An interesting and informative biography of Barton.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The text was accurate
yet lively, the details fascinating. This book was
a wonderful insight into the life of a couragous
woman who braved great danger to help others. Clara
Barton should be a role model to all. She braved
Civil War battlefields to nurse the wounded and then
fought for an American chapter of the Red Cross. I
highly reccomend this book to all!

Second book in a series depicting life of young nurse
I read this book as a child circa 1960. It so captured my imagination that today I work as a pediatric nurse in a 600 bed hospital. Fun reading for any young person but especially for those of us who still practice family reading.

To Albania? In a Model T?
I admit to a bias. Helen Dore Boylston was a cousin of my grandfather's and I've been feeling terribly cheated since I read this book because I never met her. The story is remarkable. Two young women decide to drive from Albania to Paris. Their adventures are not, perhaps, quite as colorful as one might hope, but their daring and imagination in deciding upon such an voyage make your realize that Laura Ingalls Wilder really raised one heck of a brave and free daughter. I'd recommend it to anyone who's read the Little House Books or any of Helen Dore Boylston's books about Sue Barton.
a great find, if you can find it.
Rose Wilder Lane- Laura Ingalls Wilder's daughter- and Helen Dore Boyleston- author of the Sue Barton - were friends and traveled by car from Paris to Albania during the 1920's. This book is basically excerpts from their diaries and provides some wonderful insight into their lives and is great just because it is surprising in the way that people you never imagined were connected are.

Nursing school hijinks
Sue B beats Cherry Ames hands down. Both are nursing series and I like them both but Sue Barton series includes character and plot development that the Ames books just don't have though they are amusing. Sue Barton is fully fleshed out character that you want to succeed.
This book is about her probationary year in which she has several exciting adventures that firmly awaken her to why she wants to be a nurse.
