Since reading When Going Through Hell...Don't Stop I have put its coping strategies to use in helping a good friend recover from depression and anxiety. So far, there has been definite improvement in his depression. Everyone involved is thankful for Mr. Bloch's sound words of advice. This book has a wellspring of information to offer for anyone who is suffering from depression or their friends and caregivers.

It offers a compelling story of one person's valiant struggle against a life-threatening depressive illness as well as a comprehensive self-help manual on treating depression. What I liked most is that the book is so accessible. It lays out practical coping strategies that a person suffering from depression or their caregiver can use on a daily basis. I also like that the author was healed by spiritual intervention, showing that alternatives do exist when drugs don't work. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with depression or anxiety, or to anyone who wants to give a loved one with a depressive disorder the gift of hope.

I shopped and shopped for a book that would unravel the mysteries of astrology, and this book was my discovery! I've told all my friends about it, and they are now on their own quests for personal transformation.Do yourself a favor and use this book to learn the basics before trying to read some of the more advanced texts, It has a great overview of every planet, asteroid, sign, house, and aspect, and you'll learn how to identify and read them all like a pro.

Before I read this book, I had no real knowledge of Astrology. I thought it was just "Sun-signs" and did not have a clue about the rest. This book is truly beautiful and inspirational. Drawing upon a wide variety of sources, from Lao Tsu to Albert Camus, the author offers poetic and inspiring quotes and verses to remind us that we are not alone, and that the human spirit has the power and strength to persevere. The book is neither sappy nor saccharine, as some of these books tend to be. The poetic selections are uplifting, hopeful, with a touch of melancholy. An example of one of the quotes: "In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer." (Albert Camus)

This is a well researched book on many topics closest to the human heart and the human experience. It gives great insight into pain and facilitates healing. The poems are not only from traditional wonderful English fare of Shakespeare, Keats and the Bible but also includes unique inspirational writings translated from other languages. This makes it a uniquely beautiful work.

This book offers one more self-empowering tool for children and teens to cope with life's angst and heal hurts. Self-talk empowers children to handle life with confidence and raise their self-esteem. Children have a tool to check in on their feelings and become cognitively aware of what they are telling themselves 'in the moment.' Changing negative self-talk to positive self-talk is where profound changes begin. Douglas Bloch's book is a must read for parents and those in the helping professions.

I have been referring to this book for many years now. Due to it's perferct affirmations for all types of trials we are faced with in this life, it has helped me through some of the toughest times in my life. When ever I need an uplifting word or need some good advice, this book has been there to compfort me, just like a good and dear friend. All I can say is: Thank The Divine for this helpful friend...

I have struggled with depression since I was a young child, and occasionally I go into deeper depressions. My depression has very clear roots and over time I have been able to work through the source of the problem. Sometimes when the depression gets too deep I am unable to take care of myself in the ways that I need to get better. Although medication has helped me in the past I disliked the side effects and for many reasons it is impractical for me to be on medication long term.

This book is the best workbook on healing from depression that I have found. The first section of the book is a memoir of the author's incredible journey to recovery from depression (he did not respond well to meds). The second half of the book is a weekly structure of recovering from depression that addresses self-care, thoughts, self esteem, spirituality, creating a support system of friends and health care providers, and finding pleasure in life. By the second or third week I was feeling well enough and motivated to make all the changes that I needed, but the structure helped me when I was too low to make the changes I needed to make.

In addition to this he includes great information about common nutritional deficiencies that cause depression and supplements and herbs that work as antidepressants.

Douglas Bloch has written a clear, thorough and wonderful book. Anyone dealing with depression or who knows someone who is will benefit greatly from the presence of this book. Written with heart and knowledge, this is truly a gem.

I REALLY liked this book EXCEPT for the fact that the information on the minor asteroids was disappointingly skimpy. The author provided an excellent amount of information about the major asteroids, and so it was surprising to see how little information was given on the minor asteroids. If the author did not have enough information yet about the minor asteroids, I would rather she had left out the "junk" and had a thinner (and less expensive) volume. By "junk", I'm referring to the pages and pages of celebrities' asteroid placements. The endless lists about celebrities added nothing to the reader's enlightenment on the subject, and I don't share our culture's fascination with celebrities. If the filler was the publisher's decision - perhaps to leave the opportunity for another book (sale), then I am very disappointed in that publisher. Publishers of astrology books usually give fair value for the price of their books. Had I seen the book (in a book store), I would have been conflicted about buying it. The topic is new and fascinating, but there is just too much filler. As it now stands, the book is really worth about $13 or $14 at most. If the author were to remove the filler and add the same quality of information about the minor asteroids as she has for the major asteroids, the book would be worth the current price.

How this book ever got out of print for a minute I do not know. All students of astrology need Demetra in their bookshelf and on their desk. An understanding of the asteroid goddesses is a way to add an entire new dimension to understanding the natal and other charts. Demetra understands the ladies in myth, history, and in the psyche, and she details, amazingly well, their meaning in the chart.

5 stars except that I wish the other asteroids were included ... The four main goddesses are here and understanding them is enough of a project for awhile ... but I wish we'd gotten the entire sisterhood ... probably they are around here somewhere ...

The great thing Demetra has done is add the presence of feminine values and concerns to the horoscope. Supporting the Moon, the asteroid goddesses have as their interest, relationship, hearth, romance, adventure, protection, nurture. No natal chart should be without them.

I loved this book. I am someone who believes the asteroids have a fine tuning significance on the overall chart, and this book does a splendid job of explaining the archetypes behind them. I think the brevity of the minor asteroids goes along with the significance you should place on a chart. Psyche is not going to be as profound as Saturn for most people, Demetra George did a great job covering the material in a clear, concise way. Hopefully, she will write more good stuff for us to read and learn from.

It was very helpful, it opened my eyes to believe in your inner voice. I've always second guessed my inner voice, this made me more aware and helped me make wiser decisions that came from the heart and sole.
