Excellent!
This is a very handsome book - of great interest for architectural buffs or historians. It pairs two great architects - Robert Venturi and Irving Gill - in a unique, engaging, and informative way. The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (in La Jolla, California)is one of the finest small museums in the country, well worth a visit to see outstanding architecture as well as cutting-edge contemporary art.

Gem of a book for a gem of a museum
This is an outstanding book for anyone interested in the work of two great architects - Robert Venturi and Irving Gill. The combination of their work at the museum in La Jolla is masterful, and this book gives a fascinating look into the museum's history and Venturi's thought processes as he sought to restore the historic "Scripps House" while expanding and modernizing the Museum of Contemporary Art. A great find - makes me want to visit La Jolla and see it for myself!

Another Venturi Classic
Buy this book even if you've never been to the La Jolla museum it describes. If you've been to the museum, it's worth buying to give you pause to reflect on what you've seen. This book offers both the history and theory behind Venturi's reshaping of a wonderful museum in an attractive location. Those of us who remember the museum in the old days have got to be impressed with what Venturi has done. Although this text is all too brief, it provides the illumination needed to appreciate more fully this California classic.

A unique and invaluable addition to metaphysical studies
Ably translated by Ronald Koetzsch and Anne Riegel from the original Dutch, Anthroposophy And Astrology: The Astronomical Letters Of Elisabeth Vreede is a fascinating collection of monthly subscription "letters" by Elisabeth Vreede, Ph.D. (1879-1943), a close student of Rudolf Steiner. Ms. Vreede's writings look at astronomy and classical astrology through the lens of spiritual science, and also contemplate the role of astrology in modern society. From heavenly bodies to human souls, the unified thoughts of Ms. Vreede make for a most intriguing study, particularly for faithful astrology followers. Anthroposophy And Astrology is a unique and invaluable addition to metaphysical studies reading lists and reference collections.

The Book of Enoch: A Cross-Reference Exegesis of the Holy Bible

An interesting summary on a little known prophet
I am a personal friend of Rev. Brown. I have worked with him for almost 15 years. I remember him doing his research for almost ten of those years. No doubt this is probably the most up-to-date work on Enoch and whenever Ron and I talked about it he would tell me about some of the more interesting bits of information contained within. It is an exciting revelation about a little known prophet whom God first revealed the mysteries of the universe and creation to. I truly believe this will enlighten those who wish to know more about our Biblical and cultural history. I guess what surprised me the most was to find that Enoch was black...and one of the first prophets of the Bible. Truly amazing!

A delightful read!
This book is the first and last choice of my 15-month-old daughter every night before she goes to bed. She delights in the pictures and simple text, and asks for it to be read over and over again. The age description says 4 to 8 years, but even the youngest readers can enjoy the colorful pictures and the story's adorable heroine.

A must read for USMLE
If you were napping during Neuroanatomy there is a way out. Read this book. The authors have written clear and concise descriptions leaving out all of the frills that will never make it into the USMLE. So fire up your dendrites with a quart of caffeine and go cover to cover in two nights.
You'll at least be able to critique Hannibal Lecter's table manners.

Practical and Prayerful
The last book published by Raymond E Brown prior to his death, it combines serious scholarship and prayerful reflection on the author of the Fourth gospel. The reader gets the feeling that Brown knew the "beloved disciple" on a personal basis. Many of the insights he shares about the community of the beloved disciple and the significance of the Fourth Gospel are profound and deeply moving. A book that is a real page turner.

Homemade Guns & Homemade Ammo : by Ronald B. Brown
This is a great book! all gun enthusiast should have a copy of this book. This book tells you how to make: a 12Ga. Single & over/under shotgun (list of how to make it in a lot of other caliber's is included) with only common tools (is easier with power tools), how to make/reload ammo & primers with matches and other cheap and common items (this works great), how to make a muzzleloader (musket). In short this book is worth the price!

IF YOU ARE AFTER A CHEAP SINGLE SHOT GUN, STOP LOOKING!
At first look at the cover this may look like a rehash of the homemade shotgun in the Improvised Munitions Black Book but just take at the index! Everything is their. Instructions on making a rifle or shotgun in about every available caliber, assembly of same, testing and variations in types of the guns. If ammunition is a problem-not to worry! As long as you have a cartridge case the book brings you through making all types of gunpowders, primers, and moulding new bullets. The thing is what really struck me was his method of reloading a .22 cartridge with an electric drill to provide the centrifugal force. IF YOU WANT TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HOMEMADE GUNS, PRIMERS OR GUNPOWDERS(EVEN SHOWS HOW TO MAKE SODIUM CHLORATE FROM SALT USING ELECTROLISIS). ITS THE MOST EXCELLENT BOOK I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS!

A Classic
This is the revised and updated version of the famous volume named for St. Jerome, the great Christian biblical scholar who insisted that "Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ." I am certain that he would be honored that his name graces the title of this commentary, which has been helping pastors and students for decades.

Inside this work you will find the books of the Bible listed individually, with detailed commentary on verses and even partial verses. Prior to the detailed commentary, a helpful historical sketch is given to assist the reader in situating the particular biblical book in its context. It includes maps and charts.

Though this volume comes highly recommended, it is not always on the "cutting edge" of biblical scholarship. If you choose to utilize this volume, you have made a wise choice, but you should not limit your library to this commentary alone.

Academic, Roman Catholic, and Textual
This is one of the finest biblical commentaries available -- and is certainly unsurpassed as a one-volume commentary.

It is encyclopedic in its examination of the prevailing theories of 'higher biblical criticism.' If you want to know what scholars think about the development of a particular book of the Bible, this is a superb source to consult.

It is not a 'preaching commentary,' however. And though it will tell you a lot about theological ideas associated with particular texts, it is the text, not the theology, which is of principal interest to the authors. This commentary reads more like a technical manual than like Shakespeare -- but this is not a fault. Rather, this commentary fills a much-needed niche among commentaries.

The would-be reader and purchaser of this book should also know that it is born out of a Roman Catholic perspective and often provides critical insights into how the Roman Catholic Church has interpreted Scripture. Similarly, however, this perspective often leaves the reader without the contrasting Protestant and Orthodox perspectives. Again, this is not a fault -- simply something to keep in mind.

This is a superb work that deserves a place in the library of preachers, biblical scholars, and serious students of the Bible.

A Classic!
The New Jerome Biblical Commentary is a great reference book for scholars and pastors who need a single volume of biblical commentary near at hand. The articles are written by some of the greats of biblical scholarship, and offer remarkably in-depth analysis, considering that one volume covers the entire Christian Scriptures. Of special help to students and scholars are the bibliographies at the end of each article. While not up-to-the-minute (the most recent edition of the NJBC is 1991, I think), the bibliographies often point out the most important books and articles written on the Bible in the past 30 years. I heartily recommend this book!
