Great Gift Book!
This little booklet is chock-full of one or two line passages of advice worthy of anyone's consideration. You've no doubt heard a few of these common-sense gems while most will be new discoveries.

I highly recommend this book as a great gift for the young adult reaching a milestone in their lives or for anyone that could use a few good ideas that will truly help them live happier and more rewarding lives. No doubt about it!

Great instructions for life
This is an easy to pick up and read for one minute or read the entire book. I love to use it as a graduation gift for my students. They say it gives them all the things I have been teaching them over the years in one compact little book.

It literally changed ...
I picked up the book while staying in a Bed & Breakfast in the Napa Valley and began to read. It's little sayings were so simple, yet, meaningful. I had to find a copy. Glad I finnaly did!

Anesthesia from A to Z
"Clinical Anesthesia Procedures of the Massuchussets General Hospital" offers concise yet thorough coverage on all aspects of anesthesia. From preoperative visit to basic airway management, from fluid requirements of the surgical patient to specific considerations on cardiac, respiratory and liver diseases, this book has it all in an easily accesible way, especially when your above the "blood-brain barrier". I would especially recomend the chapter on resuscitation of trauma and burns victims, because of the thorough coverage of the subject, better than in many surgical textbooks I have read.

Excellent Teaching Tool and Reference!
I have over 15 years of experience as an anesthesiologist at the prestigious Yale-New Haven Hospital in Connecticut. I've seen it all; however, this text challenged me. I highly recommend it, and every practicing MD and CRNA should have a copy to review and use as a teaching tool and guide.

This is the only book you'll need in anesthesia!
This book encapsulates all the necessary information for clinical practice of anesthesia. It also includes MANY charts and protocols for drugs, malignant hypothermia, ACLS, etc. I can't enter the OR without it.

WE NEED MORE LIKE HIM
H. Jackson Brown's work is a masterpiece!

To read his books simply makes you think and puts a smile on your face.

Thank you Mr. Brown.

live & learn & pass it on
this is a really awesome book! it has the cutest sayings about life and the ideal book to read when you're having a bad day or just need a lift. most of the sayings are true and from people of all ages, which is why it caught my attention. i had originally got this book browsing in a library on my college's campus and checked it out, not knowing what to expect. it has sayings in it like "if you keep doing what you've always done, you'll keep getting what you've always got" by a 51 year old; and that "even though its hard to admit, i'm secretly glad when my parents are strict with me" by a 15 year old, and that "a mule dressed in a tuxedo is still a mule" by a 70 year old and that "being a success at the office is not worth it if it means being a failure at home" by a 51 year old. after reading these passages, i'm positive that the average reader can look through the passages and find a lot that can and does relate to his or her life.

Great Source of Information
Vol 3 of the 3 volume series. (Vol #1 is ISBN# 0-9642621-0-X,Vol #2 is ISBN# 0-9642621-1-8) To get complete information on anysingle manufacturer you need all 3 volumes. There is alot ofinformation missing (which could probably be gleaned from other brokers files in cooperative effort) but that said there is a lot here. Hopefully for ease of use these will be combined into one volume on any future reprints. Also I hope Ms. Mauch continues work on and expand these volumes to add additional manufacturers, models, and specific interior, exterior, sail plan, number of hulls built, and general quality of construction information for any future reprints (and I promise I'll buy and new edition). The other thing I think would fill a serious void is information on company history, specifically, who has gone out of business, been boughtout or merged. These are great books for recreational sailboat lovers and students of the genre, worth the price. END

Excellent even for non-KoK, some errors however
Kingdoms of Kalamar is a campaign setting from Kenzer & Co, the makers of the Knights of the Dinner Table. This book however, although aimed for the KoK player, is most useful for a regular D&D player. Why?
- a lot (I mean a lot) of new feats anybody can use
- several variant core classes like the Gladiator or the Infiltrator that can easily be used in other campaigns
- new prestige classes (like the Golem Master)
- canons (holy books) for Kalamarian faiths. They are written up very generically, so they can easily be used in FR/GH or wherever
- new equipment: poisons, alchemical items etc
- a lot of spells
- how to make rulers more powerful
- gaming rules for clerical hierarchy

The book suffers from some errors, mostly editing and playtesting. The art is sometimes irritating and some 'crunchy' bits have already appeared in other books. I, however have found this book to be of excellent value.

