and requires patience but the reward is worth it and can be rather refreshing.

I do recommend it

Solid biblical reference
This book is an easy to use reference book which pulls together the various renderings of the content of Chronicles in other Biblical books. There are charts which succinctly show the emphasis of particular accounts by charting the number of verses in particular books spent on the history of specific individuals. The book makes it easy to study the historical period covered by Chronicals as a single unit rather than the hop-scotching that reading the Bible straight through provides.

Highly recommended for anyone studying Chronicles - whether you call it Tanak or Old Testament.

Simply the best volume ever written on the Presidency....
Accessible, well-written, and utterly compelling history is loaded with facts and dates, but more than that, this book places each president in the context of his times. Therefore, we come to understand the era itself; with the policies, debates, and legal questions fully explored.

The title of the book could have been: Read this if you....
Want to know why you are unhappy at work. OBTW this is Richard writing this...I am a Family Physician and I understand family systems. The foundation of the work compares organizational dysfunction to family dysfunction. It is a rational and easy to read book. It helped me understand the dynamics of my workplace and realize I needed to leave my job! Don't get me wrong....this is not the advise of the author. Once understanding the workplace is covered there are survival tips. For me I came to the conclusion there is little chance of recovery for the organization I worked with. A must read book for managers, owners and employees who want to grow and become healthier.

Recollections of the 4th Missouri Cavalry
Published in Hardcover by Morningside Bookshop (1995)
Author: William S. Burns
Amazon base price: $20.00
Average review score:

An Excellent First-Hand Civil War Account
Hoping to find a legitimate, detailed personal account of life in the Union Army, this book easily met my expectations - and more! This book will appeal to anyone interested in Civil War history in general and the 4th Missouri Cavalry in particular. However, it is not written in a dry historical style but in a vibrant, true to life form that includes both anectdote and reflection. In a very real sense you are transported back in time to experience life as a Union Cavalryman, although the book focuses less on the details of camp life and much more on the battles and how battle decisions were made. I have found quotes from this book in many other books and articles about this period, so Capt. Burns' experiences and recollections are considered both credible and quoteworthy. Riding along with the Calvary through Pea Ridge and other significant battles of the Civil War, you will find this account captivating and informative if you have any interest at all in true life historical accounts or in Civil War research of any type.

Error on page
The age range is not 4-8. Its for teenagers/adults. I tried fixing this in corrections, but age range wasn't listed as one of the things you could correct. Its a great book, of course, but I'm a little prejudiced.

An essential guide for anyone facing life's challenges
When Dreams Don't Work is a most wonderful and essential guide for anyone facing life's challenges, sadness, and disappointment. The authors help us understand our very natural responses to burn out and most major perceived setbacks and dilemmas. I recommend this to every manager, investor, and thinking citizen, and to everyone entering the challenging stages of middle age and senior status. My only wish is that I had read this book during my college years, as its guidance is truly magnificent.

Interesting, entertaining, and all around satisfying
I enjoyed this book completely...it really gave me a sense of the human experience of the journey, and made me appreciate just what an incredible accomplishment it was. The illustrations really add to the enjoyment of the book, as do the excerpts from the journals of several of the men. I also liked the background information on what goals were actually behind the exploration and how they worked to meet those goals. There's only one reason that I didn't give this book 5 stars, and that's because it lacks a good map to help understand where they were during some of the events described. But that can be found in other works, and this really is a good introducion to Lewis and Clark...it's a relatively easy read but full of interesting facts and adventures.

Wonderful
I give high praise to this book and this reading. You will learn so much about the journey, and you'll feel the cold of the winters and the wonderment of their adventures. Taken from their actual journals, this book is even better than "Undaunted Courage". p.s. the unabridged is even better.

Simply Amazing
This audio is a great telling of this amazing journey. Any history buff should order this and play it over and over. The facts of the ride and the aftermath of the characters will leave you in awe.

King Henry VI (3rd Series, Part 1)
Published in Paperback by Arden Shakespeare (04 May, 2000)
Authors: Edward Burns and William Shakespeare
Amazon base price: $13.95
Used price: $11.50
Average review score:

Part 3 and still running strong!
This is not quite as good as 1 or 2, but it is still excellent! Shakespeare grabs us with the dispute between Henry VI and York. While it seems to end peacefully it does not, and the war goes on! York's death in 1.4 is another landmark in Shakespeare's writing. The scene (2.5) where Henry finds true terror is horror, sorrow, and yet beauty and yet another moving part of the play. (The son that hath killed his father and the father that hath killed his son.) The war pauses in disaster for Henry and some comic relief is offered. But the horror starts all over again when Edward IV and Warwick have a falling out. The war starts over again, and the King of France gets involved! The scene where King Henry VI is reinstated is a scene of beauty and hope. While all of this is happening, Shakespeare carefully prepares the monstrously satanic character of Richard III. From here, the play just gets more and more bloody. A final moment of horror is offered when the eventual Richard III proudly compares himself to the one who betrayed Christ. In part 4 "Richard III," the real terror begins!

Not A Single Complaint!
This was one of Shakespeare's earliest plays. (possibly his third) Yet, there is nothing to indicate he was only starting out. Right away he grabs our attention with the funeral of King Henry V. Henry V's brothers Bedford and Gloucester help us to see the virtues and strengths of the deceased king. The Bishop of Winchester is well drawn as a comical villain who plots and plans, but never succeeds in doing any real damage. (Not until the next play anyway.) Talbot is memorable as the selfless hero of the play. York is memorable as the hero who defeats Joan of Arc. King Henry VI himself is interesting. First we see him as a helpless infant. By the third act, we see that he has both strengths and weaknesses. He makes the mistake of dividing the command between the rivals Somerset and York. But also, we see that he does not tolerate treason or neglect of duty. There are also many memorable scenes. The garden scene that foreshadows the War of the Roses is well drawn. The scene where York comforts his dying uncle is tragic beauty. Bedford's death in 3.2 has almost a divine tone. The death of Talbot and his son is very lamentable. York's sudden rise to power is captivating. Perhaps Shakespeare's greatest achievement in this play is that he simultaneously shows us England's war with France and the dissension with England itself.
