For Grandma's too!
This is such a great book! Fun (and important) (how to tell a poisonious snake) things to learn in this book. And done with love with wonderful thoughtFULL thoughts at the end of each chapter - "COOL MOM THOUGHTS"! And written - obviously with such love and enthusiasm about being a mom. What, to me, is really great is this: So many times moms have so much "momming" to do that they can't spend the time they would like with their children - and THAT IS WHERE GRANDMA'S come in! There are great and fun things I look forward to teaching MY grandson -things I never would have known how to do (we will view a hummingbird up close!) --- THIS BOOK IS A GIFT TO ALL WHO LOVE CHILDREN!

A Great Intuitive Approach to Nurturing Your Baby
Instead of a "one size fits all" advice book this book does a great job of explaining the importance of responding to your baby as a unique person. Every child is different and by listening to their individual needs instead of trying to follow general advice one can connect more closely and meet the child's needs more effectively. As a simple example, this approach bolstered my resolve when relatives and strangers alike told me that my infant son needed to be dressed more warmly than he seemed to like. Now eight years old he has always been warm when most people are cold and resists wearing coats until the rest of us are shivering. This is just one small example of the cumulative benefits that come from reading and considering the perspective so beautifully described in this book. When in doubt listen to your baby and your heart.

How Stress Makes You Fat
I'm telling everybody I know about this empowering book because it's helped me so much. It's the most refreshingly honest diet book I've ever read. All the studies the author writes about in the book are listed in the notes at the back so you can look them up for yourself and show them to your doctor if you want to. As we all know, it's impossible to take charge of your weight if you don't have all the facts. You begin clutching at straws. This book is called The Power because accurate information is power, and this is the FIRST REPORT telling women about all the new, cutting-edge research coming out of the biggest, most well-equipped fat labs. The most important surprise is how stress makes you fat. The big secret is a stress hormone called cortisol. Cortisol opens the unhealthy fat cell doors so the fat can go in. Cortisol can cause you to store more unhealthy fat even when you don't overeat! (That helps explain why I gained nearly 70 pounds when I really DON'T eat that much.) Scientists have now linked high cortisol levels to Depression Fat, Anger Fat, Binge-Eating Fat, Night-Eating Fat, Polycystic Ovary Fat, Lazy Thyroid Fat -- in all to 11 different ways you can gain unhealthy weight. Options. Making your own choices and finding your weight, your way. That's what The Power is all about. Buy this book. It will change your life. I've lost 60 pounds so far. Only 10 more to go!

MORE THAN A DIET BOOK, A HEALTHY WEIGHT BOOK
The author of this excellent book boils down all the latest research about weight. She then includes a bunch of quizzes so you can diagnose yourself, find out what fat type you have, and then figure out how to solve it. The author makes the point (and I agree with her) that most diet books disempower women by giving us ironclad "rules" to follow, even down to telling us precisely which foods to eat. Don't you just hate those little sheets of "the right foods" that doctors hand out. Women aren't stupid. We know the difference between a brownie and an apple. What we don't know is why we feel compelled to eat the brownie instead of the apple. This book tells us WHY WE GAINED WEIGHT and how we can use this information to get thin. A refreshingly honest book that's long overdue. I'm already becoming the scientist of my own body, I've lost 23 pounds in two and a half months -- and this time I'm keeping them off because I have THE POWER. My husband (my best cheerleader) tells me, "You go, Girl!" And I have!!!

TAKE CHARGE, GET THIN!
Finally! The complete truth about weight loss with no gimmicks, no hype. Sue Ellin Browder is a wonderfully honest investigative journalist with no pet theories to promote,no clinic to fund. She has talked to the world's leading obesity specialists, read the medical literature (more than 4000 studies!), talked to women who've been there (the weight-loss winners), and then written a guidebook any woman can use to achieve a healthy weight for life! This is a book for smart women who want to take charge of their weight and their lives. Rather than giving us a one-size-fits-all prescription (which, as we all know, never works), Browder gives us a list of options that have worked for other women and a bunch of questions you can ask, so you can make your own clear-headed decisions and make the choices that work best for you. I've already lost 12 pounds in three weeks just by becoming the "scientist of my own body" and achieving MY weight, MY way. Take charge. Buy this book. Strong, independent women have been waiting for these answers for years!!!!!

Is getting totally involved in daydreams a key to great sex?
Full of beautifully inspiring stories of women who regularly have extraordinary sex, with orgasms so good the "earth moves"... and ways of developing the qualities and attitudes those women have. Their research shows that being able to vividly imagine an experience, and the ability to become totally absorbed in what you are doing, are the key qualities these women share.

Proof of What I've always thought
I found this book to be very informative and helpful. I have been with my husband for 12 years and have always thought this kind of sexual experience was possible. It was great to read of other women's experiences and know that what I always thought could happen is happening! I brought me back to the hope that sex can be more then just a physical act, but a communing of the souls, a way to come in contact with our true selves. It offers suggestions for ways to come closer to this kind of experience for yourself and your partner, by using studies of women who have already achieved this kind of experience. I found it to be inspiring.

a little book of parenting skills
There is a sweet (but short) time when kids think their parents know everything; with this little book you will be able to put off that bittersweet (but necessary) time when they know better.

Some items seem obvious (how to throw a frisbee or climb a ladder). Some I used to know but couldn't remember specifics (how to determine the temperature by a cricket's chirps, tell time by the stars, or break in a baseball glove). Others were totally new to me (how to photograph lightning or build a snow candle). Descriptions are two to three pages. When necessary, line illustrations are used.

I'm puzzled as to why several people felt the need not only to give this book a one-star rating, but then to belittle people who live in cities or don't know everything (as they seem to). Maybe you won't enjoy this book as much as others, but giving it such a low rating and indulging in tirade is a bit hostile -- and undeserved. Maybe all 101 things won't be new to you but likely some, and perhaps more, will.

Helpful and Inspiring
Sure, many dads may know half or even two-thirds of these things, but I doubt that many know all of them. Even if they did, do their kids? In that respect, this book inspires bonding time and passing that knowledge onto children. There were many things mentioned that I thought, I better teach my kids that. If even a dozen new items get passed onto your kids, it is easily worth the price of the book.

Great Gift for New Dad
I bought this for my son-in-law after my grandson was born & he thought it was great. Now it is a standard gift for new Dads. I highly recommend it to friends and new grandparents as a gift idea.

Banal stuff
Just a rehash of other dictionaries and personal opinions. So what

REALLY PRETTY, A GREAT GIFT
A really pretty baby name book. I'm talking here about the yellow book with the Mary Engelbreit cover; I see this book has a number of versions. But the one I bought was just gorgeous. It's full of great names and has lots of lovely boxes packed with intriguing trivia. Apparently, when this book was first published in the 70s, it was the only baby name book to contain unusual names in addition to Mary and John. My mother still has one of the original copies (she named me with it!),but in my opinion this latest edition is even better. A timeless classic.

WHAT FUN!!!
Lots of great names from all over the world. This book has a real "internet" feel about it. It has all the timeless classics like Sarah, Emily, Joshua and Austin. Plus tons of appealing new names I hadn't thought of. I found the no-angst chapter on the psychology of naming my baby especially reassuring, and the section on the best ways to create a name was a blast!!
