This book was a really interesting depiction of male life in this creole neighborhoods. It was not an "easy read" for someone who is not in the field of anthropology, but if you can see through the wordiness of the pages, it is really an interesting story. Knowing that the author predominantly focuses on the role of men in society, he occassionally recognizes how the women and children of this society are effected by rampant alcoholism and unemployment. If you are looking for easy reading, this is NOT it! But if you are mildly interested in the role of males in the family in other countries you might want to check this one out!
