when there is no doctor, this book is.
many people came to my orthomolecular-clinic just to rejuvenate because they feel weak and do have some mild allergy symptoms. this book is going to show you the reader a special diet that specificaly was chosen with a very selective nutritious-hypoallergenic foods that as it sounds,-was made to give you a boost/rejuvenation,while trying not to give you allergic foods that could offend your immune system. the strategy is explained in details, and a very important section on immune system mechanism in the liver is also explained in a very interesting/yet simple to understand, and a nutritional supplements along with it.the book is very unique at this topic and is understandable to anyone. i recommanded as a proffesional and as a book reader. dont mis this book, buy it today.

This book helped me with my health
I really liked this book. I read a lot of health books and this was one of the best in giving me thing to do to improve my health that really worked.

Science Based nutrition program for antiaging
There are many "antiaging" books around but this book I found to be one of the best. It is a good balance of recent science into what accelerates our aging process and what to do about it in a practical program of personalized nutrition. The book is very technical at times, but I found it fascinating to see how personalized diet and nutrient intervention can work at the physiological level to help improve health.

the best book on the subject!
this book is simply the best on the subject, and it shows how proper nutrition with suplements can control genetic diseases.in the past ,the world of medicine was sure that there is nothing to do with genetic-diseases,but no more!.this book explains these mecanisms in a realy wonderful way.you will have a better understanding on genetics wether you are an unhealthy person or a therapist of any kind(especialy natural-healer).we are not changing our genes,we are only give them a better nutrition in order to make them express themselves in the best healthy way.this book is highly recommanded!.

A book that helped
Too often health books fail to deliver anything other than conjecture and unsubstantiated claims. This is one book on my health that made sense and gave me the tools to make rationale decisions about my health future. I liked the way the book took complicated scientific issues and made them accessible to me years before my doctor would understand them. I recommend this book for anyone wanting the latest in health research that can be applied to their own lives.

21st Century Medicine and Nutrition
The focus on this book is to bring the latest research on how to create from a person's genetic template the best health outcomes as they age using personalized nutrition and lifestyle tailoring. The book is science-based from both the clinical research experiences of the author in the Functional Medicine Research Center and from the hundreds of scientific studies from other researchers cited in the extensive bibliography. This is a "how to" book as much as a description of when, why and where medicine will be changing to become "personalized medicine" in the 21st century.

We all need to learn more about enzymes
We can all use help in understanding enzymes. They control every aspect of our body from the digestion of our foods to the loss of our hair. For years i have been taking food enzymes with my meals. I really feel like they are helping me.

This book claims that the older we get, the less enzymes our body manufactures. This being said, i feel like we need to help our body with this problem by taking supplements.

There is is talk that enzymes might prevent cancer since they help us better handle our foods. There still needs to be more research on cancer, to determine what role enzymes play in the prevention of it.

I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.

Digestive Wellness

Authors: Elizabeth Lipski, Susan Davis, and Jeffrey S. Bland

Must read
This book reads like a gripping novel. Logical explaination is followed by statistical proof, showing the hazards of our modern diet. Chapter 3's Voyage through the Digestive System is interesting, undertandable and a compulsive read. Problem identification and theraupic solutions are simple, and again very logical. I would recommend this book for anybody working in the health profession especially natural therapists. It is also very understandable for the layperson with little prior knowledge of how the digestive system works.

Digestion is the Question
For health professionals and lay people alike, this book presents a clear and useful description of the digestive process and its fundamental importance in health. Many of us do not want to know about this vital system, or else we take it for granted. Lipski does a superb job of helping the reader learn, heal and prevent further problems regarding digestion. If you've ever had the common sense notion that poor digestion needs to be fixed before a healthy diet or supplements will do much good, this book is for you. If you've never had such a thought and you get totally bloated after meals, you might want to check it out as well. A thoughtful and easy read!

Digestive Wellness, Updated Second Edition
Not only is the list of difficulties caused by poor digestion lengthy, it includes many health problems that people don't immediately associate with their digestive process. Most people know that bad breath, indigestion, hiatal hernias, and Crohn's Disease are related to what happens in the digestive tract. Clinical nutritionist Elizabeth Lipski, M.S., C.C.N., also includes arthritis, autism, fibromyalgia, psoriasis, and schizophrenia in the list of digestion-related ailments.

Lipski cites all the latest research and studies on digestive disorders and therapies in her new book, Digestive Wellness, Updated Second Edition.

Digestion begins in the mouth and continues through the stomach and intestines to the colon. Each organ has an important role to play in helping the body break down foods so that their nutrients can be absorbed. Lipski says that "most of us don't think much about digestion unless it isn't working well," adding that "many people with chronic digestive problems continue to eat poorly, never realizing that their food choices are causing their ill health."

