...but I LIKE the Clash!!
A British history of punk, written as the history was being made. The authors went out of their way to try and be offensive and audacious, though their most pointed barbs are aimed at American rockers like the New York Dolls and Johnny Thunders who were better at being junkies than they were at toeing the line as "true punks". The Clash, the Damned, the Stranglers and pretty much everyone who wasn't the Sex Pistols get similar treatment. This is chatty and snide; just the book to curl up with at home on a rainy day, sipping tea while your old Iggy albums wreck another phonograph needle.
Nice Front Page Hatchet Job, John
This is singularly the most important and stridently semtexed analysis of the Punk Rock genesis in the late 1970s. It is completely scurrilous, vicious, nasty, alienated, cataclysmic, sinister. It belts along at a blistering pace, executing an absolute demolition job on poseurs like The Clash, The Jam and Iggy Pop and a triumphalist proclamation of the Sex Pistols and X-Ray specs as the real royalty of their generation . Parsons and Burchill have nothing good to say about anybody, but have a special contempt for Americans. What more could you want? Buy this and put it on eBay for 100 dollars as a Rock and Roll eSwindle.

For the Royal Family, the truth hurts--OUCH!
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned! Julie Burchill speaks for every woman--and Princess Diana was "Everywoman"--in her scathing account of one sweet soul done wrong by her in-laws. "Diana" is absolutely the most hilarious book ever written about the Royal Family and one of the most pathetically sad stories of what they did to one of their own. For those of us who never met Princess Diana, yet still count her among our friends, we cheer every word written here. I enjoyed it even more on the second reading and I'm going for a third!
Well done Julie Birchill!!! Brilliant!!
I read Diana, by Julie Birchill, when I was vacationing in London. I was so thrilled to read Ms.Birchill's book, as it gave me an insight to Diana and her life that was just not available from any other royal biographer. Julie Birchill wove a marvelous trail of descriptives that held my interest throughout the book. This book was thought provoking and easily brought the reader through the most devasting of scenerios, soothing and shocking the reader at the same time. Words cannot describe my delight with this brilliant authors talent. M.J.Summers Clarion, Pennsylvania
A superb, evocative portrait of Diana and The Royal Family
An excellent read. DIANA is incisive, sympathetic, and gives the reader the most well-rounded description of The Queen, Prince Charles, and even Lady Fermoy's selfishness and coldness and how that stilted behavior affected this valiant young woman. No-one is spared the veil of illusion, yet at all times we feel for the beleagured young woman who had the best of intentions... The book shows us that glamour does not make up for love that is not forthcoming, and how valuable England's Rose truly was to all of us, and why. It is indeed a requiem, an "unfinished sympathy" to our revered Queen of Hearts. An accurate and worthwhile book.

How I learned to stop worrying and love Julie Burchill
The Guardian letters page on Saturdays is regularly filled by outraged proclomations from those offended by Julie's latest column. Her targets are widespread and her arguments fantastically inconsistent. She manages to make you actually think about many things you take for granted after being bombarded by the British media, Bosnia - how did the Serbs suddenly become intrinsically evil?, actors - what do they do? why? etc. Whilst much of it may sometimes seem like the easy baiting of unsuspecting Liberals she manages to ask questions that undermine accepted thinking - for example, why is it considered outrageous to chant racist remarks at a footballer,(she does not condone this) but when the same footballer allegedly beats up his girlfiend it all becomes a bit more complicated and people start to wring their hands and think up excuses? It's not comfortable, but it's usually funny and thought provoking. She's in a league of her own in terms of newspaper columnists, the main reason being that she can actually write.

Thoroughly unenjoyable author
Julie Burchill is one of the most least informed, arrogant and unprofessional columnists and authors in this world. Her character is utterly sadistic and shows signs of manic depression. Her comments on how bad other people look are so ridiculous when you consider the fact that her appearance resembles that of an over-weight and hairy Greek prostitue.
They were so good together!
The whole storyline was pretty... , but Matt seemed like such a sweet guy! I mean, in the blurb it goes " Nicoles met her Mr Right"! Oh and there was that really cute bit where she described how they kissed, how sexy was that?!?!
One really bad thing about the book was all the rascist comments. It doesn't matter if she follows it up by saying " I'm not a rascist". Doesn't she realize how stupid it sounds?
