I found myself immersed in the content, reading each chapter with great anticipation. Each of the summaries were full of valuable and revealing material. In every chapter, Eliot had a very creative sequence of interviews linked to the next section, making the reading interesting. The book is well written, it presents the most outstanding review of very well known and respected individuals in the field of thantology.

This book is all about the language of the abortion debate. It uncovers and dissects the rhetoric which the abortion choicers use to obfuscate the fact that abortion is the brutal axe murder of a defenseless child. For far too long, the abortion choicers have determined the language with which this political debate is discussed. The pro-life movement has allowed this to happen. Euphemisms have always been the tool of those who would hide the truth. The whole purpose of the book is to uncover the subterfuge. It does an excellent job of this. Unfortunately, many sincere people in the pro-life movement have fallen victim to the terminology of those who would excuse this horrible inhumanity to these tiny children. I urge every pro-life person to read this book thoroughly, commit to memory the information therein, and never again to let anyone get away with using language to rob people of their inalienable rights. The use of language in this manner has always been the tool of those who would legitimize evil. Do not let this continue to happen! Read this book and heed its message. Our very civilization depends on it.

This book is an excellent addition to the library of any pro-life advocate. It contains carefully detailed political, scientific and biblical facts which get right to the heart of the pro-life/pro-choice argument. The author takes the focus off the woman and puts it where it rightfully belongs: on life itself. I plan to buy several copies of this book to give away as the need arises.

Dr. Garton continues to bring credible and convincing analysis of the sloganizing of the prochoice movement. This is not a book for the close-minded.

Prochoice people will naturally dislike this book, but for the open-minded prochoice person looking to get an understanding of how some prolife people see the abortion debate, "Who Broke the Baby?" will be quite informative.

At first glance, these slogans hit the core fears of a woman facing an unexpected pregnancy, and feed at her most selfish intentions, that her life is more sacred than any other life. Broken down by Dr. Garton, these slogans are seen in their proper light, as fear-mongering mantras designed by people who are not concerned with her or her unborn baby.

Dr. Garton presents to women that they do have a choice, and shows them how they are being manipulated. Similarly, the media might not have had time to think about this bumper-sticker statements, but "Who Broke the Baby?" gives reporters a chance to know how they are being used.

Yes, there are a lot of issues that are complex for a mother to be to deal with. There is no denying the financial and logistical troubles she may face... but confusing her with the muddled thinking of men and women who think having childen is an insult to femininity is not the answer.

Recommended by C Everett Koop, and consistent with the theologies of both evangelicals and Catholics, Dr. Garton's book transcends denominations as she herself is part of mainline protestants, a Lutheran.

I fully recommend "Who Broke the Baby?" by Jean Staker Garton.

This is a terrific story, placed in a prospective where characters come to life that you knew existed in the lives of the main characters but never came to know until Gene Edwards brought them to life in story. It is like seeing God's plan come into fruition before your eyes. Even a small child can comprehend the awesomeness of God as it is being read to them. It brings relationships between people into view that are so natural and normal that it makes you feel you are a part of story, like a friend standing right there in the midst of all the events. Mr. Edwards carrys an anointing that most good writers can't even imagine exist.

This is Book 5 of the Chronicles of the Door. It deals with future events, mostly from the viewpoint of the angels in heaven. I really enjoyed the entire series; my only wish was that it had been longer and more in depth. This is a great finale which finally brings to light the mysteries pondered by man and angels. I strongly recommend the entire series, which begins with, appropriately, "The Beginning."

In simple language and illustrated with lovely pictures of a mother talking to her little son, children are told the story of how God made each one of us. The language is simple and the pictures help one understand God's handiwork. A nice book to read to children especially if a new baby will be joing the family.

The conversational style of the mother answering her childs questions was easy for my 4 year old to relate to. The combination of the drawn characters that the story is about and real pictures of babies in the mommy's tummy made it less like a textbook. Does not address sex or gender differences, but does address sperm and egg being needed. I ordered several in this catagory and this was by far the best one.

This book has several merits. The information is scientifically accurate, and presented at a very appropriate level for its audience. The dialogue format between mother and child fits well with how children ask about this difficult topic. God's role in the process is stated but not pushed. The first-rate photos of the developing child (by Lennart Nilson, A Child is Born), really complement the text and drawings. It's a great jumping-off point for these discussions with young children. My 3 year-old related the material to her experience when she was in utero and to her new sibling-to-be, so she clearly got the connection between the book and real life.

I had an opportunity to hear the author speak at a 'Women of God' convention earlier this year. I can't say enough about the insight I gained that day and even more so after reading both her books. A lot of what I've been hearing all my christian life I didn't clearly understand and Margaret's words served as a guide of clarity through a fog of confusion and doubt. I am still burning with inspiration and motivation from reading her last book. I can't wait for the next one.

The book discusses the value of both spirits. The spirit of light and the spirit of darkness.

I really gained insight on how each spirit could affect everything that I do in life. It changed my view point of how I approach almost every situation.