She starts with an exploration of the causes of digestive illness, which is often related to lifestyle choices. She then describes how a healthy digestive system works, and explains where and how the process can get out of balance. Lipski also includes information on how to pinpoint the source of your particular digestive disorder and provides recommendations and therapies for restoring wellness.

She emphasizes that each person has different biochemistry, and that what works for one will not work for another. Although health professionals can order lab tests (and she explains these tests fully), healing usually involves modifying individual eating habits. Accordingly, Lipski devotes one section to self-care strategies, with the intent of exposing readers to "more plans, new ideas, and the tools to be your own health expert."

She ends with a resource list of nutrition experts, health professionals, laboratories, and suggested reading.

Lipski says that Digestive Wellness "is about taking control of your lifestyle to increase your chances of getting healthier and more vibrant each year." It's an excellent resource for everyone suffering from any kind of digestive disorder and those who care about them.

Good information -- the 20 Days are too complex
The book sounds great and the ideas are sound. But the menu for the 20 days is presented prior to the informational chapters on how to tailor the program for your particular needs. There is no generic guide for the development of the meals -- you can sort of intuit the overall structure. This is a real problem for anyone who won't be staying at home for the full 20 days. The menus are complex for individuals on the go, and there are no suggestions for how to handle a business night out.

But the overall concept is valid and I am enjoying better health by following the main guidelines.

For health practitioners and those with fatigue
The diet is complex, both in planning, bying ingredients, and cooking. It is a part-time job you commit to for three weeks. However, if you suffer from long-term bad health and fatigue and have been shoved throughout the system and back again, it is well worth trying out the diet and the recommended antioxidant supplements. It certainly helped me. The diet is only half the book, and I strongly recommend the research part to any health practitioner or therapist. It will bring convincing enlightment, without preaching any new age stuff, and give you a new view on what health is. The psychological aspect has made its way to the institutions in psychosomatic disorders, but detoxification remains and is as important to stressed out persons. How I wish I met a physicians who had applied to these findings when I was burned out, and gotten me off pain killers and towards recovery years ago...

I loved this book
Finally a nutrition and health book that didn't seem to have an axe to grind. Rather I found Dr. Bland's book to have sensible, well balanced and science-based information that I can use to improve my health. I really liked the questionnaires in the book that helped me to personalize my own program from the information provided.

This Book is a must read!!
There are some who think that heredity is the #1 reason for cancer, but this book clearly explains that diet is the #1 reason because how can DNA be strong without good nutrition? How can new cells be buildt without the life giving force of vitamins and trace minerals? What made cells weak and toxic in the first place?, we hand down our diet from generation to generation!! What is heredity with cellular integrity? I cannot see how this book dosen't become a million dollar seller! I recommend this book highly.....Juice Power!!

Juicing for Life-A Review by Joseph S. Maresca CPA,CISA
This work is a comprehensive guide on the nutritional dimensions
of various food groups; such as alkaline and acidic. The author
provides very detailed recommendations relative to the
anti-inflammatory vitamins and nutrients which are necessary
to prevent and manage rheumatological diseases and processes.
The author explains how to make juice preparations with widely-
known anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory components.
Such preparations include Vit. C, Vit E, Cu., Bromelain
and Superoxide dismutase to mention just a few.Back pain
and tenderness may be managed with reduction of animal fats
in the diet, the addition of fish and particularly Omega-3
fatty oils, avoidance of coffee and cleansing diets.
There is an interesting protocol for osteoporosis which
consists of kale, parsley, apples and carrots in a juicing
cocktail. In addition, the author identifies Vit. C, E,
Selenium, Ca., Potassium and chromium as nutrients which might
help to implement a cancer protocol.Lastly, the author very
studiously reviews sample diets and nutrients for a plurality
of chronic disease processes that may or may not respond well
to conventional therapies. This book is a worthy investment
for any person willing to make the commitment of time and
sacrifice to implement the protocols in the interest of
maintaining good general health far into the future.

Outstanding
This book is informative and very useful. Its an obvious fact that fresh fruits and vegetables play a huge factor in our wellbeing and general health, they keep all kinds of ailments and diseases at bay. Cancer has everything to do with diet - it has been widely proven that people with the disease that had a rich diet of fruit and vegetables, actually went into recession. Heredity only plays a small part - there is no guarantee that you get the disease. This book is not meant to cure anything - simply supplements your diet with vital nutrients needed to keep healthy and build a strong immune system. I love it and highly recommend it to anyone.

Good Overview, Needs Updating and More Prescriptive Info
This short pamphlet does an excellent job explaining the physiology of the gastrointestinal tract and how natural foods can help detox and restore proper flora in the intestines in terms an intelligent layperson can understand. Nice reference to scientific studies and has a good bibliography.

Lacks information on Chron's Disease and whether the natural methods for detoxification can help reduce symptoms.

Needs to be updated with recent progress and research as well as provide references to dietary programs (with solid scientific studies) that work.
