Excellent, excellent, excellent
I like western stories and have read most of the Louis L'Amour books I have come across, as well as most of the Elmore Leonard westerns. The three novellas in this book are easily as good as anything else I've read. The characters are well described and interesting, not the usual cardboard cut-outs found in western novels.

Unfortunately, most of the other Frank Bonham books are currently out of print. I can't wait to see if everything he writes is this good.

thought provoking book...
I read this book many years ago, and while I'm not certain that as a 12-year-old I fully grasped it, it was a fun read, and it has stayed with me since. I'm fascinated to seee that this has been the case with others as well. Having read several of Mr. Bonham's urban-set tales beforehand, this bit of action/science-fiction(?) came as a real curveball, though many of his stories are parables. He tells his moral tales so well that, much like an episode of "Fat Albert", you don't realize you've been taught a lesson until it's all done. Anyway, every time a another piece of vacant land gets paved over in my beloved (insert your state here), I think about this book and wonder how much closer the future depicted herein is inching.

Echoing others...
I first read this book when I was 11 and I have to echo some others when I say I loved it but perhaps didn't grasp all of it at the time. I recently tracked down a used copy and I am re-reading it right now. I think it is great and would make a great movie, perhaps on the Sci-Fi channel. Does anyone know if this has been made into a movie? Parts of the book may be dated now, but as far as characters and story-telling I think it still holds up.

I read this book so long ago..
And I still remember it today. This is a wonderful science fiction book and worth reading if you can find a copy-I'm just sorry that it's out of print because it was a wonderful story that has stuck with me most of my life.

Good, but not as good as Missing Person's League
This book was enjoyable. The characters didn't excite me as much as The Missing Person's League.

Both books have similar themes. In this book, lives have been extended. People get old and bored. They don't have anything to live for. Nor are there resources left for them.

A boy who was cryogenically frozen is re-animated because his memory contains the forever formula - a better life extension drug that promises to keep people healthier longer.

A group of people don't want this formula released. What will happen?

An enjoyable tale with memorable imagery.
I first read this book (along with several others by the author) back when I was in middle-school, and for years the images of his desciptions of futuristic technology have stuck with me.I've found it intertesting in the years since how many other books (and movies too) have "borrowed" key elements from this author's works.

Maybe he has a lot more fans out there than we realize. It's a shame this book is out of print...that should be rectified!

This book is an excellent sci-fi story for young readers.
Having read this book several times over the course of my late chilhood/early teenage years, I have to give it a high rating. It is a work of sci-fi suspense in which a teenage boy wakes up in "the future" and has to decide for himself how to use valuable information buried deep within his subconscious. His mind contains a "forever formula" that will guarantee immortality for humanity, and he must navigate both friends and foes in a strange culture in order to decide who he can trust to access this valuable information.

For those interested in the sci-fi aspects, this book contains interesting descriptions of technology (everyday and otherwise) in "the future". I particularly liked the fact that the author does not sugar-coat the future; among the characters there are those who are "morally challenged" in some ways, and one character's description of marriage in "the future" is not the idyllic, lifelong love that we often describe it as today.

Overall, I find this to be a very interesting book - and my favorite choice for car trips. There are plenty of twists and turns in the plot to keep any reader entertained. I am sorry to find that it is out of print.

Durango Street
Have you ever been so scared of where you lived? Well that is how Rufus Henry and his family felt. Durango Street sounded like a realistic fiction book. It is a story about a teenager named Rufus Henry who spent time in work camp for grand theft auto. His troubles begin when he is released. All he wants to do is keep a steady job and obey the laws. He finds the difficult because of all the crime and gang activity going on around his neighborhood.

If I had to rate this book from 1 to 10 I would probably give it a 9 because I really enjoyed reading this book, and I liked these characters. This book is probably for a 14 year-old boy or girl. You would have to like a serious type of book, because the book has a really good plot. The book kept my interest although there were some parts that were sloe and boring, because the author was to non-specific with the characters. Durango Street was not hard to concentrate because the story could really happen to kids our ages. I did not really connect to the characters because they did not match me that good, but I liked them. I really enjoyed reading this book because I enjoy reading these types of books.

Durango Street by Andrew
Durango Street is a teen novel that a lot of kids should read because it teaches you what not to do during your teen years. Frank Bonham wrote a novel about Rufus Hennry. Rufus was a teen that was brought to a work camp for grand theft auto and when he gets out, his parole officer tells him that he can't join any gangs or else he will have to go back to work camp, but he does.
Rufus attitude changed based on who he is with; this sometimes causes him to make unwise and thoughtless choices, such as rejoining a gang. There are many examples of unwise decisions Rufus makes, such as joining gangs and hurting people. Both of those decisions affect his parole officer and his family. He also steals from stores and lies too much. These actions affect his parole officer and his family.
I liked Durango Street because there was a lot of fighting and adventure. It also left you thinking about what was going to happen in the next chapter. I think most teens would like this book because of all the adventure that happens. I recommend this book to most teens. It's a great book and I really liked it.

GREAT BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Durango Street is a story about about a boy named Rufus facing gang and life struggles. Rufus Henry is a boy with a lot of potential, but he has gotten himself into the wrong place with the wrong people. The book starts out with Rufus in work camp after being charged with grand theft auto. But when he is released from camp, there is only one place for him to go, back to Durango Street. Immediately after Rufus arrives at his home he runs into trouble with the gang called the Gassers. Before long the Gassers are after him and Rufus finds he has no chioce but to join the gang the Moors. With the Moors behind him, Rufus is staying alive and safe for a while. But when the Gassers catch up with the Moors, trouble and "war" breaks out. Rufus learns that this lifestyle is not the way to live his life, and does his best to end the "war". He faces many life and death situations, but he always seems to come out clean. Rufus learned a lot from this experience and eventually understands that his life is not a dead end, but a life with a great future. THIS BOOK is AWESOME!

I thought this book was really cool
This book was about a girl and her family who moved to France to their new apartment. There was one problem though, it wasn't finished. Suzanne a french girl with them suggested a castle that was ran by the French goverment and was closed a while ago. They were all excited until Suzanne told them why it was closed. It was closed because of the ghosts that have haunted the castle for a long time. Read this book to find out all the troubles and bad things that have been happening since they got to the castle.

Another excellent book out of print
It's so unfortunate that all the books I so loved as a child are out of print. `A Dream of Ghosts', along with `Jane-Emily' and `To Nowhere and Back', are all excellent reads that let young readers venture into the supernatural without getting too scared off. I truly wish the publishers of these books would do children a favor and re-publish what should have been classics.

good for young readers
Viva Chicano is a good book for young readers. In fact, it is a surprisingly good read for adult readers as well. It is not unlike some of the 'outsiders' series books by S.E. Hinton.

Although I am not of hispanic descent, I feel that Bonham handles the subject of gangs, delinquency, and hispanic-americans in the inner city in a realistic but sensitive manner. I would also like to think that it succeeds in its intent to be inspirational material for hispanic teens.
