Finally Some Answers
I have exhaused to internet, the bookstores, and the libraries searching for information. Of all the books that I have encountered, this book is the most comprehensive with the most information. I also was able to contact the Doctors directly which I thought was great. They answer questions are are even willing to speak to other doctors. Bottom line... if your're experiencing sexual dysfunction, don't give up ladies. There's hope, and these two women are making it happen!

Lets hear it for the Berman sisters
This is an improved version of the hardcover, which was also amazing. A great resource.

Thank you , Thank You
If it weren't for Drs. Jennifer and Laura Berman, their book and their fantastic show, I'm not sure what I would do. They have helped me soooo much in terms of my relationship, my sexual function, and my life. I owe them my hapiness!! I'm waiting anxiously for book number 2.

editing needed
My main impression of this book is that it would have made an excellent (long) magazine article or series. It seriously needed some editing to hit the highlights instead of going on and on with details. For instance, the whole storyline of the trees being razed for a parking lot, and the way the author could never fully understand it, was quite tedious. That being said, I did read an advance copy of the book, so it may have improved before publication. (I still think it would have been better as an article)

This book does provide a great peek into an ordinary life, and I've come away with a different view of certain aspects of Japan. I was surprised to learn of how the teenagers fight with their parents, and dismayed to see how much time the Japanese man spends at work instead of with his family (or anything else, for that matter).

This books paints a truely accurate picture of Japanese.
After having lived in Japan for almost twenty years it was a pleasure to read The Secrets of Mariko. Most books portray the Japanese with an overdose of stereotypes and generalizations so people who are not familiar with Japan can get innacurate ideas. By interviewing Mariko and her family and acquaintances in depth, the author of this book managed to come up with a fairly accurate portrayal of modern Japanese life. @@Even though the interviews took place in the early 1990's@and Japan has changed since then, a reader can get a pretty good idea of what life is like for many Japanese families today. Mariko's family situation is, of course their own and is unique in many ways. The family's attitudes and ideas, however are not unique. If a reader wants to get a good understanding on modern Japanese life this is an excellent book to read. @

Window into another lifestyle
This book provides glimpses of the lifestyle of an average Japanese housewife. Written by a journalist rather than an anthropologist, the author explores the life and important events of Mariko over the course of a year. Through the author's interviews, we learn the history of the family and the views of Mariko, her husband and children on such topics as family life, parenting, and work. As a journalist, Bumiller is quite interested in Japanese opinions and attitudes about current events, so Mariko and her family explain some of their complex feelings about the U.S. We visit the children's schools and work places, and see where they go on vacation. Along the way, Bumiller also interviews prominent Japanese who are in some way connected to aspects of Mariko's life, such as politicians, the head of the mob, and a talk show host. By the end of the book, readers are familiar with many details of average Japanese family life, something that would be unattainable unless one were to either grow up in Japan or live for long enough in Japan to develop close friendships with locals. But even Bumiller points out that she has only scratched the surface, and there is much about Mariko's life that we can never comprehend just by reading a book.

Thank God for These Two Women
If it weren't for Jennifer and Laura Berman I'd be divorced and definatley would be suicidal. This book and these two women have helped me to regain my sex life and save my marriage and my life. I watch their show every night on Discovery Health and have also been a patient of theirs. Any woman who is experiencing changes in her sexuality should buy this book. It's also a great reference to know what to expect when we get old, after surgery, as a result of medications etc. God bless them!!

Life changing work
I am both a gynecologist and a woman with my share of difficulties in the bedroom. Not only do I think this will change my own life with my husband, but after having read this book, I am seriously considering someday pursuing sub-specializing in the field of female sexual dysfunction. What ground-breaking material these women have written! I've already recommended it to at least ten patients this week alone, and am anxious to see what the ongoing research in this field turns up. This book is sure to be required reading for all gynecologists in training, as up until now it's been one of those complaints you can sympathize with, but not do a whole lot about as a doctor. Bravo to the Bermans and their collegues for pioneering this long overdue research and treatment of the whole woman patient.

A MUST READ FOR ANY WOMAN!
I found the mind/body approach of "For Women Only" insightful and easy to understand. Whether you're trying to tackle sexual problems or just hone your game, this book covers the gamut of issues related to finding sexual well being. Do yourself and your partner a favor and read this book.

Worth reading
I enjoyed this book mainly because it is about the lives of Indian women seen through the eyes of a foreigner - ie a western woman. I felt I could relate to this book very well as a 'western' woman myself, albeit with roots in India. I would recommend this book for those who know little about Indian society .

A Splendid Insight into India and it's Women
Growing up in the US with an American father and an Indian mother, I have always sought to really understand the culture that my mother came from. Although my mother was a catholic and not a hindu, Elizabeth Bumiller's book has given me an indepth and mesmorizing look at the women of India - the true pillars of that country. Once you start reading, you can't put the book down. Bumiller does a wonderful job at describing the Indian culture in general. My husband and I are adopting from India and this book has given me a greater appreciation for the unknown mother of my future child. A must read book if you have any interest in India, foreign cultures or women's issues.

Incredibly Insightful and Thought Provoking
As a second generation Indian American, a true understanding of the Hindu culture my parents grew up with has not been easy to attain. Bumiller's book provided me with a key to some of the understanding I feel that I have always lacked. Reading her book took me back to my experiences travelling in India. It also provided me with great insights into the worldview of my own mother, grandmothers, aunts, and cousins that are women, although I was a little disappointed that the resilience of the women she studied was implied, but it was not explicitly stated and emphasized. Finally, her book was excellent at raising some very thought provoking questions about both the human condition and (especially) the condition of women in our world. I highly recommend it to anyone that is interested in exploring these avenues of thought.