Strong worthwhile book
Another in the line of excellent books from Kenzer, this book has a lot to offer. It gives you more background on playing characters in Kalamar, including some more information on playing various demi-humans. For those who want still more rules, they have some new classes (we have a very effective Brigand in a current campaign) as well as some new spells, a comprehensive list of clerical domains and a whole lot more. I highly recommend this book.

Great Book, Great Setting.
This is a great book with tons of information that you can put into any D&D setting. It is geared toward Kalamar, but is written so generically that you can insert the information contained in this tome into any D&D campaign.

Classes: This book takes the Dungeon Master's Guide's advice and takes the initiative to create variant classes. These range from more specific versions of a class with cool abilities (like the Gladiator and Shaman) to classes that combine existing ones into exciting new classes that are much different than the old ones (like the infiltraitor). These classes are as flexible as the old ones and are fairly well balanced. Also are new prestige classes that cover specific jobs (Mariner, Muse) and a few of the many orginizations on Tellene (Sentinels of Providence, Alliance Merchant).

Feats: Absolutely tons of new feats in this monster. New types of feats like the Enhanced Familiar feats (which give your familiar better abilities like a higher intellegence or the ability to speak) and regional or race-based feats which you can only take at first level help shape your character to exactly what you want and brings the game back to roleplaying.

Religion: This book details the canons of each church. Although these are specifically related to Kalamar gods, they can be adapted to fit any setting. In addition, this book gives ideas on how clerics can advance through the church and very basic game rules like time spent and how to advance to the next level and what you get at each level.

Other rule stuff: The equipment section isn't too terribly exciting but it does give a shot at pushing the edge. Included are (some) new weapons and rules for slaves. The most exciting part is the new alchemical mixtures that will get you thinking of your own and are all interesting in their own way. Their is repeat in the domain section, but not a large amount. The new spells are kinda cool, but what is really nice is the scalable spells. These are kind of like Wheel of Time spells where you choose the level it is cast at.

At the end: The white pages. If you are thinking telephone book when I say that you are on the right tracks. In these are a comprehensive list of all feats and spells (divided up by class) in all official D&D products and where they can be found. These can then be copied to use as a spell sheets. Also back here is a gigantic Place of Origin table. Only useful if you are playing Kalamar but it is non-obtrusive and only takes 7 pages.

To close, this is a great book for all D&D players and DMs alike. If you don't have it yet, I recommend you pick one up.

The Scofield Study Bible/Index: 391Rrl/Brown Bonded Leather
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (1996)
Author: John R., III Kohlenberger

Excellent notes
C.I. Scofield's notes are written from a dispensational approach to theology. It is based on a belief in a historical/gramatical approach to the Bible. Many would say it is a system helps make sense out of Scripture. I agree. Understanding the difference between Israel and the Church and that God administered His faith/grace relationship with people differently throughout human history is clearly taught in these wonderful notes. Some of the material is obviously outdated because of new discoveries in archeology and science. However, the basic notes on the biblical covenants and prophesy are as rich today as the day they were written.

This is a wonderful Bible for people who are trying to make sense out of the Bible.

Thank you Dr. Scofield, Oxford Press and Philadelphia College of Bible.

Very Good Work
The Old Scofield Study Bible (KJV) is one of a kind. Let me be honest right from the start by saying that God's Word does not make any sense unless it is understood with a dispensational perspective. Anything less than that, and your stuck with a Bible that contradicts itself all over the place. All a believer has to do is allow God's Word to interpret itself, instead of listening to the so-called scholars of higher Christian education. They are the main reason for the Laodicean apostasy we find ourselves in today. Scofield did a good job at letting God's Book speak for itself. I have discovered by experience that most of the study bibles out there on the market today are filled with nothing but the authors private interpretation of the scriptures. What's so difficult about just believing what God's Word says, and not adding your own thoughts to it. The Scofield Study Bible does have it's weaknesses on certain passages, but overall it surpasses any other study bible currently out there. With all due respect, people that haven't discovered this have never really searched and studied the Book "with their hearts" well enough to make any worthwhile comment on the subject. Given the choice, I choose to listen and trust God's Word, and not the liberal Christian scholars. Ahhh, there's nothing like a King James Bible to clear up a college education.

