Tip passed on
As I started High School many SAT help books were thrown my way from my always helpfull parents and relatives. But this book passed the true test of time. By the end of my Junior year this Red book was the only one left on my desk, with the flash cards scattered throughout my room. It helped me get the scores I wanted...I hope the same is true for you.

If you want a higher score, buy this book
I bought Barron's SAT I prep book and studied it for about a month before my test. It helps you learn your vocabulary and hone in on the math skills that you need work on. The best thing to prepare for the SAT, though, is to TAKE the SAT, and Barron's has plenty of practice tests that are as close to the real thing as you can get. I can sincerely give an unqualified endorsement of this book. My 1600 has Barron's written all over it.

REALLY good
This book really is what the title suggests. It gives you everything you need to know to prepare for the SATs, except the shortened version..which is equally as good as the full version. Plus, it's cheap!

Comment from a Japanese reader
I am trying to obtain vocabulary level of GRE. And "Basic Word List" is an ideal tool for this. When I encounter unfamiliar words in Business Week magazine, I try to find such words in this book. I am certain that remembering all the index words in this book will strengthen my reading skill.

Great value
The book contains a very extensive vocabulary list and good test-taking strategies. The math review is in-depth and covers exactly the material needed for the exam. The practice exercises are more difficult than those found on the actual GRE, which is very helpful; it will help you score high on the actual GRE.

There isn't much difference between the 15th edition and the 14th. Both are very well edited and contain only a few negligible errors. The 15th edition contains an additional chapter on the Analytical Writing instead of the old Analytical section which is no longer used.

As far as I know, the CD-ROM is not very helpful, so you'd better buy the regular edition (without CD-ROM).

I really felt that I got full value for my money, and that's the most important thing. You get a really good prep book, and it is just up to you to use it well.

Great for Writing Vocabularies
If you are looking to build a writing vocabulary this would be the book to buy. Most other vocabulary books are intermixed with a special set of words or bombarded with the author's interpretation on how to build your own vocabulary. But for the most part, people who are looking to expand their writing vocabulary already have a coup on how they want to expand their vocabulary and are just looking for the words to do so. This book allows that to happen. With 3,000 perfect vocabulary words, this is a quintessential book for anyone who is trying to expand their writing vocabulary.

**Warning**
Don't buy this book if you are looking to expand your reading vocabulary. Reading definitions won't help you expand your vocabulary-it's a very inactive form of understanding. Try "Word Power Made Easy" by Normal Lewis or read the classics which are laden with great words. (If the classics aren't your thing, try Asimov's Foundation Series, it's a fun read and chalk full of great vocabulary words.) If you love looking up definitions or looking for an easier way to expand your vocabulary; think about buying Merriam-Webster's speaking dictionary (mws-1840.)

Great helper for Analytical and Vocabulary !
Though i found the Barron's analytical problems a bit harder than any other analytical problems in all the other books like Big Book, Arco's, Kaplan and Princeton Review but they helped me alot in building the true understanding of how to solve the difficult ones in the GRE. In my opinion the time limit given for analytical sections should not be taken into account and tests should be taken untimed and the real goal should be to get all the questions right. Using the above mentioned process when i finished the 10 analytical test sections i got almost perfect in solving the analytical type questions which are logic games etc. To develop speed, however, big book which then looks easier after doing all these problems should be done and then timing for CAT can be developed taking some software tests of Kaplan, Princeton Review and in the end Powerprep. I got 790 in Analytical as a result of all this. The words given in word lists are very important and often come in the real GRE. So if you are able to cram all these words then you'll definitely score high in GRE.

Mistakes
This PSAT guide is extremely helpful in taking the PSAT test, but there are several mistakes in the answer guides for some practice math questions and several other questions in the practice tests that users should be aware of. These mistakes might be confusing to users who are unable to catch the mistakes and know the correct answers.

Excellent Test Prep
You will not find a better GRE Test prep than this book and CD-ROM. The 3500-word vocabulary list and practice questions are right on target with what you will need to know. The diagnostic test specifically narrows down the math subject areas you need the most help in reviewing. The math tutorial pages are informative and concise, with practice mini-tests after each section. The Analytical practice questions are also very similar in length and complexity to the kinds of questions you will receive on the actual test if you are aiming for a high score.

To top it all off, there are five full-length practice tests at the back of the book, in addition to the CD-ROM exam, which can be taken a number of times, and offers (mostly) different questions each time. The CD-ROM exam thoroughly prepared me for the rigors of the actual test.

Yes, there are a few typos in this book, as in almost any other book of this nature, and no, they are not significant enough to greatly alter your prep experience.

I was satisfied with my test results (V 610, Q 650, A 800), and I relied solely on this book for preparation.

This book rules!
I ordered 2 GRE books and this is the only one I kept. It is packed with information. The word list and the math review are extremely helpful, and there are about a million practice exercises (including 6 full-length tests) with full explanations. The practice questions were exactly like the questions on the test, so I knew what to expect. I did every practice exercise and only found about 5 errors, so I don't think the proofreading's a huge issue like other reviewers did. I got 800's on both the Verbal and the Quantitative!!! Thanks for the book!

Great for practicing and Great Vocab!!
I used this book (not the CD), the Princeton Cracking the GRE, and the ETS Powerprep software. I have to say this book was the most helpful to get my scores (V 730, Q 790, A 800). I only really studied the Verbal part, and the 3500 word list in this book was exceptional (and needed for the test). I also liked the large number of questions after each section that you could practice on.

For each section of the GRE, and type of question in each section, Barron's gives you tactics to answer each question effectively. I felt those tactics did help me, on all sections. Especially on the math section, which had a whole chapter which reviewed, point by point, each math concept which you could be expected to know. That geometry is always a pain! :)

I didn't miss the CD, and one word of caution, don't take the Diagnostic Test too seriously, just practice alot and get familiar with questions and strategies to deal with them. That will help more, because you are probably more aware of your weak areas than the test can show you.

I recommend this book, not necessarily for it's tests, but for the abundance of study material, and for practice questions at the end of each section to review what you just learned. Also for the LARGE vocab list (love those notecards).

The only book you will need to prepare GRE
Barron's GRE book is the best. In addition to Barron's, I used different books suc as Kaplan and Princeton review. I found that if you study this Barron's book diligently, you can do very well on your GRE test. The 3500 word list is very very very helpful.

The quantative questions may be harder than the actual exam. However, if you can master these questions, you should do well on the actual test.

All in all, it's an excellent book. Please give yourself two months as there are a lot of material to be learned and studied.

Extremely useful, but model tests & software are irrelevant
Use this book in addition to the official Big Book and PowerPrep software. Read the strategies and hints and learn the 3500-word list, but disregard the model tests and software: they have almost nothing in common with real tests.
I started learning English only after high school, but this book helped me score 2320 on GRE. I must say that most of your preparation time should be spent with the Big Book and also familiarize yourself with the CAT GRE several days before the test date. However keep in mind that GRE tests your life and language experience of many years as well as overall educational background. So the sooner you start preparing, the better.

Great Help
I found this Barron's book a much better help than any other GRE book I used or looked at (esp the Priceton Review book - very bad). This book has a huge number of example problems and exercises (and practice tests) that are really beneficial. The tips about each section of the test are helpful, informative, and well explained. The vocab section is tremendous - with many many words and quizzes to test yourself.

If you are considering a GRE study book, I highly recommend this one as the only one you'd need.
