Greatest Little Mystery Ever!
I was hooked on this book from the very first page. I'm not much of a mystery lover, but this book made me feel as if I were on the front porch spying on the neighbors. The book will put you in the middle of all intrigue and excitemnent. Just when you think you have it all figured out, the plot takes an interesting twist. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

A dangerous book--capable of igniting a spiritual fire!
This book is what got my passion for prayer ignited. Before I am too ashamed to admit how much I prayed. I am indebted to this book to my call to intercede for couples and marriage (revival)in America. A well-worn saying among book reviews, but it certainly applies to this one, this devotional needs in the hands of every believer!!! If you are reading this review, this means you!

A burning and shining lamp
John the Baptist. Although his career was short was far from a shooting star. His light was not repressed in the dusky dungeon of Herods courtyard, but on the contrary he shone with more brillance and excellency than than the morning sun. JESUS said " Among those born of women none is greater than John the Baptist, save he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he". As always F.B. Meyer and his goldtipped pen retell the story with the beauty and majesty that it deserves. Mr. Meyer sets the backdrop of his early life, the solitary years, the ministry of John, the friendship with CHRIST and finally the demise of this man. He unveils the dusty pathway traveled by John and clearly lightens the interstate for young pilgrims to travel. A delightful book and a must for all readers young and old.

A challenging piece on meeting God face to face.
F.B. Meyer's quiet language slices through complacency to awaken in a tired, sometimes disillusioned soul the hunger to know the God that Moses met, worshiped, served and came to know intimately. I found myself wanting to devour the work in one sitting; yet, needing to pause after each chapter to allow the depth of teaching to take hold. His style is one of conversation rather than dislogue. You become intimately a part of Moses journey through Meyer's sincere love and hunger to know God.

Surprise Surprise
I couldnt make up my mind, whether to like it or not. There is no way in between for this book. I had to read it for school (I'm Dutch). It is a very easy book and it doesnt show up with things that seem meaningless, but appear to have loads of other meanings to it. If you like to read about the beginning of the 20th century, this is a book to read, easy and quite ok. I didnt like the extreme simpleness of it. It is very regular, a boy loves a girl, they date but it doesnt work out. I also don't think it is really giving more information on the Dutch situation in that time. It was written in 1949, so that is a bit later. Vestdijk may have lived in that time as a little kid himself. If I would really choose to read a book, it would never be this kind of book. It is written in a very romantic style. Knowing that Vestdijk was a shrink himself, it is also very psychologically written. Knowing that he never skipped in his books one can find some faults in it too (the translated version is probably filtered). This Vestdijk had some weird manners as well, maybe that explains some details. I would only recommend it to people who have special interests in that time and in weird love-affairs.

Vestdijk at his best
This novel is regarded as one of Dutch writer Simon Vestdijk's best novels ever. Well, there are a couple of arguments supporting this view. The novel is beautifully written and the story is carefully created. Vestdijk transforms his memories of his own youth into the memories that everybode can identify with. The original title De Koperen Tuin, which means The Garden of Copper, gives even more meaning to the story and the way memory and the past play their different roles in the novel. This book is brilliant and everybody should at least try to read it!

one of the finest love stories of this century
"Whereas The Garden where the Brass Band Played is `merely' one of the finest love stories written in this century, One Hundred Years of Solitude is one of the most beautiful novels ever written." With this quotation in mind, one should seek out this fine Dutch novel about the love affair between a young man of the upper middle class and the daughter of a failing music teacher.

A Fistful of Kings By John Brotherton
This is a wonderful book. It is written by a man who has been through really trying times but has come out on top.

I know that every word of this book is true, however you really put that aside and feel as though you are reading a fantastic thrilling piece of fiction. Knowing that John and his wife Susan actually experienced every emotion and had to deal with those moment by moment and make a life or death decision so many times will keep you very close to this book until the very end.

Give this one a try. It will enlighten you about Louisana Politics, the part private business and yes even celebrities play in the gambling industry in Louisiana the USA and even Russia. There is a little romance for the romantic.

Thanks John for the good read.

A Fistful of Kings
Wow. When I started to read this book I thought it was a work of fiction. I live in Lake Charles and knew just about every major player John Brotherton named. When the riverboats came into Lake Charles I was only in elementary school so I did not know what really happened (happenes still) in Louisiana politics. This book opened my eyes to how crooked our state really is. This book is excellent for anyone who would like to read a book that you will not put down. It is a combination of scandals, spies, fiction only imagined, crime and above all else the truth. I can highly recogmmend A Fistful of Kings to anyone. Enjoy.

The mystery is really ???
So far I've identified 18 clues and I'm stumped to find the rest. Brotherton's got a good weaving style. I will keep trying. This is a good book for the main story and the hidden one.
