A nice Greek_English interlinear New Testament
For those who study Greek New Testament, this book can be a good one for vocabulary and translation improvement. The translation of the author is a little bit different from that of NRSB. In comparison of the two translation, we can draw something interesting and useful for our studies.

However, once we acquire Greek vocabularies large enough to read New Testament, a Greek one - not this interlinear one- may be a better choice.

Sometimes quirky translation, but great anyway
I use and like this book much more than I expected to. The interlinear translation is quirky sometimes, not always exact or consistent or as literal as an interlinear should be, and if I didn't know Greek at all I'd never know. But there aren't many of those mistakes. 99% of the time it's fine, far more literal and exact than even the NASB.

The biggest surprise for me is the NRSV translation that runs in the margin, alongside the interlinear. Knowing the RSV's reputation as a liberal, ecumenical translation, I expected to discount it, but I've been converted. I find that it's often more literal and conservative than the NASB, especially with the NRSV's excellent footnotes. I never will like the NRSV's "wind from God" in Genesis 1:2, but that's irrelevant here. I haven't found anything correspondingly weird in the NT. (I know wind and Spirit are the same word in Hebrew (and Greek)--that's not the point.) Anyway, I'm glad to have another good translation to consult.

There's a lot of powerful information in this book, in a very manageable size and at a reasonable cost. I like it.

GREAT at first, but you'll have to get rid of it eventually
I've always trusted Tyndale Publishers, they definitely live up to their high standards. I was excited after beginning Greek to buy my first interlinear Greek/English NT from them and find it to be the best one out there. It is quite impressive, the Greek fully represents the UBS 4th edition as well as the NRSV english translation.

I would recommend this only if you are beginning Koine Greek and need to work with basics or to possibly refine some vocabulary. However, once you have done that with this, which should only be up to a half year maybe, DITCH THIS BOOK!!! While it is a good interlinear, it will hinder your studies, and you should move on to just reading the plain Greek. The UBS edition has a dictionary in the back, so that is enough to help you get by with the little you would still need.

If you are new, buy this book. Get rid of it after 6 months. If you already are well into your Greek studies, don't bother, it will hurt more than it will help.

What does the author want?
My first reaction to this book was how cheap it was made. Not that it would affect content, but it does make me question it. The author's brief bios were on the front and back inside covers. The one of the back had about a word on each line cut out.

I mention the authors' biographies because it makes me think there may be an agenda here rather than an objective biography of one of our presidential candidates.

Vocabulary alone lets you know that the authors do not like Gore in the least. Many of the facts, and they are facts, can easily be compared to those in other biographies. We know that Al Gore did these things. Personally, I don't find this different from any other politician, but the authors want to push you to anger at the thought of Gore in office. I get the feeling that if it was any Democrat, these guys would write just as much with just as much anger.

If you like to read extreme views, this will certainly whet your appetite. If you are looking to make an informed decision, give this one a skip. After reading, you know get the feeling like you should wash your hands.

Wake up and read this America!
While other books have sought to document the life of Al Gore from
purely biographical vantages, this authoritative and occasionally
slapstick work provides deeper insight into Prince Albert and thus
deserves recognition. There is a blend of personal and political
insights offered by the authors. And there are plenty of annotated
footnotes, just ones that some of the reviewers and more liberal
liberals chide as being weak or apocryphal. ...

Lastly, the book portrays a
conniving politician who flip-flopped on issues like abortion for
political gain(e.g., for the VP nod in 1992). (The Congressional
Record is a primary source, yes?)

I heartily recommend this book for
liberals(for education) and for conservatives (for edification).

Enlightening
I just read this book recently (summer of 2001). Its main purpose was to prepare you for the 2000 election and what we'd be getting if Al Gore won the presidential election. As I was reading it, however, Gore has tentatively hinted another run in '04. Bearing that in mind, I still think this book is informative and necessary to all who might consider voting for Gore and any who might still wish he became the president last election.
Many had imagined Gore to be the better half of the Clinton/Gore team. He certainly projected that wholesome image that Clinton could never pull off. However, this book looks beneath his veneer of respectability and exposes his shady land dealing and utter hypocrisy when it comes to the environment.
As it says in the forward, Bossie and Brown strive to be as accurate as is humanly possible. I am greatful to these two men for giving a history of Gore's life for me, as I knew little of his past.
Get yourself a copy of this book, it is very informative.

This book is insensitive to the magic of its subject.
Scholars' stones are magic objects. They open the mind to the realms of poetry, of religion and mythology, of literature and philosophy, of art. This magic is quite destroyed by this book's massive erudition. It is like a too ambitious teacher of literature who destroys poetry by analysing and disecting it. The illustrations are meager, they are after all of secondary importance - the only satisfying one is on the front cover. This book is recommended for all those who are not interested in the magic of its subject.

excellent scholarship and beautiful photos
Having become interested recently in the art of Chinese scholar's rocks, I found it difficult to find much literature on the topic. What a wonderful delight it was to discover this book! As a catalogue for the collection and a scholarly examination of the many aspects of these stones, my appreciation and knowledge of the art has risen dramatically. The essays are thorough and well-written, and the photos are almost as good as the real thing. Having seen some of these pieces in museums, but knowing very little about them and their histories, it was enlightening to get such vast amounts of information on each piece in the catalogue. I encourage anyone who is interested in these stones to give it a try.
