First book in a great mystery series
"Coyote Wind" is a darn near perfect specimen of a mixed-genre mystery cum western. Gabriel Du Pré is laconic, honorable, and wise to the ways of the Big Sky Country---a throwback to the noble cowboy-hero of Zane Grey's novels. He is a vulnerable hero, a Métis descendant of the French Voyageurs and Plains Indians. He has problems with his teenage daughter, who has shaved off part of her hair and dyed the rest of it a weird color. His mistress won't marry him because in the eyes of the Church, she is still married to the sleaze who deserted her many years past. He is plagued throughout the book by an alcoholic Métis prophet.

Du Pré's voice is unique, and perfect for this story. His dialogue is short, punchy, flicked with mordant barbs---an arrow in your eye when you are least expecting it. Two chapters into the book, found myself talking, thinking like Du Pré.

The mystery of who killed whom in "Coyote Wind" is fairly easy to unravel once you get to know and care about the characters. It almost had to occur, considering the people involved. It becomes more important to see if Du Pré can help a friend stop drinking, rather than to figure out who murdered his friend's brother. As Du Pré keeps telling everyone who will listen: "I ain't a cop...I am a [brand inspector]."

Nevertheless, it is Du Pré who is tapped to solve a thirty-year-old murder. He goes about it in a style that is perfectly tuned to his character. Not a single false note from Du Pré or his fiddle.

"Coyote Wind" is a very satisfying read.

I'm hooked
I'm hooked, Peter Bowen has made the characters real for me, he's given them life. He shares his knowledge of what it is like to live in rural Montana, the lifestyle, the love of the land, the selfish way the locals take care of their own and the country.

A Must Read for Family Therapists
This book explains Bowen's Extended Family Therapy Theory. This is one of the most important family systems theories in the history of family therapy and it is still one of the most widely used theories for working with families. Anyone that is studying family therapy should read this book as it is the seminal work on Bowen Therapy. Essential ideas such as triangling, emotional fusion, and intergenerational transmission are well explained.

One of the best things about this book is that it is highly readable. This book can be beneficial to anyone interested in learning more about families. It can be helpful to the lay person as well as to the professional family therapist.

Introduction to natural sytems
A rich introduction to Murray Bowen's natural systems theory. Explains relevance of the theory to clinical work with families, couples, and individuals. Also, briefly explores and contrasts the relationship of Bowen theory to sociobiology, evolutionary neurology, and analytic theory. Case illustrations are clear and helpful. Would recommend to social workers, psychologist, biologists, and those interested in a natural systems approach to human behavior. Although strong on evaluation and descriptions concerning emotional processes in human families and groups, there is less attention to therapy techiques. More of a book about thinking on relationships, than one of the clinical "how to" kind of presentations that have become standard fare in the family therapy field. I have read through Dr. Kerr's text several times and have studied its chapters separately. Each reread reveals additional applications and insights into the theory. Surely, a book that can grow with you! Dr. Bowen's epilogue is an added jem in which he offers perhaps his last written description of the development of the theory and his belief in the relevance of theory to the future. Personally, the book has influenced both my private and professional life.

Stare Swirl Sniff Sip & Swallow!
An easy to understand guide for anyone who wants to learn some basic facts about wine and opening a bottle of wine - whether you're trying to impress friends, clients, dinner guests, or the neighbors!

"Uncork It!" is worth the money , in exchange for the info.
"Uncork It!" helped me to be more confident in my knowledge regarding wine purchases and feeling that I can "hold my own" when conversing about different types of wine. I also became better at opening a bottle, (with grace and tact)when I followed Cathleen Michaels' directions, step by step. Easy and fun reading. Humor in the book, along with the illustrations, made reading enjoyable and the points clear. Helped remove some of my "phobias" of wine serving. I have always been a bit intimidated by wines, due to my lack of knowledge, and felt that a lot of "big books" out there in print, were way above my head and were unapproachable for me to even pick up and read. Learning about wine does not have to be just for those who are "in the know". I used what I had learned from reading "Uncork It!" at my own dinner party. My guests noticed I was confident when opening and serving the wine and commented on my ability (I felt pleased and proud that they noticed a difference)- of course, I told them about the book! I was also able to use the "appropriate lingo" to describe the wines we were drinking, remembering from the wine discriptions in the book. My dinner party was enjoyable and the conversation flowed and upbeat when discussing the basics about wine and our own feelings of buying and opening wine. I learned I was not the only person "afraid" of wine. This book helped me and my guests to open up to talking about our fears and I was able to encourage them from what I had read in "Uncork It!" Information in book is very applicable . You won't be disappointed!

A well-designed "Closed Door" murder mystery

Today, Richard Michaelson works as a part-time political consultant, but for years he worked hard at trying to gain a slot in the government's top ring. Though semi-retired, he still looks for the opening that will grant him his desire. It appears that his dream might come true, when Phillips, a not so likable political acquaintance, asks him to obtain the real estate price of Culvert Mansion.

Richard attains the information, but concludes that the estate is clearly unsuitable for Phillips' clients. Richardson begins a bit of investigating so that he could possibly gain a political appointment, but also pay off a debt. However, before he can complete his inquiries, "a closed door" murder occurs. He realizes that Phillips has a hidden agenda tied to the mansion and Richard plans to learn just what that is.

COLLATERAL DAMAGE is an enjoyable "closed door" mystery that includes a clever who-done-it and an even more intelligent why it was done. Richard seems to be a poor man's 007, but that is enough for him to ooze charm that captivates the reader. The novel is loaded with puzzles that Michael Bowen smoothly converges into an exciting story line that turns into a thinking person's mystery.