I found spiritual insight in this slim volume by Fr. Raymond E Brown, S.S. "A COMING CHRIST in ADVENT" is a collection of essays on the gospel narratives preparing for the birth of Jesus. As such, it is a commentary of the first chapters of Matthew and Luke. The subjects include the genealogy of the CHRIST, Jesus, as presented in Matthew, the three Annunciations as well as the Benedictus. The subject is given the characteristic thoroughness Fr Brown applies to his larger works. Two themes which I found intriguing are first, that the Lucan Infacy Narratives contain figures from the Hebrew Scriptures (Zechariah and Elizabeth) and Gospel figures (John, the Baptist) encountering each other in order to bridge the two periods of GOD's salvific action. The second theme which was presented in a new light for me is the role of Mary as a disciple of the CHRIST. Fr Brown writes, "In all of this Luke has anticipated a christological terminology that is appropriate to Jesus' ministry and beyond." Jesus defines 'family' in terms of accepting his gospel about the LORD (Mark 3:35; Luke 8:21). Mary's answer in the Annunciation is "Let it be done to me according to your word." Again, from Fr Brown, "The evangelist is descrbing not only one who is consenting to be the physical mother of Jesus but also and very importantly one who meets Jesus' criterion for his family of disciples -- indeed the first one." If you are interested in understanding the Gospel message in the Infancy Narratives, this book will be interesting to you.

Raymond E. Brown is best known for his large The Birth of the Messiah and the two volumes on the death of Christ. Those are readable texts aimed at a more scholarly crowd. A Coming of Christ in Advent is one of a group of slim volumes that collect his essays for magazines. In these essays he shows the same skill for scholarly work and equal skill at making it meaningful to today's Christian - not as Biblical study but as meaningful to one's life.

My favorite section in this particular volume is the study of the genealogy in Matthew's Gospel - the points regarding the women mentioned as all being "outsiders" was one of several provocative points. I'm sure other readers would pick out different highlights depending upon the conditions under which they read the book - there are many possible highlights to chose between.

I can't believe this treasure is out of print :o( It completely changed our lives - laid it all out, what the Bible says - God wants us to give control to Him, whether He chooses to give us children or not, when to give them, and how many. Showed us that it is selfish, even sinful, to tell God to stop blessing us with more children - would we ask Him to stop blessing us with good health? Or money? Then why with children, whom the Bible calls "blessings"? I will search for a copy of this out of print gem for each of our children.

Easy to read format, very thorough. This book opened up our eyes to what the Bible says about children - that they are to be considered "blessings", and gifts from God. Brought us to the realization that it wasn't our place to tell God "when" and "how many times" to bless us. Samuel Owen, my sons, #4 and #5, thank you for writing this book - without it, they might not have been born!

This is a very sweet book, but it wasn't my favorite. I guess I wasn't ready to talk about where babies come from yet, and this book mentions that the baby was in the mother's tummy. I know kids know a lot at an early age, but I just wasn't ready to explain why the mother's tummy was big. I think my daughter was incredulous that babies grow in 'tummies.'

My husband and I love to read this book to our daughter who is 6 months old (we have read it to her since she was in my belly) It is such a sweet story about a mommy bear and a baby girl bear. The story tells the baby what a blessing she is to her mommy and daddy and how God had given her to them.

Everytime I read this book I cry, it is very touching. The illustrations are fantastic. You gotta have this book!

This is one of those books that I hated to see come to an end...wonderful story from the Bible. This author has a talent for bringing the women of the Bible to life. While reading this book, the reader realizes how special a good midwife was in Egypt in the time of Pharoah. This is a story of Moses' birth and his survival. The sacrifices his mother made to give birth to him and also keep him from being murdered. Here's another example of how wise and sacrificing the women of biblical times were.
I would encourage everyone to read this novel. The writing flows, there are no unnecessary wordy descriptions. Very enjoyable as well as educational.
If you enjoyed Red Tent, Queen maker, or any of Francine Rivers' books....this is a book you do not want to miss reading, enjoying, and discussing.

Puah is a Hebrew midwife in the Land of Egypt where Pharaoh rules like a god. He has proclaimed that all male Hebrew babies are to be slain at birth. Puah is an instrument of the one true God and cannot follow such a command. The story goes on to tell of the coming of Moses in the midst of this strife.

This is a book with more than the story of Moses; it is a love story that will reach the very depths of your heart. The author, who is also a midwife, had me in the palm of her hands by the second chapter. Her characters were so real, and their emotions so strong, I am still moved by them now. This is a wonderful story that is fast moving and written with a flow that makes the pages fly by. If you enjoy this book, another similar book of equal quality is QUEENMAKER by India Edgehill. If this book gets any critical attention it should climb the charts. History and tradition provide the setting, but the compelling qualities of the book are creditable to the author. Ray has woven a very personal and intimate story. There are no cardboard characters here - no Charlton Heston behind a false beard. This story has reality, tenderness and poignancy. It is a woman's book, but one a man can read with pleasure. Historical fiction must be good fiction ahead of all else. The history should be integral to the story, the characters alive, the drama gripping. "The Midwife's Song" passes all these tests. I am excited about this book, and look forward to reading the others in this planned trilogy.

There need to be more books like this one. An important topic like prematurity needs more attention.

Dail R. Cantrell was recently nominated for a Book of the Year award for Equal to the Task, one of the best books on the subject ever written. This book is a good companion.

I thought this book was wonderful. It helps people who have never experienced life in the NICU get a glimpse of it. I have quadruplets and all 4 of my babies went through the NICU at Chidren's Hospital in Minneapolis. Dr. Ronald Hoekstra took care of my babies and he is as wonderful as the stories in this book make him sound. It is very difficult and hard to explain what life is like in the NICU and this book does a marlvous job of conveying that. I have given this book to many friends and family members to help them understand what I went through.

I loved this book. I often read and the gym on the exercise bike and my mind will wander. Not with this book! I was engrossed with the stories and tears came to my eyes often as these people of faith go through very challenging times. Although written to partially explain how the Christian faith of these parents and some of the staff helped them through their individual ordeals, it was not offensive. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the wonder of new life.
