Definitely not the movie
So, having seen the Disney movie Bedknobs and Broomsticks, you know the whole story, right? Wrong! Being a fan of that movie, I picked up this book expecting some minor discrepancies, but was amazed to find a story that had practically nothing in common with the movie.

This is the story of Carey, Charles and Paul Wilson who, while staying with their aunt in Bedfordshire, suddenly discover that a neighbor, Miss Price is a witch! Not your stereotypical witch, Miss Price is a prim and proper lady who is willing to buy the children's silence with the gift of a magic bed knob that will allow the children to travel through space and time. Seeking to visit their mother, the children find themselves scooped up by the London police. Next, Miss Price takes them to an isolated tropical island, only to discover that cannibals inhabit the island. Their final adventure takes them to Restoration England, where they meet a forlorn (and inept) necromancer, Emelius Jones.

This story (actually two books combined into one) is quite charming. In a gentle and freewheeling fashion, Mary Norton draws the reader along on a fantastic adventure. This book is just right for the young reader, with a few nice illustrations, and a wonderful storyline.

Bedknob and Broomstick
Our class enjoyed hearing our teacher read this story. She thought we might like it because we enjoyed "Harry Potter" last year. We liked it when the children travelled back into the past. It was good when Miss Price and Emelius fell in love and travelled back to Emelius's time

Classic Tale of Magic and Adventure
I first read this book as a child, and it was one that I read again and again. Using a magical bedknob, the children in this story travel through time and space to ancient England, a desert island and more. I just bought this for my nine year old niece, who is a "Harry Potter" fan, but too young for most of the scarier titles that are sometimes suggested for fans of the series. Like all of the author's books, this one is exciting, but not scary, and is clearly the product of a gentler time.

an important book for parents to discuss with their children
I read this book many years ago and I still have a copy on my shelf. I think all parents who have strong feelings about nuclear disarmament should read this to their children and use it as a jumping off point to discuss nuclear weapons, war, and the impact that softspoken leaders like Mahama Ghandi and little Georgie (the book's main character) can have when our nations' leaders let fear prevail over morality. I also believe it reminds those who seek to use the flag as a symbol of blind patriotism and allegiance to American military actions that pacifists can be patriots, too. There is so much to carry away from this simple, but elegantly written book that an elementary or junior high school student can understand and appreciate... it certainly speaks to many of the issues that are being debated in the current political climate.

GREAT!
I just got this book out of the library, and it was GREAT! I thought it looked dumb, but when I picked it up, I couldn't stop reading. Georgie leads the march and they walk to washington, DC. Preisident Toby isn't real, but the author makes him sound so real! My favorite characthers are Georgie and Weezie. To bad this book is out of print.

Still sticks in my head after 15 years!
I read this book when I was a kid! And it still sticks with me after all these years. All I remember is this chick walks to washington dc. Pretty cool though. I'd buy it if I were you. Too bad it's out of print.

A treasured board book classic
Of all the smallest-size board books for little ones, this is our family's favorite. For very young children, this book, with its adorable illustrations, holds their attention as it takes them through a tour of a day in the life of a toddler. It is an ideal book for bedtime, ending with "...these are my kisses, and this is goodnight." As each of my six younger siblings have started their own families, I have enclosed this little gem with every baby gift. Sadly, it appears to be out of print -- hopefully, only temporarily.

OUR FAVORITE FOR YEARS!
We have had this book since my 13 yr. old was a baby. It then went through my now 12 yr. old son and my now 9 yr. old daughter. I now have a 19 month old son and am enjoying it with him. It's perfect for learning about themselves("these are my eyes"), for cuddling("these are my kisses") and for bedtime("and this is good night"). I have been looking for another copy of this book since my last baby was born because a page got ripped. It is now out of print. Where can we get another one?!?!?! WE LOVE THIS BOOK!

Perfect book for babies!
This little book was a favourite with both our babies. The illustrations are both gentle and relevant, and really catch on with little ones!

15 years down the road
I read this book, and reread it, and reread it (the binding came apart eventually) when I was a small child, and now I'm looking for a copy so I can read it again. :) I must say it taught a 5-year-old how to understand a cat and befriend a cat better than any parental lecture did.