Religion and mystery
What could possibly be the connection between two teenagers seeing a real or imagined vision of a martyred philanthropist, the disappearance of a professor who had connections with the philanthropist, an extremely active member of an American militia seeking the professor, and the death of a woman who had just taken part in a Communion service at a Roman Catholic Church? You will have to read this book to find out because it is well beyond my powers to explain it and well within Michael Bowen's to bring it all together in a fascinating novel that also contains excellent writing and realistic and enjoyable characterization. And there is, sandwiched in for those of us who appreciate such things, a possible impossible crime, if indeed the woman did die from being poisoned.

This book deserved a major publisher. While the small-press publisher deserves accolades for making the novel available, greater care should have been taken in the typesetting, which borders on the amateurish.

Hillary: How America's First Woman President Won the White House

Author: Michael A. Bowen

This has movie written all over it.
Along the Washington beltway there is always something new happening and just when you think it's politics as usual that's when the tables are turned and the most unexpected things can happen. Michael Bowen has certainly proven to me that he has the understanding of what happens in Washington and how the political game is played.

The book is more than a "might be" story this is look into the realm of high possibilities. Starting off on September 3rd and using the current political layout Bowen takes you on a journey that while you may think that it's a "pro" Hillary Clinton novel, it maintain a realistic objectivity from beginning to end.

Bowen's walk through the Democratic political machine is nothing short of incredible, watching the plot unfold you'll see Hillary Clinton battle former friend Al Gore for the nomination from the primary season right to the Democratic national convention.

You'll walk through the camps, see the press reaction and deal with Congress all the while having to remind your self this book is a futuristic tale. See how Hillary tackles the familiar Republican war cries of taxes, civil rights, abortion, health care, domestic and foreign policy and war and how her spin machine is ready for anything.

A masterful job of putting together what could happen with what is happening and even a few surprises along the way. I found this compelling to say the least and powerful and gripping to say the most, Bowen has mastered the talk of Washington and tone of the political climate.

Once you are hooked and ready to see what happens in the first 100 days, you'll find it's liberal politics as usual, but you may fins the first state of the Union address a little surprising. One this is certainly for sure, whether you are the most staunch Republican or the most steadfast Democrat, whether liberal or conservative, this book is a must read for any and all political junkies.

Overall one of the best books I have ever read and I can see this book moving to the silver screen. Bowen is truly remarkable is what he has done here.

Great satire
Rep Pennyworth is a junior partner in a major Indiana law firm, but he is not a typical Midwest lawyer. He is content in his relatively low-level position and has no desire for any excitement especially at work. His only exception is his enjoyment for spanking fantasies that he indulges in chat rooms and Internet porn sites.

His quiet lifestyle changes when he is forced to take on Charlotte Buchanan as a client since her father is one of the firm's most important clients. She wrote a novel "And Done No Other's Harm", which was made into movie without her consent or remuneration. What is a simple case of copyright infringement turns into a criminal conspiracy that threatens Rep's life.

SCREENSCAM is a satirical take on legal thrillers that uses humor to enhance the plot. The protagonist is an "everyman" with the concerns and fears that all humans have. That makes the hero accessible and likable to the audience in spite of his fetish, which is the high point of slapstick. Michael Bowen has a refreshing style of writing that will make this author a cult favorite.

Great for SAT Prep!
I highly recommend Up Your Score for students trying to improve their SAT scores. It is very easy to read and extremely informative. The authors write it from a student's perspective, and include some humorous and light-hearted comments. Excellent strategies are included for sentence completions, analogies, and critical reading sections. There is also an exhaustive vocabulary list for those students willing to increase their vocabulary. The math sections are also worthwhile. Unlike other SAT prep books, this book is readable and not formidable like many other huge SAT prep books that weigh a ton! Great job done by these authors!

Humorous and smart
This book is written by 4 former students who achieved the unheard of apex of 1600 on the SAT (which stands for nothing btw).

I think this book is very good because it is funny. For example, they say that in order for you to learn a vocabulary word you should "staple it onto your goldfish". They even say that repeating a word during, ahem, sexual activity makes it easier to remember. I tried this and it works.

On a more serious tone I think that it is based on solid information. For example, in order to remember the word crass (meaning stupid), it says: "it is crass to scratch your ...".

Tell me, in which other book does it say something like this. Certainly not Barons, or Princetons Review, or any others. Furthermore, all of the examples from the SAT in this book are bona fide. The problem with other books is that they make up their own problems. The College Board has very expensive facilities and faculties and any examples an author would make is nothing like one made by a myriad of researchers and consultants.

In conclusion, this book is great. Why spend hundreds on Princeton courses when a couple of dollars will get you mentally ready. It taught me to hate the test, and to use this hate to foil the tricks on the test, which "up"ed my score.

It Works!
I used this book as part of my SAT test prep and I raised my score 150 points. As a result of my score I became a National Merit Scholar. I think the best section of this book is the vocabulary, with an interesting technique to memorize the words. I used this part the most and also some of the tricks for the math section. However, I would also suggest buying a vocabulary and/or math workbook to go with this, since there are not really any practice problems in the book. Also, as the book's authors suggest, buy 10 Real SATs for the most legit practice tests around. All in all, a great tool.

Another good baseball mystery.
This is an intelligently written book with a complex setup, dynamic characters, and an intricate plot. Perhaps a little bit too intricate, but it still makes for good reading with a cup of hot cocoa.

A terrific book that pulls you in from the start!
I love this book. And I am not even that much of a baseball fan. The author's insight into plausible interactions between a (female) rookie ballplayer and the other players, managers, and sportswriters make this a compelling book.
