One of my favorite authors
"Having It All" came to me at time in my life, when I really needed some guidance on how to treat my significant other to help him know just how much he meant to me. When applied, Helen's instructions work like a charm. This book is magic and it was amazing to me when everything she wrote about worked. All three women, including myself, who applied her tactics got their man and got married. I have purchased two of "Having It All" because someone never returned my first book.

Good
This is good common sense advice that is available to almost any woman. She tells shy women how to deal with shyness. And covers most other areas of life. I'm a guy, and it helped me with MY shyness. And, as a guy, I wish every woman would read the section where she tells you how to give a man perfect oral pleasure!

Such fun to read!
I happened upon this book on a shelf in a holiday resort and got completely caught up in it - I even considered stealing it!

Her personal writing style, her common sense, her attitude to life - how I enjoy hearing that you have to make an effort if you want to achieve anything! - I enjoyed the book immensely and really got new ideas on some issues. Even my husband, who hates self help books, read a few pages about business and found them interesting and practical (phone rules). Of course, some of the stuff is dated, but in general, excellent reading and so entertaining! The little stories, the wording, the very personal tone (and still, she is never rude to her readers, even in the most intimate situations or when describing what you really should NOT do).

Absolutely lovely, I do hope she writes something for women in general again (a writer's guide is really not something I need! - though, if written by her, I might enjoy even that)

the ultimate pucci book for the ultimate pucci collector
Although a rather rare and pricey item to purchase, Pucci-A Renaissance in Fashion is definately worth the price if you are a hardcore Pucci collector, or even someone with money to burn who has just stumbled upon Emilio's colorful world. Printed and bound in Japan with a Pucci patterned cover, this book is collectible itself. As for the contents of the book, they definately do not fail to please even the most knowledgeable Pucci-head. Written by an obsessed fan, this book is a loving tribute to all things Pucci. It features Emilio history, descriptions and histories of the company and its many products, charming anecdotes of other collectors all detailed with millions of glorious photographs. These photos range from Pucci candy promos to full color full page ads. Here is your chance to stare for as long as you want at all the things you'll probably never be able to see or afford! All of this eye candy will have you drooling for hours. Despite the price, the euphoria you'll get is worth it.

Times never change
I found this book at a thrift store and thought it would be a humorous read. I was surprised to find how much it applied to today's single women and dealing with men/dating/issues of today. I thought it was going to be outdated, but times haven't changed. Great book!!!

Totally "That COSMO Girl"
Helen Gurley Brown tells it like it was, and her life has been more interesting than any fictional character's. She really spills the beans about the way she was; she clearly is a nice woman who had her own code of morality. That niceness keeps shining through the details, regardless of how, yes... wild those details sound. I'M WILD AGAIN is written in the same breezy style she made famous while putting the ailing COSMOPOLITAN magazine back on to the top of the heap, re-defining the magazine publishing industry in the process. She's had a hell of a ride as she moved from struggling secretary, counting every penny, to a living legend--still counting every penny! In WILD AGAIN, HGB lets her fans tag along for part of that ride.

DELIGHTFUL!
I have always admired HGB, so I had to get this book, and I was not disappointed. This book will make you laugh out loud. Not only is the book funny, but its full of wit and wisdom. HGB has truly had an amazing life. I hope that she continues to share her life with us through her books.

The Longtime Legend Still Hast "It"!
People react in strong ways to Helen Gurley Brown and her "Cosmo Girl" outlook: with rage at her success despite her often politically incorrect views OR with a sigh of relief at her wonderfully whimsical, life's-a-party attitude.Obviously, I find myself in the latter camp.

In her latest candid memoir, HGB gets perhaps more personal that ever with revelations about tough times she's gone through (breast cancer, leaving Cosmo, assorted indignities of aging) with her usual unsinkable style, but perhaps revealing more depth and vulnerability than in her prior books, which tended to concentrate heavily on "land that job, land that man."

I think this is Helen at her best- the wisdom that comes from living a remarkable life (that should give hope to any late bloomer), the confidence of a woman who's succeeded too well to worry about appearing flawless, and of course, the ever-present insecurities that made her every Cosmo reader's friend on lonely nights because she'd been there, survived and eventually thrived.

Don't Try It
The writing is excellent. Ms.Brown makes a brilliant argument as to why you can have it all but if you sincerely try to do exactly as she reccomends you will be a burned out wreck. One of the best days of my life was the day I threw this book away.

she won't lie to you
Helen Gurley Brown has long been the bane of certain feminists, probably due to a misperception of her intent. Her message is this book is not "find-a-man, find-a-man, find-a-man," but rather "find your life," and make as much of it as you wish. the methods she proposes for carving our that life can be exhausting to contemplate, but they make you feel like you have some control over your own destiny, which is what feminists have been fighting for. so forget that she wears makeup and pretty clothes and diets rigidly, if that bothers you, and focus on the self-determination she espouses instead. great book for when you feel like a rudderless fat slob.

How to Write the Same Book 4 Times Without Really Trying!
This book has some good tips on getting along in the work place.

For me it was worth reading simply for the advice Helen Brown gives on how to get nails to grow. ie. 5,000 mcg of biotin each day and crisco. The biotin and crisco work; I now have nails after years of trying and failing to grow any.

I would sum up HGB's philosphy in a nutshell:

Get a man to marry you who will support you sexually and financially.

Don't have any children; it might interfere with the good life.

Get a good skin doctor and plastic surgeon in order to keep yourself buff.

Embrace the go-go NYC lifestyle.

Don't ever quit work. (Miss Brown is 78 and still shows up each day with her paper bag lunch)

Helen has some good tips about exercise and vitamins.

Wild...Again
Helen Gurley Brown basically has written the same book at least four times and only she could manage to make each new version totally captivating. This latest rewrite of "Sex and the Single Girl" covers a lot of the same ground as the original but 40 years later. It's still amazingly fresh, witty, original and brave. AND USEFUL. I'm a male mouseburger and Helen has provided many guideposts to life for me (we also turned out to have the same work habits, likes and dislikes, untiring ambition and enthusiasm for our work, love for good health). She's been there, done that, learned from it and she has always been totally generous with her wisdom. This book is a quick read, never a dull moment and mucho thought-provoking. You'll come back to it again and again. Bravo to HGB!

Hooray!
Wonderful! Helen Gurley Brown was a real trailblazer. Many people make fun of her, but she was one of the first women in the popular press to declare that women are sexual creatures, too--real human beings with desires, fears and ambitions. Thank you, Helen. You're not perfect and I don't always agree with you, but you were one of the most influential 20th-century feminists.