Purr-fect book!
Cat Walk is a wonderful book. It's about a barn cat who wants to have a name but he needs a human to give him a name, so he has to be a pet. He goes through a lot of names and tries to find the right name for himself. I think this book was exciting, funny, and sometimes sad. I also like this book because it has a lot of animals and I like animals more than anything in the whole world!

It was a great book because.....
It was exciting, funny and sort of sad. I also liked the book because it had cats and dogs and those are my favorite animals.

I Like to Be Little

Old fashioned charm
This book is extremely warm, cozy, and charming. The relationship that the little girl shares with her mother is precious, and of a nature that harkens back to the first half of the 20th Century. Frankly, I miss it. The story is basically a converation between mother and daughter, a very respectful and sincere communication, whereby the little girl talks about simple joys that children share with no one else. The mother listens intently and encourages her child in conversation. These types of stories are so real, so without pretense, and very basic, slice-of-life in nature; unfortunately, they're somewhat hard to find!! The illustrations are, again, slice-of-life, nothing fantastic or overly imaginative, adding to the straightforward, wholesomeness of the story. Charlotte Z. seems to specialize in books about mothers and daughters. I was raised on her stories and I'm glad they're still in print so that I can share with my daughter!

The Magic of Being Little Shines Through
Another classic children's story, written by one of the most loved and respected children's authors of all time. This story is simple, sweet, and easily understood by the youngest of children. It tells about a young girl who just loves being little because of all the things she can do. The endearing text revolves around the girl's view of her world and how she is lucky because she is small enough to sit under the dining room table, jump in piles of autumn leaves, and skip when she feels joy. A timeless classic that will warm your heart again and again~~!

The joy of mothering your daughter
This is one of those rare books that comes into your heart and helps it to sing about the joys of life. While it is considered a "children's book", it is in fact a story that is written for children but is really better savored by mother and daughter together.

After all, can a child truly appreciate the joy of being little without the contrast of what it is like to be big? My daughter and I cuddle together and she reads this book to me over and over. As a gift, it is without equal to any new mother of a little girl. Liking to be little is all about liking how it all turns out.

my favorite children's book
I adore this book. With wonderfully subtle grace, the author teaches about friendship and, more importantly, the personality differences of friends -without judgement. The free spirited child is admired but the shy, timid child also prevails. An exceptional choice for a "second child" who may be overshadowed by the "perfect" sibling.

Fun-filled fiction
The Finch family was in desparate straits. They had to find a house to rent in the town of Ashfield. Finally they were given the only available house, along with a warning: it had a very unusual furnace - a small volcano. This book describes the lengths that the family must go to in order to keep their "furnace" a secret to their neighbors. The climax comes when the volcano starts to grow larger! The author of this book has an unbelievable imagination. My brother and sisters and I have read this book many times. We thoroughly enjoy it.

This book should be back in print!
I was a big fan of the Diamond in the Window, and this book was almost as good. The idea of magic portals leading to new worlds was as normal to me as breakfast, lunch and dinner. This book affected my vision of the world, and helped me find a little bit of magic in simple places like doorways and hedges. Why, oh, why is it out of print, along with the Astonishing Stereoscope? When will the publishers hear the pleas of the thousands of people out there who read (and loved) these books as kids and want to read them to their own kids?

i wish this book were back in print!!
this book was one i read as a young boy in ohio. i checked it out from the bookmobile, and i have never forgotten it. the sci-fi style was vaguely like l'engle, which i read much later, but i have never stopped looking for a copy. amazon could not find me a copy, but i refuse to give up hope. i strongly suggest it for any child who finds himself even a little ahead of his classmates in school. it reminds us we are not alone, though we may be geniuses and geeks.

One of my favorite books
This book had a great influence on me as a child. I found it in a library and read it to my own children. If it was back in print, I'd buy it in a second.

I highly recommend it.

