A toddler must have!
This has been my 3-year-old's favorite bedtime (and morning time, and afternoon time...) book since he was 2. The soothing rhymes are so relaxing. Beautifully illustrated. We've had the copy from our church library for so long we decided we needed to invest in our own. If you like Goodnight Moon, you'll love Little Donkey. If you don't care for Goodnight Moon, you'll love Little Donkey. A wonderful investment!

Love it, love it, love it
The sweet illustrations are nice and the wonderful rythym of this story is absolutely the best. It has a rhyming text that is peaceful and tranquil and the most wonderful thing to read your little ones (and maybe big ones) to sleep with. We love it.

A must for the 'go to sleep' library!
I love reading this book to my niece (age 3) and nephew (age 1) at bedtime--it's on their 'most requested' list! The illustrations are very beautiful and peaceful and the overall themes of love and security are just what children (and adults) need in this wild world! The soft sounds in the text of the story are very dreamy and sleep inducing. Lovely!

Excellent introduction to poetry of Hughes
This book features poetry of Hughes for children. The poetry carefully uses language geared for children, uses repetition more than images. This results in text that conveys to children as much the careful, artful use of language as "fine poetry". The illustrations by Bryan are a superb counterpoint to the text - again geared intentional towards children - but showing excellent use of color and a realism appealing to adults.

This book succeeds in being truly for children without being sacchrine or insulting. Don't think of this as an "ethnic" book, it is far too good to be marginalized.

Poetically and spiritually moving;a must for any library
This book not only captures the beauty of Langston Hughes for young readers but also portrays the beauty of African Heritage within the powerful meaning of the story of Christ's birth. I ended up buying two copies on my first round because it was such a wonderful piece of work for both chidren and adults!

My Thumb and I: A Proven Approach to Stop a Thumb or Finger Sucking Habit, for Ages 6-10

very helpful
Carol Mayer has written a great book for parents of digit suckers and the child. We have a 7yo boy who is having a very hard time stopping his thumb sucking. The book is helpful in understanding why one should not suck and gives children positive self esteem building ideas and exercises to quit their habit. Our child likes working with the author in office and with phone follow up. It is the best tool for we who struggle with breaking this habit.

A truly caring way to help children & teens overcome a habit
My son is 10 years old and was having problems giving up his thumbsucking habit. This book is written with love and caring for the spirit of the child. He never faltered and has been successful because he first of all wanted to do it and this book gave us all the tools to help him succeed. This book cannot do it for you but if you keep at it your child can only succeed. My older son is still trying. It's like a smoker who can't quite. They just need to set their mind to it. This book gives the kids all the support and rewards they need.

We loved this non-invasive approach to our daughters habit.
This is the greatest approach we have ever seen. Our 6 year old sucked her thumb so intensely we thought she would never stop. We tried everything ( Time-out, Bribery, Witholding privileges, Hot Sauce) & believe me, this program really works! Upon receiving the book, we sat down & went over the program. Our Daughter signed the contract , kept her charts & wore her "Thumb Gloves". It has been 8 weeks & she has not regressed once! It's not magic-- it's a non-invasive approach that involves a step-by-step process, putting the child in the drivers seat for controlling her habit. I would recommend this program to any parent & child who are serious about stopping the habit & can be dedicated to the program.

Superb Coverage of Basic events
Modern Warfare looks at the world's conflicts since World War II and explains the basic strategies and battle plans of all sides. It makes for a fine military history textbook of the twentieth century. The first half of the book or so looks at the Second World War while the remainder is taken up with wars from the Greek Civil War to the Falklands. Although the coverage of World War II is excellent, readers who, like myself are already familiar with that history will likely prefer the book's second half. For while many already know all about Pearl Harbor, Stalingrad, and the Battle of the Bulge, they probably know less about the Chinese Civil War, the French Algerian War, and Biafra. As with many of the books I review though, this one is way out of date. It was written in the mid 80's, during the Cold War, and so will be of little use to some. The author's section on the Gulf War, for instance, refers not to our fight with Saddam but rather to the Iran-Iraq conflict. Nevertheless, this is a great book for anyone seeking general information about war since 39.
