This was a great book, as was all the Ellie's People books.
I loved this book, as I loved all the Ellie's people books. I enjoy reading books about the Amish, and this is one of the best I have ever red about the Amish.

An intriguing story.
"Rebecca" continues the Amish story which began in "Ellie". Rebecca is the daughter of Ellie and David Eash. Read about a taffy pull, a box social, and about working out as an Amish Maut [a hired girl]. And then there's the question of who to date. Her good friend Susan's brother James is interested in her. But, they are Mennonite, while Rebecca is Amish, and the church youths are only allowed to date within the church. What should Rebecca do? Read about the trials and temptations of being an Amish teenager in this exciting book.

unique!
Now HERE is a unique book. It is different than several others of it's kind. Although I'm not into mysteries, this one was great. I love the romance part of it. I think that stories where they are forced into marriage without love are interesting because they learn to love.
only faith will see her through this perilous bargain!
Oriel Banning is a paid companion to spoiled American debutante Neecy McPhail. As they travel shipboard to England to meet Neecy's fiance, Oriel has a fateful encounter with tycoon Morgan Drummond, also on his way to meet his fiance. Once they arrive in England, Oriel suddenly finds that her services are no longer needed as soon as Neecy's wedding is over. Alone with no family, friends, or money, Oriel starts trying to find work so that she can afford to return to America. Again encountering Drummond, he proposes a plan that will be of mutual benefit to both of them. Financially unable to turn down his offer, Oriel accepts his plan, which includes a year-long stay at his ancestral castle in Ireland. Once there, it becomes extremely obvious that someone is trying to frighten and maybe even kill Oriel. Is it the unfriendly housekeeper Mrs. Nesbit? Or perhaps her maid Molly, who loves to indulge in the village gossip? It could even be the ghost of Shaleen O'Connor itself, coming back to haunt the castle and rid it of its present occupants. As Oriel struggles with the frightening reality that someone does not want her around, Morgan becomes more and more distant and unfriendly. Even Oriel's new friends, the Wicklows and poet Bryan Moore, no longer seem as friendly as they were. Although Oriel realizes that someone is trying to scare her away, she knows that she must stay in Ireland because she has made a perilous bargain. This book is a must-read for people who like mysteries and stories of faith that carries one through difficult times.

The first two pages are okay?
This book is a good read if you are in the mood for something light, easy to read, and POINTLESS! It is a simple book, with not much detail, elaboration, or as previously mentioned PLOT! It is interesting to read about the amish, but that is about the only interesting thing about it!...
Good Christian Read for my 8 year old
My daughter picked up Ellie while on a vacation in Amish country. We are now on our third book in the series and she is "hooked". She loves to imagine what is like to be living in such a different culture, and yet so near where we live. Better yet, this series provides a good story line, good information about the Amish, respectful of their way of life, with a Christian perspective that keeps the stories uplifting and positive, but not prissy.
This first book is about Ellie's growing up years (brief as they seem to be) and her experiences with her "Englisher" friend at the local elementary school. It is very well done and interesting, with a vocabulary that my daughter enjoys.
We heartily recommend this book.
Truly Wonderful
Ellie is a charming and captivating story of a young girl learning and experiencing the ways of the amish. Slow-paced, the book is perfect for a comfortable day of relaxation. Though you had better schedule a whole day because you won't be able to put this book down. I found myself falling in love with Ellie and her simple family. I have read and re-read all the books in the series, and I must say, the were truly a comfort and a joy.

The book was okay
Sarah I would give this book 3 stars. I did not like this book a whole lot, but I can't say I hated it. I thought it was interesting to read about the Amish ways of like, but I personally prefer books with action. This book, on the other hand, was a simple story about a girl whose mother died and she had to learn to live with it. I have never read a book about an Amish family before, so it was kind of a new experience. I would say that if you like reading biographies and autobiographies, this book is for you. Event though this book wasn't my favorite, I felt the author wrote the book with lots of description words and used good transitions. The actual story wasn't bad, just lacking some things I usually like in books I read. One of the things it lacked was that, looking back, it is hard to find where the actual climax was. Yes, there were some exciting parts, like when their house caught fire but I still didn't find myself saying ,"Yep, that part was so action packed I couldn't put the book down." In all, if you like books with lots of heart stopping events, I'm afraid this one isn't for you. I you like to sit down to a good book about a girl growing up in an Amish community, I would recommend this book for you.
Sarah - The story of a young Amish girl
The best book since "Chocolate Fever". The story is about a little Amish girl whose mother died of an illness and whose father married her Maut, the hired girl. She said she is going to be forever eleven and when is seventeen she becomes a hired girl herself. It is the best book I have ever read. Review by, Chanel Dean age 9
