A must for History teachers.
As a History teacher of 5th graders, it provides an excellent primary source. As you know, one of the national standards is the use of primary and secondary sources. Some of the material is a little high, but I edit what they need.

EXCELLENT!
Great book-has info on each song - country of origin, style, albums including the song, etc... Easy to read notation including chords. A Must!

AWESOME
This is the third and LAST "fakebook" I will buy.
It should be called "the Fiddler's Realbook"
While the other fakebooks are just that, this one actually uses sheet music rather than tab. Now I can play the tunes with any instrument, or any other musician (who can read sheet music) I very much recommend it.

The one to get!
This is the tune book to get. It contains most of what is being played, and in the key and style and version you are most likely to hear it. Sure there are other tune books you will want, but this one will always be the core of your collection.

I am on my second one, the first one got so weathered and beaten, and the binding eventually broke and fell away, and I carried the pages held together with a large binder clip for awhile, hesitating to buy a new one because I did not want to lose all the hand written notes I had scribbled. Ok ok, I also did not want others to see the shiny pages free of the coffee stains and sun dried water stains.

No-nonsense collection of tunes
If you're after the usual folk-tune-collection introductions to each song, you won't find them here: just the bare bones of the songs in various arrangements (mostly clawhammer, quite a few Scruggs-style). The music speaks for itself, though, and like all books of this type it's fun to pick a page at random and see what it sounds like.

Banjo Picker's Fakebook by David Brody
This book is 216 pages of banjo tunes arranged for three-finger and clawhammer players. It includes a cross-reference of alternate titles and a 24 page general discography, as well as a discussion of the types of tunes included. There is also a short discussion of technical topics such as modes (very appropriate for traditional music) and how to read tablature.

This book is a lot like a Grainger's collection of fiddle tunes for flatpickers. Unlike Grainger's, which only provides enough tablature to spell out the melody for the A part and the B part, The Banjo Picker's Fakebook takes you through one whole iteration of each tune complete with first and second endings. Also like Grainger's, this is not an instruction book. It leaves both the right and left hand fingerings entirely up to the reader. For example, if you are a strictly a bluegrass player, the clawhammer arrangements will not be useful to you.

Although the discography could be used to collect aural examples of the tunes, a CD or a set of tapes would have been a welcome addition. Music is an aural art, and it is impossible to convey the full musical sense in tablature or in standard musical notation alone.

If you are looking for a lot of tunes, thoughtfully arranged in a single volume, I highly recommend The Banjo Picker's Fakebook. If the tune can't be found in this book, chances are no one eles knows it either, so you could go ahead and play anything that fit.

We ALL loved it!
I am a member of a 7 person bookclub and we have yet to read a book that we all liked, unitl now! Unlawful Deeds is a treat. If you like Grisham, you will love Brody! The attention to detail in the telling of this Boston real estate/legal thriller is impressive. Every character is believable and you find yourself drawn into the plot immediately. We can't wait to read Mr. Brody's next book!

Page turner....
Unlawful Deeds was a book that was difficult to put down. It's view of the 1980's Boston real estate market combined with the murder/mystery presented a fascinating plot. I'm anxiously awaiting the sequel...

A real winner!
Unlawful Deeds kept me guessing right up to the final pages. Mr Brody has assembled an excellent cast of characters, suspenseful plot twists, and delivers his unique insight on the crazy world of Boston real estate in the late 80's!

Too little, too late.
I sincerely expected a lot more. Be aware that, as of 2000, most websites featured in this book either do not exist any longer or have gone under a complete facelift. The CDROM included was quite disappointing: just a directory of the featured sites with a low resolution graphics of their splash page; there is an option to connect to them but the links are mostly outdated. I think the only value of this book is its inspirational content: some of the sites do indeed look great (I wonder about their loading time though) and will inspire some of us to do "a little more". This book was probably great 2 years ago; it has little value nowadays.

Great Looking Failures
Iacocca said, "A man ahead of his times, is broke." Try and go to these incredible sites and discover the failure rate of cutting edge websites. Great designers none-the-less.

A must have for any designer
This is an awesome book! I'm a Digital Artist and I was very inspired by the designs featured in this book. It will inspire you! You will look at all your previous work and think their boring! This book is on the cutting edge. The full color pictures are awesome, it's beautifully and it rocks! I recommend it to anyone in the design field! An excellent book to inspire web designers. I love it!

Science for drama majors
Really boring and some of the author's words were more confusing than any mathematical equation. I was very disappointed with this one.

Excellent Science Class
I enjoyed reading this book very much. The first two chapters are out of this world. They provide a factual, easy-to-read account of the development of physics, and cosmology in particular. Although history of scientific ideas in the political context is one of my specialties, I found these chapters educational. Everything is laid out in such a way that it is easy to understand which scientist made which contribution to the development of our understanding of the universe.

The only reservation I had about this book is that it has its dogmatic moments, for example when the authors claim that the theory of evolution is not a "theory," but something above it, because it has been "proved." One of the authors is a practicing attorney, which may be the reason for this approach. Scientific theories are not "proved" the way mathematical theorems are, or the way one proves things in a court of law. Scientific theories are always tentative, provisional, hypothetical. Science includes facts. For example that a coin can land in three ways: hads, tails, or (incredibly) on its side. This is not a theory, but a fact, and it can certainly not be "disproved." If the authors want to call evolution a fact, they are free to do so. But science is not a court of law--it does not prove things.

Very cool.
This book is excellent for anyone who is curious about science but had teachers and professors who made science as boring as possible. It includes one of the best explanations of Relativity I have found.

America:A concise History
This was a typical textbook, but more involved and interesting than the average. I would not read it for fun, but since I had too, I am happy that it was not incredibly dry and boring.