Read this book,it's great!
Eleanor and Edward were two normal children. They were raised by their aunt and uncle. One day when they were playing outside, Eleanor noticed a window made from stained glass that she had never seen before. It was very beautiful. Pink roses covered it, with shiny green leaves and a background of blue zigzagging lines. She knew that she would have remembered if she had ever looked out of that window before. Eleanor and Edward decided to look for the beautiful window. They looked everywhere inside their house. When all of a sudden they found a trap door on the ceiling. They pulled a string from the ceiling and out slid some steps. They stepped up to the room. It was a small room with two beds. The window was in between the two beds.It was Ned and Noras room. Their aunt told them that Ned and Nora had been missing for years. They had to find them. Every night that they spend in Ned and Nora's room they have dreams that take them to a magical world. In the magical world they find clues to rescue Ned and Nora. Every dream gets them a step closer to Ned and Nora.

I think this book is good to read for all ages. I think the author did a good job writing this book because I could understand every sentence in the book. When you read this book it makes you fell like you are not only reading the book but you are a character in the book, experiencing all the events in the book. If you like mysterious and funny stories, this book is for you.

My girlhood favorite, ordering now for my son!
Diamond in the Window shaped my love for mystery, adventure, dreams and family bonds which cross time and the physical world. Diamond in the Window is the beloved long lost book of my childhood which I am now ordering to share with my five year old son. He can write his own review as soon as we receive and read the book. Amazon, I can't believe you had this one

An timeless favorite
As a child, I checked this book out of my neighborhood library time after time. When in my twenties, I was determined to find the book again. Though I'd forgotten the exact title and author's name, I returned to that same library, found the librarian I remembered from my childhood, and she recalled the title and author. Now, at the ripe old age of 43, I read "The Diamond in the Window" at least once every year, have given copies as gifts and will continue to read this favorite as long as I'm able. I also had the honor of meeting the author and having her autograph a copy for my daughter, who also loves the book.

A Book Every Young Girl - And Boy - Should Have!
Mud Pies and Other Recipes is one of the most imaginative, enchanting, and FUN books that I have ever laid eyes on. All the magic of doll tea parties, forest outings, and mud pies is incorporated within the pages of this quaint little book.

In a most serious manner, Ms. Winslow will teach your little girls how to easily and properly prepare delicious doll-sized appetizers, soups, salads & sandwiches, main dishes, pastries & desserts, and beverages, using ingredients found in your own backyard. There are even suggested menu plans included within the last few pages of the book! And the simple beauty of Erik Blegvad's charming ink drawings depicting girls - and boys - preparing the foods only adds to the overall effect this book will bring.

Since my sister received this book several years ago, the memories that have revolved around its contents are numberless. Our mother and even my younger brother have joined us in the fun and togetherness that something as simple as mud and water can bring. I would recommend this to all mothers with young children, and highly suggest buying two copies if you wish for the book to remain bound together and clean for long. Perhaps if there were more books like this, fewer young adults would resort to their video game systems for entertainment rather than spend time out-of-doors.

An Imagination Booster
The day I recieved this book, I walked right into my daughter's room to read it to her. The fact that it is written with a very serious air made her laugh all the more. (I recommend a British accent.) I explained to her that this recipe book was very special because I always made very similar meals for my dolls as a child and had always felt they were my exclusive ideas. I could see her eyes glowing with the magic of it all and we planned a dolly picnic for the morning. When I went to wake her up the next day, I noticed several little bears sitting around teacups full of some indistinguishable slop. She said, "I took your advice and made them some special tea so they could sleep. I used water, crumpled paper and perfume. And Mama, they LOVED IT!" For parents who want to make their children's childhood as full of fantasy and dreams as possible, this book is a lovely imagination booster.

Still enchanting after 30 years
This was my favorite book while I was growing up. I would check this out from the Grand Prairie Public Library and head to the backyard with book in hand. Using pots and pans and cans and whatever I could scrounge, I would assemble the recipes, Sand Torte being a favorite. Although this was written for children, the magic still holds. Written in easy to read and imagination engaging language, this inspires the reader to try the recepies and to let their imagination soar. Delightful ink illustrations and witty writing makes this enjoyable reading into adulthood....a bonus, I found my new copy in the cookbook section of my local bookstore. A classic for the child in all of us.