Oxford NIV Scofield Study Bible
In taking my Bible study very serious, I like to have at my disposal, a Bible that translates well for everyday language. That is why I highly rcommend the Oxford NIV Scofield Study Bible. The NIV version is a translation that is not so high on language that the average reader could not understand it. Instead, its a translation that's readable and because it has been revised and written by scholars and also theologians from all denominations, you have a broad array of language form and appliability to study and meditate on.

Good start but just the beginning
As Hagel has done in his other books, he successfully synthesizes a signficant emerging trend into some provocative concepts and models. The three phases of restructuring, reduced cost of interaction, notions of loosely coupled process networks, unbundling/rebundling, etc. are all provocative and applicable concepts. There is much that I liked alot in this book and many new and interesting examples bring his ideas to life. I have already handed out over 50 copies of this books to friends and associates.

As with Hagel's other books, however, some of the concepts are taken too far almost to the point of being contrived...or to an unpractical level of abstraction. I think he actually could have left the almost "technical" explaination of the Web services grid out entirely. Components of the Web-services architecture don't tie to the rest of the book. A non-technical exec could skip/skim that chapter entirely and not miss much and still gain lot's from the book. Bottom line: Web-services (2nd Generation Web apps) facilitates easy connections between systems and building and extended real-time enterprise(big deal) but is still very much a work in progress...with lot's of value to be achieved today while remainder of grid is maturing.

I think there will be many more books written on this topic. The next logical one would examine and model the economics of process networks and rebundling while providing examples of rebundling and likely incorporate offshore/low-cost sourcing...and illustrate the practical tradeoffs, returnes, risks, against the existing human capital.

Great start!

Exciting Concept Which Could Overpromise
Out of the Box provides a visionary approach to the promises of this new web programming and architecture called web services. In the second chapter he warns the ready about the writing becoming technical challenging but does a fair job of bringing the technology to the beginner's level. Perhaps more business books should help executives understand Internet technology so that the complexity could be appreciated in a realistic light. As with many books which try to predict future trends in Internet technology in business, Hagel works from a limited number of examples and tends to overuse some. The main weakness of the book is what many who purchase IT consulting services understand too well - early applications of new technology can easily be overpromised and deliver disappointing or more costly results. However, the book's strength is its forward-looking application of a technology that does indeed have great potential.

It's NOT About Technology
Too many people perceive Out of the Box as a "technology" book. To some extent, John Hagel fosters this impression by using a sub-title that focuses on Web services technology. In fact, this is a very insightful book on business strategy - both on the substance of business strategy and the process of business strategy. This insight is starting to be recognized - Strategy and Business (the publication of Booz Allen Hamilton) recently designated Out of the Box as one of the Best Business Books of 2002 and they placed it firmly in the Strategy category. Anyone interested in strategy needs to read this book.

Don't expect too much
This is the book that Powersoft should have provided with the libraries. And nothing more. It is absurd that a library like PFC should be sold with just a list of function and objects. The authors of this book are very good at organizing the original list and presenting it in a more friendly way. I still would like to know why the release of the book was held back 6 months. Was it because of the chapter on PFC 6.0 that never made it into print but is included in the CD? On the bright side, the authors are household names for the PB/PFC community and it is like having a friend's book on the shelve.

Great intro for new PFC users
I routinely recommend the PowerBuilder Foundation Class Library Professional Reference to other PowerBuilder developers who are interested in using PFC. By reading it before starting a PFC development project this spring, I cut approximately 4-6 weeks off my development effort. By the time I got around to taking an actual class on PFC, it was all review.

The text is a relatively easy read for an experienced PowerBuilder developer with a good understanding of object-oriented principles. It provides step by step code examples for implementing key PFC objects. Watch out, though, for the occasional typo!

Although I refer to it less frequently now, I still keep the book handy on my desk. More significantly, I refuse to loan out my copy. I tell everyone to go get their own copy from Amazon.com.

A great way to learn how to use the PFC.
Experienced PFC developers may still learn something new from this book. It is well written, well presented, and has good script examples. I recommend this book to anyone using, or about to use, the PFC on a PowerBuilder project.
